Tomorrow will be my 23rd day sober. I’ve been watching all of your videos for months now to mentally prepare and now maintain this sobriety. Feel pretty decent without alcohol as well - you can get a good high from a long run followed by some NA beers. Cheers for all ur videos. You’re making a big difference to my life.
Really honest and open journey with alcohol. I can relate with my relationship with alcohol. I’m the 50 year old electrical engineer who starts drinking from 1pm most days .finishes by 7pm and up for work every day . Switched from lager to strong 8% cider . Sadly just been diagnosed with alcoholic fatty liver and up to 23 stone . Selfish as have a 3 year old daughter. Always in denial tho . Great channel and really helpful 👍

Well done Steven for pulling through and spreading your story. Alcohol should have a universal best before 30 years of age. After that your chasing the good times you had with friends . After 30 the friends are all married off and all your left with is the booze and its not your friend. My dad was an alcoholic . Lost contact with him when I was 7. Never saw him again until I was 40 . Got told he was dying and I went to see him in hospital . Died a few days later.
I was never that bad but i knew I was out of control when I quit 8 years ago. I occasionally think maybe I could start again but your story has scared that thought away. It’s everywhere and so dangerous. It’s a brave thing you’re doing here and it will save lives

Thank you for this mate, my mind is now focused. I’m not an alcoholic but I do have alcohol issues. I only drink on Saturday and Sunday, cram about 15 pints into a 36 hour window weekly but I know it’s too much and not sustainable. I don’t drink during the week because I go to the gym and I couldn’t if I drank and I think that saves me really. I’m a retired police officer as well but I’ve got another job which again helps. I’m going to drink more mindfully going forward, I don’t want to stop but I need to be more mindful about the amounts I drink, particularly on a Saturday. By the way Guinness zero is beautiful isn’t it. I happily drink that on Friday evenings 👍🏻
Thanks so much Steven for sharing this important story. Everywhere on TV they show beer commercials especially during sports programs. If people could only see the terrible health conditions alcohol causes. Love your channel mate 👍

Good for you! I'm 2 weeks in. Not the first time I managed to escape the loop. I'm 44 years old and I feel that my last relapse, lasting 4 months, really damaged my body more than 'usual'. Each relapse is just worse. Like Craig McFerguson said: "Stay Vigilant." I used to convince myself that i could drink just for one night, after a couple of months of being on the wagon. Just to scratch that itch i'd walk around with for a couple of days, or whatever false reason. We don't really need it. All the best, brother.
Such a cautionary tale. The thing the strikes me the most is how your blood work each year was normal within health guidelines when you were so close to your body breaking down. Incredible grit & determination to get back to health. Cheers

Just for your info Steven - the NHS stopped giving out valium for treatment of alcohol withdrawal following a few deaths. Valium is a GABBA aggonist, the same as alcohol is too - which means that if someone takes valium AND alcohol together then it doubles the effect - and that can can stop you breathing.
I’m not an alcoholic Steve. Lived through a drinking culture many years ago now, I’m an ex military man and police officer too, so I can relate to your story. Fortunately for me, I did enjoy sport. Running, every day was my thing. That stopped me drinking as much as I might have done and I am grateful for it. I don’t run now, but I am a cyclist and now it’s cycling that is the distraction. I don’t drink much at all these days, but I understand how dangerous alcohol drinking is. It is a drug causing hell amongst our population and the worst thing about alcohol is its accessibility. It’s cheap and it’s everywhere. Well done for stopping drinking Steven, I hope you are finished for good.

Its great to see a good decent man alive and kicking against all odds. I have the same issue but not with alcohol. All addictions will destroy you In different ways. But I have to say that alcohol is particularity nasty in the way it slowly eats away at your healthy and your soul. If you walk in any pub, you can bet that the same people will always be there, they are there choose what, it can be knee deep in snow but they would crawl there if they had to, they are the ones with the problem. I've seen them queue outside Wetherspoons to get in when they open at 9.00am, you have to have a problem to be in a pub from opening to closing time.
@stevencurry215 I don't think they help, neither does having supermarkets selling massive amounts of alcohol on bogof deals or own brand copies of popular brands at half the price. Maybe minimum unit price like in Scotland would help, but an alcoholic would pay any price to get what they want.
