The use of Protector in Heroes In Crisis comes off more as a snarky inside joke rather than a heartfelt reexamination of the character, and frankly undercuts the whole event as a result...
The first comic was my first exposure to the Teen Titans besides old reruns of the 60s cartoon. (I'm not THAT old.) I really liked the characters, including the Protector so it saddens me to see Tom King ruin him. Just another problem I have with him. I think one of the sequel comics actually has the Protector's origin though.
Weed just makes you look at a page all day until you sleep wondering why the crest toothpaste looking guy is in the Justice League. Alcohol more or less the same, but everything is blurry and you might puke on the same page. Peyote makes you transcend reality so the comic won't matter, your body is destabilizing and your soul has to reconnect or get kicked from the server.
The scenes are later revealed to be testimonies given during a support group, except for Speedy's which was trying to convince some of the focus kids that drugs will mess you up by going over his own story.
I could see an almost satirical mini series about the protector, showing that long chain of events, and he just so happens to have some incredibly cheasy hero suit (say he worked for a batburger or something) and he has to save hia cousin from getting killed by a dealer or something after not paying his debt back. Crappy characters can be remade! Look at Animal man or blue beetle
When I was in elementary school (yeah, I'm old) I got to represent my school at these drug/comic book meeting and report to class. I went to meet my, at the time, favorite First Lady (yeah, at age 11 I was a conservative, so?). She missed showing up to one, but I meat "The Protector", Wonder Woman, and "Batman", actors, of course. But this cemented my love of the Titans and DC comics.
It was not the only time Cyborg was animated prior to the tt cartoon. I had to look it up, but Cyborg was featured prominently in a later version of the Super Friends, "Galactic Guardians" voiced by Ernie Hudson. Had his origin and everything.
I think DC comics should use the protector as a alternate persona of the robins when they need to play hero and have a more open persona. I think that the protector main line hero should be the result of a mishap of grayson (night-wing) who spends his time trying to help the protector come to terms with drug themed problem, his sheild is a bat-family "relic" that acts as his bat-arang and has some deep attachment linked to a darker theme, such as the occult like the hero medallion, a literal family shield from antiquity (possibly a Wayne family connection like an old Wayne rival from Thomas Wayne's era), or is apart of the protectors own drug filled hallucination.
@DenverEight .....im sure the protector can make a comeback in DC's Dark Knights: Metal... probably a cousin of James Gordon Junior (son of commisioner gordon, who suffers from drug addiction)

I think i still should have this comic book of the X-men saying no to smoking.i also think i got it from school as well so they still used comic book to help kids dont do drugs.

With that said, I first heard of the Protector during Linkara's videos on the Teen Titans anti-drug comics rather than in Heroes in Crisis, was really surprised to see him in there... and really confused as to what the heck actually even happened in the latest issue.
I got all these things but then I burnt them when I didn't see robin at all and the school tried to put me in detention but the senco lady at the time knew robin was a superhero I loved and them removing him Was OF course gonna cause me trouble so I didn't get in trouble so thanks to her existing I didn't get any problems for hating them

In brazil, they used the original version from the storyline on the comic books with robin originally, only the commercial they kept the protector on. I still have my original comics from the 80's with me, since I'm a true original titans fan since they first assemble in the 80's. Even now, living in USA I never knew that he was scrapped from the story due to a cookie battle in court. I guess outside the USA the original story was kept in every publication around the world. You should make a video showing diferences on publications and story arcs from different countries, that would give enough material for a new series of videos. I hope that would make it work. I loved the channel by the way. I started randomly by watching the crisis episode and have been binge watching of your D.C. content ever since. Yeah, "pro", when, Richard, Wallace, Victor, Garfield, Joseph... I always saw the original Nightwing costume as "stealing Dazzler's clothes and dyeing them midnight blue". so you mentioned that the entire reason he was on your radar was one line about fighting drugs when he himself did them, yet that single line was never expanded? sure, there is nothing wrong with a PSA character being killed off for being shallow and heavy-handed, but if they wanted to make something more out of him, that would have been the way to do it.

He was actually a very clever McGuffin/Clue to Dark Angel's whole plan. She was trying to get Donna to feel irrelevant or even that she wasn't real. (In part because her then origin was as Diana's imaginary friend come to life.) What better way to do that than to make her think she was on a team/friends with a 'fake character'. Of course this makes the appearance in the Secret Files two months before (in a story set AFTER that) a bit problematic. As how could a hero who never existed show up at a recruitment drive.
