Instead he, for about 10 seconds, moved over there and then showed Jay's face and ignored the engine. I had to read here to see if it was only me that was driven nuts by this.

It's easy to be critical when you aren't the one who put wrench to bolt. It is amazing what they've built here and there are many little features and thoughts put into this car. The quality of the work, the tremendous amount of knowledge needed to make all the changes, and the sheer labor of such a build are worthy of appreciation. I've always tried to find the "fun" in whatever the car is and, even if it's something that is completely out of my field of interest, I try to appreciate the passion of the person who put it together.
Jay hit the nail on the head when he said that there would be people who wouldn't get this build. This isn't the Miata, with an LS swap, from the pop up shop down the street. This is what 99% of the custom builders aspire to create and what 1% actually do.

I had a two toned purple 1948 caddy when I live din L.A. in the 80s. Loved the car except when I had to try and stop. Love me some caddy cars. I had a 68 rag top and a 63 Fleetwood limo. The Fleetwood had features you did not see on other cards for a decade. Thanks Jay. Great to see what people are doing today in restoration and modification.

The man had the money, a dream, and the right men to fulfill it for him. This is not a true restore job. It is a "let's create something new with a touch of the old" job. In my opinion they were entirely successful at that. Personally I like it. What the Ring brothers accomplished is nothing short of brilliant.

    • @Pumpkingilmour
      @Pumpkingilmour 7 років тому +3

I agree. The mentality of "they desecrated a classic again" doesn't wash with me. This thing is ANCIENT. 1948 was almost 70 years ago. Imagine back in 1980s salvaging the bones of a car from 1910 and everyone saying that you should drive it closer to stock.....
Someone here made the point that they salvaged the old cadillac shell from eventual date with the crusher or rusting away in a scrap yard.
I love the concept of taking something so old which was probably baking in the desert sun in California with the linoleum cooking on the dash and so hopelessly oppressive and making it so incredibly luxurious and comfortable inside, and its even white, which means it has a new lease on life in the desert sun, staying cool and air conditioned.

My Dad and Gramps worked for Buick. I'm a Buick guy. Gramps quit school in the 8th Grade and went to work for Buick in Flint MI to support the family. That was in 1912, I think. He lied and said he had a driver's license and became a Buick test driver. Dad came out of the navy and went to GMI, which is called Kendrick University, or similar, now. He passed away a year ago and left me his 2008 Lucerne. Loaded, of course. It only has 30,700 miles on it. It's a boat, but I feel him in the passenger seat every time I drive it. The lines on that car are gorgeous. I'd change to a Caddy guy for that.

The Ring Brothers always amaze me with their attention to detail. They seem to take extreme pleasure in fooling the eye by substituting a new material for an older version but then disguising it so it's not noticeable, or perfectly recreating an old materials shape but leaving it exposed as the new choice. Just amazing in every way, as always.

Hey these Ring Bros. guys are toy makers on a large scale. They don't make stuff for museums or have "numbers matching" obsessions. They start with distinctive rides and bling them out till the car rides like it came from the factory last week. I don't care what any of the haters (who incidentally probably don't have one...) say about this ride. This Caddy is spot on, an awesome toy (yes that's what it is - a toy)and I wish I had one to play around with.

Resto-mod or not, it's an absolutely beautiful car. The fact that it drives like a modern car is a huge plus... it's NOT supposed to be a preserved '48 and that's fine. Like you Jay, I'd love to have seen the interior kept stock but.... well that interior looked mighty comfy to me... All in all, what a stunning piece of rolling art work... The Ring Brothers strike again!

I love that car. I think more old cars should be done the same way. So you can enjoy driving an old car, but still have modern technology and safety. I personally wouldn't have ALL the modern stuff in it. But it's great how they did it. The Ring brothers are geniuses. Love all their work

The haters really came out in the comments on this one. The Ringbrothers are phenomenal builders. They fulfilled their customer's order with this bulls. And they knocked it out if the park. If you don't like it don't hate. Go try and build you own restomod. Scrubs.

AWESOME! I'd trade my CTS Coupe with ALL the creature Features (24,000 miles and Same Color to) for this, incredible job, great work looks fantastic! Ring Bros did it again! :)) I really am not crazy about the ATS being the New Cadillac V Coupe, an entry level Caddy with twin turbos, I am just shaking my head NOoooo! Really like the size and Style of the CTS BUT THIS is incredible, can not find enough words to say how great this car looks and how very Jealous I am over this! LOL
I've driven a few ATS's and compared to CTS there is NO COMPARISON, ATS is too small! I can not reach across to the passenger door handle on my CTS without crawling over the console, the ATS I hardly have to bend to reach the door handle on it, it is that much more narrow, CRAMPED! The '48 has all the room in the world, looks GREAT but would look better with ME driving it or sitting in MY Garage! LOL

Guys used to dink around knocking chips off big blocks of marble and would come up with a nice looking statue.
Now they take big hunks of iron and the art moves you in different ways, but it's still beautiful.

It's a stunner. Absolutely top notch, and only for the super rich. Just gorgeous, but not my kind of car. My cheapskate genes would not accept this car.
If somebody gifted this thing to me, I'd sell it immediately. I don't oppose rest-o-moding a car, and I have some ideas on which cars I'd have rest-o-moded if I had money to burn, but it wouldn't be on the extreme side. I'm glad that there are people who know how to do this kind of building, and that they can make money doing it. I am in awe that they can do such a high quality build.

Al Parker they don't make cars like this anymore because there are a bunch of little kids working at most of the car companies nowadays and they just want to see mass-produced pieces of plastic rolling down the road with engines they don't care what it looks like as long as it sells and as long as they can make a cool commercial showing that car going down the road and what it can do they don't care what it looks like back in the day when this car was designed you may as well have called the designers artists because that's what they were
