Cara Gee (Drummer) was 8 months pregnant in the scene with Keon Alexander (Marco). There were friends from before the show. On "Ty and That Guy" Keon said Cara bumped him with her baby bump to throw him off for fun on that take. :) Frankie Adams (Bobby) wasn't a boxer. She did trained to box for a charity event. She was young actor for a New Zealand soap opera before the Expanse.
3:26 "she wanted to kill Marco and Filip stopped her." As he was leading her off the bridge, Filip muttered that she should be grateful he took her. Saved her life. Filip didn't see the knife up her sleeve. He wasn't saying he saved her life by stopping her, but by kidnapping her. (So she wouldn't have been killed when Roci powered up and blew itself to kingdom come.) Naomi had been given other clues but this was the hint she needed to put it all together. So she slugged Cyn and used his comms to warn Holden about the sabotage. While she was being restrained her knife dropped on the deck and then her little cat was out of the bag.
Ehh… she’s out here near Pallas I think, whereas the Rocinante is docked at Tycho; had Marco’s scheme gone 100%, the Rocinante would have departed without Naomi right after the sample was hijacked and blown up due to the sabotage… poetically Filip would have saved Naomi but only because she earlier insisted on leaving alone and chase him to save his life
The thing to realize with Clarissa's poem about "...I am not a monster because monsters are not afraid..." Amos has said in the past that he has not felt fear since he was five. Have a close look at his reaction and think of what he must be feeling.
Have I ever told you two how thankful I am that you are reacting to my favorite show? I absolutely love your intro, reaction and outro! So many great moments in this episode! From the vulnerability of Chrisjen ( great acting), fantastic action with Alex and Bobbie, amazing interaction with Drummer and Marco! Drummer: " What no throne?" Love her! Amos and Peaches, so damn good! Peaches story about monsters aren't afraid, the look on Amos's face realizing he is the monster! Amos: " I need to get back to my people!" God I love this show! Looking forward to the next one ladies!
@55:35 "you people have no idea how much I love this episode." Speaking on behalf of "people," yes we do. Watching you is as close as I'll come to watching my favorite show with fans like me. It's quite fun listening to your recaps and predictions. I promise you vindication, joy, sorrow, and fear ... but not in that order.
Your timestamp should say 30:23 and not 55:35 55:35 is the length of the entire video so if someone clicks of it you end up at the end of the video. She says that comment at 30:23
Cara Gee and Keon Alexander are good friends in real life. Cara was eight months pregnant when they shot the scenes of Drummer and Marco meeting. When she stepped close to Keon, she bumped him with her baby belly...he only showed a very little bit of a smile. When Amos stripped down, he had the scar through his shoulder from when he was shot on Ganymede. It was interesting that Fliip knew nothing about the incident on the Behemoth, even though it was public information (Monica's reporting). That tells us how deep in the Marco cult that Filip's life has been. I think the fear that Peaches meant was her fear of becoming a monster. But although Amos does not feel fear, he also fears being a monster...but he doesn't know on his own how to avoid being a monster.
You didn't pickup on it but the reason Clarissa mistook the Sun for the Moon is because the impacts where so huge they threw up so much debris it's blocking out the sun. It's gonna cause global temperatures to drop
24:58. Peaches little werewolf. In season 3 we saw how strong and fierce her mod made her, but apparently blinding speed was the part of the package that zero-g cancels out. Or maybe the combo of Martian blockers and Earth blockers has been wreaking new adaptations on her, altering her response to the enhanced adrenaline. Time will tell. The prepper's son was a bluff. A posed corpse or scarecrow holding a rifle out the window. Amos saw right through it because no one capable of shooting would ever have stood still long enough to let an icicle form at the muzzle of the gun. (In BSG, Laura Roslyn was 43rd in the line of succession.) I don't know how far down the list Paster was, but his invitation to Crisjen was less to honor her but to enhance his own legitimacy as SecGen.
Such a good season. Full of shocking moments and great dialog. A proper deep dive into Amos and Naomi's characters. I think it's my favourite of them all.
Great reaction as always :) And love your discussions before and after. One thing that is mentioned briefly but a bit more in the books is the difference between killing face-to-face and from a distance. Killing a few million Earthers who you've never seen, don't know and are just faceless Earthers is one thing, but killing a single person who you know by name face-to-face is worse in some ways. Numbers on a screen compared to a living person in front of you. It's brought up with Holden in book one actually (and maybe in the TV show?) because Holden's never killed anyone face-to-face and doing so ship-to-ship at dots on a screen is totally different. Doesn't change anything of what you've said :) You're totally right, I just found it an interesting discussion point, as this show/books are filled with :)
The monster's not afraid line is from the books. "I have killed, but I am not a killer. Because a killer is a monster and monsters aren't afraid." Wonder what that makes Amos.
As a couple of people have mentioned - season 6 has some bonus shorts after episodes 1-5 (no short after the final episode, sadly). They are great small bits of storytelling that you don't want to miss!
I love this episode too but get ready. It's about to get turned way up next ep and from here to the end of the season...some people, I realise, did not like it as much as me but I *really* don't understand. The performances, writing and action are next level IMHO. I'm interested to see how you like it. Great reaction, guys. See you for "Oyedeng" - means "good-bye" in Lang Belta.
I enjoyed this season but I understand some people having a problem with this season. If you read the books. Book five was my favorite. And it was so much more epic and devastating. You would need a major movie budget to see the massive destruction on earth. I loved the Amos and Peaches arc this season. And they did great for TV series and the budget they had. But just the excitement and anticipation for book 5 to air. There will be a let down after all a book has no budget and no set amount of episodes. It's the same thing with season 6. Only 6 episodes to do a book. To much was cut out. But I can still enjoy every episode and still think it is the best sci fi on TV. And this series is unique as there are parts of the TV series I like much more than the books. And also parts of the books I like better than the TV series. They did an incredible job. As most adaptation from book for movies and TV are beyond bad. Almost no one has both author's in the writers room. And a showrunner that was passionate about the books. I was amazed what they were able to pull off. And thankful to get 6 seasons.
@johnwright7033 Replaying to your 2 year old comment, as I'm here rewatching this reaction series. The first time I read the 5th book I was filled with a level of dread and horror that I've almost never experienced from fiction before. I remember having a pit in my stomach for a few days from thinking about the utter horror of what Marcos did. Season 5 is good, but I definitely agree that it just can't compare in that aspect. Man, I do hope they adapt the rest of the story someday, I found everything from the Laconia invasion onwards immensely impactful as well. When that ship came into Sol system... man. And the way the Laconians all acted, almost pleasant until they were resisted and their monsterous nature was revealed. Also Duarte is such a fascinating character. Anyways... I'm rambling, I'll stop.
Honestly the Clarissa and Amos relationship is the most interesting this whole season, I don't see it as a romantic relationship even though you could clearly ship them if you wanted to, it's weird cuz they barely know each other but Amos clearly sees something in her he wants to protect, idk if its maybe because both have brutal dark past or something but I'm so interested to see where the show takes them.
Many people don't understand Amos - he's not intimate with people he cares about... he protects those people. He clearly has normal sexual urges but he'll never love the people he has sex with - something Wei never learned on Ilus.
Well, at least in the US (which a lot of the UN government in this show is based on, stuff like the Secretary-Heneral being elected by popular vote instead of by parliament, or the main plane/ship reserved for the Secretary-General being called "UN One" and so on), the Secretary of Transportation is slightly ahead of the Secretary of Education in the presidential line of succession, sitting at 14th and 16th respectively. But that's not really due to a thought-out line of succession that would make sense but just based on when these Departments that the secretaries are the heads of were formed. It would make way more sense for the Secretary of Homeland Security, for example, to be higher up than at 18th and last, as it is at the moment, but that's just because the Department of Homeland Security is the most recent Federal Department to be formed.
The writers have said that Ade's last words are a mystery. Even they don't know what she was going to say. They have said that it was definitely not "I'm pregnant," as birth control would be a huge priority on a space ship (plus it's too obvious). They have also joked that she was going to tell James that she was sleeping with Shed, but it's just that, a joke.
For what it's worth, in the United States the Secretary of Transportation is 14th in line of succession. It's probably a similar number of people ahead of that guy in the UN.
I adore this episode. It comes the closest to capturing the relationship between Amos and Peaches from the books. Love it and love them. Thank you for such wonderful reactions and the love you have for this show.
[Seeing the Razorback floating in space]: Nope. Sod that. Uh-ugh. No tha.. [Remembering they'd be trapped with Bobby]: I'm good. Yeah, I'd be fine. Yes please. 😂🤣
39:07 Not really. Fillip and Naomi are his family and he loves them, the inners are not family and he doesn't care for them at all. We are tribal creatures at the end of the day. Sometimes it really is just as simple as "us vs them."
You girls need to watch the Ty interviews with both the actos who played Drummer & Inaro, they are good friends and had some fun little details about their interaction with the scenes in this episode. Cara (Drummer) by the way was 8 months pregnant in this episode, they hid it well.
Kaon Alexander said he was super intimidated during their confrontation on the Pella because, out of frame, Cara Gee pinned him with her pregnant belly. Also the animal-like scream during Peach's mod attack was ad-libbed by Nadine Nicole and freaked the crew out. And Wes Chatham's scene in his underwear really was filmed in the frigid Canadian winter.
The thing about Marco is that he is right in a way, the inners dont care for the belt, and have been killing them for generations. I am not saying he was right to do as he did, just saying that the reason he has so many followers is because like i said he is right.
I know you're not defending Marco, but it's important to say that it was the governments of Earth and Mars that were killing Belters. Nearly all of the people he killed on Earth are no better off than Belters, and just as abused by their government. Most of them would rather be living in the Belt than living on Earth anyway. The attack on the Martian parliament was at least targeting the right people, but I'm not sure how much involvement Marco had with that, I think it was probably just the rogue Martian Navy.
Watching your reactions back-to-back and you guys are a comedy duo, even funnier than Team ABC! Expanse 0505 L: "I would rather be with Amos, honestly, stuck down there..." M: "We all know you would rather be with Amos stuck down there..." Expanse 0506 L: "Oh we're floating in space. This is my nightmare." M: "Honestly if I was in this ship, with Bobbie, I can't say this is my nightmare."
I really enjoy seeing when you two have posted a new Expanse reaction video. Pretty sure you mentioned before, quite awhile back, about maybe reading the book series. Hope you do because although it is the same story, it is a very different story. Both are great.
im listen to the audio book of this season its different but its great the show does something different but the things they change are really great too
I understand and agree with your opinion when you say you don't get why anyone would follow Marco. But it's also understandable why a Belter's hatred would run so deep that joining Marco would be justified. The most telling line to consider, and one of my favorites, is from Marco himself -- "We were already at war. You just couldn't see it because they were killing us slow." In many Belter's minds they have been in slavery for generations. The innocents they killed are still their suppressors. It doesn't rationalize killing so many but 🤷♀️
It took 4-6 months to get from the ring space to Luna. Amos and Clarissa became close during that time....she worked under him as his assistant. Although not romantic they are close.....and have been for quite a while. After generations of slavery most slaves believe there is nothing that can be done. The belters are slaves to the inners. There was no way for them to get out of that. Their only chance was a leader like Marco. The really sad thing is with the advance of technology over throwing a government, from within, becomes almost impossible. Humanity does not change course due 'to good' actions....it only becomes more enslaved....only through war, violence, and death does change actually occur. Welcome to our species.
OMG you still haven't seen Bojack Horseman! Given how smart and empathetic you are, I had like... a fake memory that you must've reacted to this masterpiece already. This is just a crime, this show has to be next!
I love how Amos acknowledges the effect his Roci family have on him & realises he is degrading without them.
This is one of my favourite Amos moments in the entire series.
I really like how Amos started off barely trusting Holden, and now James is basically his moral compass
Cara Gee (Drummer) was 8 months pregnant in the scene with Keon Alexander (Marco). There were friends from before the show. On "Ty and That Guy" Keon said Cara bumped him with her baby bump to throw him off for fun on that take. :)

Ah, nice, I never picked up on that aspect - Filip referring to Kidnapping her saving her life.

Love the reactions ladies 🍻 such a good episode. This is my favourite season it has sooo much character depth.
This season was so good, and it keeps getting better each episode
The times in the show are compacfed for practical reasons. As example the journey to Ilus took almost 4 years in novel times
Next episode is one of the best!
I don't even know this show but I really miss watching their reactions, so I'm watching the intro for an update of them

You’re English are really good! Are you ladies Brazilians or portuguese ? Can’t wait to see both of your reactions of HoTD ep5!!💯
Whenever I know someone is about to watch this season for the first time, I tell them the subtitle is “The Badass Women of The Expanse.”
I really enjoy seeing when you two have posted a new Expanse reaction video. Pretty sure you mentioned before, quite awhile back, about maybe reading the book series. Hope you do because although it is the same story, it is a very different story. Both are great.
I'll keep it vague to not spoil it but with how certain you two believe you are, I guess you're up for quite the shocking scene.
Marco Inaros is particularly scary because people like him actually do exist.
im listen to the audio book of this season its different but its great the show does something different but the things they change are really great too
I understand and agree with your opinion when you say you don't get why anyone would follow Marco.
