    Thank you so much! This is a technique that actually works! Many other tutorials on outlining text in Procreate have lost me and/or confused me. This is easy to follow and has left me with the desired effects I need. Thanks again!

    if your edges are looking really jagged and pixely you can feather your selection just the slightest bit as a bit of faux anti-aliasing and get things looking smoother

      @@letteringdaily While in the selection menu on the bottom bar in the middle there is a "feather" button (its a solid circle surrounded by a dashed line circle). Clicking it will bring up the slider to soften the edges of the selection.

    At step 5 with automotic I had selected color fill and got this effect.
    Otherwise I was not able to do step 5.
    Any suggestions

      Try to turn off the color fill option. Does that work?

    Thank you for the great tutorial. I can’t get from step 5 to step 6 though🥺I can’t use a brush to colour the outline while in selection mode. When I opened a new layer, it just went out from the selection mode. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks🙂

      Hey Windy, sorry about that! Here is one potential solution. When you are in the selection mode, is the color fill option enabled (down in the bar)? If so, would you mind turning it off and trying once again? Let me know :)

    Hi, I’m a newbie, but I was just wondering, why not just use or create an outlined brush, or outlined 3D brush? Do you get a different or better effect doing it this way? Thanks so much!

      Hey Lara, thanks for the question. That's a good alternative for sure. However, for me, it's better to create a clean lettering piece and then add the outline to it. For some, it might be better to do it right away. This method is also not just for lettering. Also for illustrations where having the outline coming from both sides isn't ideal. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it, it's just a matter of personal preferences. I thought this method was cool so I decided to share it :D

      Hey Grace, when you have the automatic selection on, make sure the color fill icon is not turned on. Often times this is the main issue. Also, make sure you're touching the letters (or the object you want to outline) while in the selection mode. Let me know how it goes! :)

    This video has been really helpful! However, whenever I get to the "selection" step, the thickness of the outline doesn't change at all- and sometimes I end up inverting the colors of blurring the original lettering. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong! I'm going to keep playing around with it. Any tips? I know this may be hard to determine based on this short comment! Thanks for any help.

    Is there a way to outline the lettering and have just the outline. Like hollow in the middle.

      You have it right away! Once you've created the outline, you can just turn off the visibility of the layer that contains the lettering. You will be left with the layer that contains just the outline. Let me know if you need help. I also run a support group on Facebook made specifically to help out fellow artists :)

I thought that the layer would just make an outline around the letters and not fill the whole thing up underneath. I had no idea you could do what you showed me in the video, and also those effects are really dope! Well done and thank you for making the video. As for your second comment, don't worry man. I totally understand a person getting paid for their craft but sometimes people try to keep the secrets to a certain few.     I am having an issue on step 6. When I create a new layer it won’t fill in the outline. It wants to airbrush the background. What am I doing wrong? I am following your steps exact...

      Thanks for the feedback, Angelina. You can either swipe with two fingers to the right or tap on the layer and select Alpha Lock from the options. Does this help?

      Hey Mikey, really sorry about that. Every previous video that i made has the auto-generated subtitles. I guess it takes a few days for UA-cam to create them?
