It was visionary that Kelvin saw two significant problems in Physics: (1) Inconsistencies between Mechanics and Electromagnetism, and (2) Describing the interaction between matter and the electromagnetic field. The first inspired Special Relativity and the second Quantum Mechanics. Working out the details was left as an exersize for the 20th Century.
17:10 "published 3 papers" - FOUR scientific papers plus his dissertation - (1) photoelectric effect (2) brownian motion (3) special theory of relativity (4) mass energy equivalence - and he was still a patent clerk at the time - age 26
I've just learned, to my great surprise, that the double-slit experiment was performed at the turn of the nineteenth century, and presented to the 1803 Royal Society with a nice drawing to show the interference pattern of light waves. I haven't found any mentions of 'observer influenced' in these early works. A 'valve' is a vacuum tube, right? Do the purists still think they reproduce music better?
"The trouble with common sense is, it isn't common", Voltaire..., until you meet a skilled Mathematician. When you understand condensation of energy to vapour, liquid and solid, you have the basic sense of quantization, and can put this sequence into a Quantum setting of temporal phase-states. Thereafter, the basic concepts of String Theory are a reverse process, Mathematically. Ie it's what is the cause-effect of primes and cofactors from a Polar-Cartesian coordinates point of view at the, mechanical-law timing-spacing, mathematical center of QM-TIME, a dimensional singularity, extracted by "common sense" from the observable landscape, in the full spectrum, historical perspective of quantization. Orientation of perception to see Timespace => spacetime is trivial for a child, ..almost impossible for an adult conditioned by years of distractions of re-presentation in non mathematical, subjective/superficial nomenclature "inadvertently" intended to maintain the "status quo".
I wish he would stop apologizing for using math. If you don't know what a matrix is, then you should pick up a book. And isn't the Dirac delta function just another version of the Heaviside integral?
What an interesting time to be alive, where we will probably be thrown back to the stone age before we have quantum computers.
thank you for your persistence
Max Planck was an advocate and mentor to Albert Einstein.
Einstein is Planck's second most important discovery.

Kelvin really knew how to heat up a field of knowledge, eh?
@@JohnVKaravitis Cool comment! ;)

"Max Plank"? 100 burpees for Mr. Budd.
Nice talk

Special theory relativity was really founded by Lorentz and Poincare, Einstein finished the theory based on their work.

I don’t think there is a sense which is common to all life.
Reproduce.
You
Um
I had an OBE. No big deal.
Well uhm that's er ehm uh no ehm sad no great eh no ehm bril- ehm , ( inserts utterly unfunny joke ) , and ehm but ehm ( etc )
Great words. But every third word is an um,umm. I find it hard to follow....! um is a negative state!
