The Olympus Pen-F is a great camera for several reasons. It boasts a stunning retro design that pays homage to the original Pen-F from the 1960s, appealing to both vintage camera enthusiasts and modern photographers.
Its build quality is excellent, with a solid magnesium alloy body that feels premium and durable. The camera features a high-resolution 20.3MP Micro Four Thirds sensor that delivers sharp and detailed images, with vibrant colours and good dynamic range.
The in-body 5-axis image stabilisation ensures sharp photos and smooth video, even in low-light conditions or when using slower shutter speeds.
The Pen-F also offers a unique creative experience with its customizable Colour Profile Control and Monochrome Profile Control, allowing photographers to experiment with different looks and styles straight out of the camera.
The electronic viewfinder is bright and clear, providing a great shooting experience, while the touchscreen is responsive and makes it easy to navigate the menu and settings.
Additionally, the Pen-F has a fast and accurate autofocus system, making it suitable for capturing a variety of subjects, from street photography to portraits.
Its compact size and lightweight design make it an excellent choice for photographers on the go, offering a perfect balance of portability and performance.

I totally agree, the PEN F is awesome. I would really like to see your recipes and how to get more out of the camera.
I’ve had a pen-f for years, love it, love it, love it.
Yes I’d love to see more workflow or presets etc.
I love my Pen F. People moan about 4/3rds and things that annoy them about cameras. They haven't used film cameras with manual everything. Man, they'd be lost if they had to shoot film. LOL! I grew up with film cameras. I lived in a great era of film. At 63 years old, my preference is for small cameras too. I have tried them all in film and digital. And I still use film. I have the 45mm, and the 17mm lens. So awesome. The 17mm is the daily.
Yeah, the perfect JPG shooters camera. The Mono/Color wheel is this camera’s hidden super power. I also love using manual focus lenses with this camera.
Totally agree!
People are so bent on Raw...but In the end its a jpg that gets printed and If you know how your camera works and you are happy with its JPG output than go for it! both JPG and RAW can make or break a photo...I often shoot SOOC or sometimes very minor tweeks ...Cheers.
It's a simple solution really. Shoot jpegs perfectly in camera and save both. Later, if you want to print a LARGE print, you have the raw available for that. MOST people just throw them online, and if we are being honest, an iPhone nowadays is good enough for that.
I just bought one. Coming soon.
Love that blue on your PEN-F.
I‘m still tempted getting one, but they‘re fairly expensive even second-hand.
Nice video Grant. Just getting to grips with mine and a M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm EZ lens, so I would love to see an eBook on the Pen-F. Keep up the good work.
Pen F's x2 here. My fave for most everything.
Great stuff Grant. I have been using the Pen-F just shy of you getting yours, and it has been a brilliant little camera. One thing I will say, the touch screen does come in handy, but I often leave the screen closed for EVF only shots which is nice. The 17mm f1.8 seems to be my go to lens at the moment.
The PEN-F is probably the GOAT of MFT cameras. It is a jpeg monster, to get the best out of it you have to "shoot for the jpeg" by using the features in the camera. This is probably Marmite, love it or hate it. If you shoot raw-only you are missing the point of the PEN-F. The only editor that can convert its raw and come close to the camera jpeg is OM Workspace, which will also allow you to save photos as profiles and load them back to the PEN-F. The app can export to Lightroom (and back again), which can do things that Workspace cannot but Adobe don't seem to understand the orf file and gives you a basic conversion you have to massage back to life.
I own my Pen-f since the day it came out... I thought about parting with it recently and I just couldn't. It's just too great of a camera.
Yeah - Hold on to it, they are skyrocketing in Value!!!
Same here. It's never leaving my hands.
Great video Grant ... my main kit is a Pen-F paired with the Pana-Leica 12-60mm f2.8-4 lens. All my editing is in OM Workspace (I shoot mainly landscapes that contain some form of human element, usually in monochrome, always in raw). It would be great if you did a video with the Pen-F and edited some photos using OM Workspace. Your views on this would be awesome, thank you.
Love my PEN-F. I have a GX9 coming this week. I’m planning to use it with manual lens.
recipes pls!
Maybe a year ago i could put my hand on a Pen F in impeccable condition (less than 20.000 clicks) from MPB for €520! Just 6 months later the average price for a similar Pen F had risen to €900-€1000! You think i'm happy?...
I just traded a x 100v for a pen f I love it. I would really like a tutorial and more tips how to use it. Thanks
Was out using mine over the weekend just with the Panasonic 12-32 lens. Nice and light and good results, although that lens looks a bit cheap on the Pen F. Voigtlander should make a M4/3 mount version of the 18mm 2.8 pancake they just released in X mount. I don't think I would bother using it with bigger lenses like the 12-40 though, at least not without an accessory grip. Those lenses are better on the OM-5, OM / EM 1s, G9s I think. I still shoot jpeg + raw always now on M4/3, as it gives extra legs in shadow recovery and low light noise control, especially using AI noise reduction software.
Thanks for the nice video. I appreciate the Pen F too very much. It’s a wonderful camera combined with small lenses. It would be wonderful, if you create a video or ebook for better results shooting jpegs with the Pen F.
Pen f is becoming pretty expensive on ebay and very difficult to find here in Europe
I bought mine prob. a year ago from MPB UK. for €520 in impeccable condition. But now you have pay around €1000!
Awesome photos! Are you using any film simulation?
Thanks :) Just my own presets I’ve developed in Lightroom :)
I saw two listed on KEH for over $1200! Neither came with the flash.
As a cinematographer I prefer the E-P7.
Your statement sparks my interest like a bolt of 🌩🌩🌩.
I've had the E-P7 for a few months, and I'm still trying to understand what appears to be its vast potential. Perhaps nearly unique potential, significantly shared only by the Pen F.
I'm especially keen to know what E-P7 features/capabilities are especially relevant to cinematography. I'm working to learn that art, and perhaps I already have a perfect camera to support my explorations.
Nowadays, it's the E-P7's color wheel transformations that I most hope to master. But I've only been exploring that with stills so far, not video.
I deeply appreciate any comments, suggestions or guidance you could offer. With gratitude, ... Gary.
Love my Pen F! Wouldn’t swap it for anything…
I have an EP-7 but shoot raw (and edit in lightroom) , should i just change to JPEG ??
Would the pen f with a macro lens be ok or should I choose a different camera I’m looking in to getting in to macro photography I’m a newbie to cameras.
you’ll probably get more value out of the Olympus omd em1 mkii or a Panasonic G9 :)
@@grantrobertdavies thank you
I have loved using the Pen F, and thought I would never part with it. I started with the Leica 25 f1.4, then added the Pany 14mm f2.5 and the 20mm f1.7. But after looking at hundreds of pics I have taken with it, for the life of me, I can’t see that they’re any better than those I took with my former LX100 M2. It is just hard to beat that little Leica Summilux f1.7 zoom, and it has the equivalent of all those lenses built in. So I bought another LX, and my Pen F will soon be on eBay.
