I am in awe at how this song has the same impact in my heart, everytime. I immediately open my heart again to these lyrics; and I am grateful for all my feelings of having been in love in the past. No matter what the outcome of having loved was, the guitar in my heart sang all day and night, and that is what I call "living in awake emotion." In our commercial society today, people so underestimate romantic love. Yet, as we grow older, it is the romantic memories we hold onto the most. When this song came out in 1993, I was in love with love and in love with spirituality and this band composed songs about the soul and its journey through life and beyond. This band inspired feelings of gratefulness, profound spiritual experience and unity with the universe, feeling the past, the present and the future as one. And so, young people such as myself back then, dreamed on and lived in the land of love...
I remember back when you could go to a record shop and listen to CD's for free before you purchased them. I walk in one day at 25 and I was feeling a little down and lonely. I kinda remove myself from friends to avoid drama and I saw a CD called Dead Can Dance and I'm 51 now and I could listen to them forever. His voice just puts me in a trance
Don't fade away, my brown-eyed girl Come walk with me, I'll fill your heart with joy And we'll dance through our isolation Seeking solace in the wisdom we bestow Turning thoughts to the here and ever after Consuming fears in our fiery halos Say what you mean Mean what you say I've heard that innocence Has led us all astray But don't let them make you and break you The world is filled with their broken empty dreams Silence is their only virtue Locked away inside their silent screams But for now let us dance away this starry night Filled with the glow of fiery stars And with the dawn our sun will rise Bringing a symphony of bird cries Don't bring me down now Let me stay here for awhile You know life's too short Let me bathe here in your smile I'm transcending The fall from the garden Goodnight
@@davidflitcroft7101 Thank you for your beautyful words, this song it makes me think on my wife, we´ve merried on 2005 and we danced this song, it was the better of my moments!!!
You're so right, and I need to do this. I once played it for some friends around a campfire in an isolated nature preserve in Chile, next to a reverb cliff wall, with the sound of the Pacific Ocean in the distance, and it was the first and only time so far in my life that I've brought tears to anybody else's face with music, and my own with them. It's a damned beautiful song. Life's too short. Let me stay here for a while. I'm transcending the fall from the garden.
This is the actual live recording from that show, the last one performed there (Santa Monica, I think?) since it burned out shortly after. I’ve seen DCD and Brendan solo each a number of times and the guy’s amazing. He can sing difficult songs live (one take) that sound like they’ve been recorded in a studio.
I believe this was the playlist for that night (at the end of this post). It was the set for the show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles on Nov 15th, 1993. They then played consecutive evenings at the Mayfair Theater in Santa Monica on Nov 16th and 17th, when this concert video was shot (“Toward The Within”). However the video was released on VHS only and omits a number of songs that were performed, probably for length. I really wish we could get a fully remastered Blu-ray version of the entire show released at some point... As this was from the Wiltern two nights before, it should be the same (but may not be). What was included on the video seems to be in the correct order and maybe the outro sung during the credits is what they’re saying was the third encore - “Lament” (I always wondered if that piece had a name). I’m just speculating, though. This tour, in the Fall of 1993, was one of the very coolest concert experiences I ever had. Back when I could still imagine my musical "heroes" existing practically as ethereal beings, they lived up to every expectation, and virtually every song they performed was something new to me, with very few album tracks. It was a truly peak experience as a concert-goer. Flash forward four years later, with some aging and exposure to music from around the world, and their concert in another venue in the same city left me feeling so deflated. That, and BP played a cover of a Tim Buckley song ("Dolphins"? Is that the title?), and I have never liked TB, and it was like a bathroom-break song, and my love of DCD never recovered. Now I hear most of their work as pseudo-this, or pseudo-that, and the work I liked the least, what I thought of in my youth as "cheesy Brendan Perry songs," are the parts of Dead Can Dance that can still speak to me. I can't tolerate Lisa Gerrard's music now for more than a few minutes.
John Grunwell So lucky you seen this live, personally I think it's one of there top performances. I'm blown away by both of there tremendous talents, for the last 25 years. Wish I found them earlier. I was fortunate at 14 a friend let me hear this.

Such a powerful song.
I love everything about these artists
He has the voice of a god
Cernunnos
You stole my words
They are INspired by God, I really do believe!
Don't fade away, my brown-eyed girl
Come walk with me, I'll fill your heart with joy
And we'll dance through our isolation
Seeking solace in the wisdom we bestow
Turning thoughts to the here and ever after
Consuming fears in our fiery halos
Say what you mean
Mean what you say
I've heard that innocence
Has led us all astray
But don't let them make you and break you
The world is filled with their broken empty dreams
Silence is their only virtue
Locked away inside their silent screams
But for now let us dance away this starry night
Filled with the glow of fiery stars
And with the dawn our sun will rise
Bringing a symphony of bird cries
Don't bring me down now
Let me stay here for awhile
You know life's too short
Let me bathe here in your smile
I'm transcending
The fall from the garden
Goodnight
