I don't want to give away too much of my own situation, but I must say your remark is spot on. Listening to beautiful (depressing, emotional) music indeed makes you feel understood, and not even more depressed.
your comment makes me feel I might be past my depression stage after divorce. but then again I've always been in love with music. and this music piece [cover of a not very happy tune earlier performed by the divine Liz Frazer] sounds awesome and uplifting to me now. so yeah. I wish you all the best.
Its Catharsis, living out emotions and reflect on it and integrate them into the conciouss sonit stops popping up grom the back of ones head and keeps bothering wich over time leads to neurotic behaviour and eventually even neurosis(Jung).
On the eve of my 44th birthday, and this came into my world. DCD a faint fixture of my high school days. 44, the age my father died. 44, the age of my maternal grandmother at my birth. The same Grandmother, who is very much all I have in this world. What a beautifully haunting surprise. May get through the next 44 hours just yet.
No need to argue about this "Liz vs Brendan" stuff. Both versions are incredible and both bring their own inimitable style to the song. Fantastic song and I'm so glad I got to see Brendan and Robin perform it in Los Angeles. Can't wait for DCD!
This song is very healing to me. It brings me back to the core wound of not being loved, through the tides of longing and fear, love and despair... Back to my own heart and healing tears. 🙏🏻
You should check him out in concert with Dead can dance. I caught the live performance in 2012 in Berkeley CA. Boy did they bring it. :) It's on UA-cam actually.
I hope that one day I will be lucky enough to see Dean Can Dance play and sing in Denmark. I have been listening to Dean Can Dance for many decades. When I had a cerebral hemorrhage it was Dead Can Dance that I listened to when I first wanted to hear some music after being in the hospital. Love and sadness united in music..
So great to see Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins on guitar with Brendan Perry. The CTwins and DCD carried 4AD Records for years, and made a wonderful soundtrack to a decade of memories for me as well.
KEXP is like the "Garden of the Gods". Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined these two masters playing together THIS song. Thanks to whoever made it possible and thanks to KEXP & DJ El Toro for sharing it.
Hmm yes I don't know about most beautiful ever sometimes see my old UA-cam comments and reel a bit silly, it is a lovely song though and I think this version sounds great! Haven't heard one that I don't like though.
This song helped me in my darkest hours! This song make me so much light, and it help to fight against the dark thoughts! Thank you Brendan for this wonderful positive song!
Tim's voice is insurmountable...and also Tim's original version is stunning (ask Brendan he will confirm it)....tho' it's nice to see one of your favorite artists covering the greatest artist ever...and this is the second time he does that (successfully dare I say)...long live Brendan long live Tim. both adorable both true.

I am so so deeply touched by Brendan's singing and the beautiful music have me so completely so tenderly too i know this song and i love it but i have never heard it like this b4 i am in love mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm thank you so much hugs kisses love to you for this great version of this magic song
Assisté à un fabuleux concert de Brendan à Caen dans une petite salle, nous n'étions qu'un petit public composé en majeure partie de "vieux de la vieille '. Ce fut extraordinaire. Cette voix!
Saw them do this at Bimbos in SF last year and was just lost in it. Brendan sounded amazing-just like he did with DCD a few nights ago in Berkeley. Musical treasures, both of these guys.
I am truly amazed by your insightful and highly intellectual comment. I suppose with such an enormous IQ you rarely have time for writing such lengthy comments as you are probably busy inventing awesome things all the time, right? You sure are the coolest kid in town, respect!
Set adrift on shipless oceans I did all my best to smile 'Til your singing arms and fingers Drew me loving to your isle And you sang: "Sail to me, swim to me Let me enfold you Here I am, here I am Waiting to hold you" Did I dream you dreamed about me? Were you here when I was flotsam? Now my foolish boat is leaning Broken lovelorn on your rocks And you sing: "Touch me not, touch me not Come back tomorrow Oh my heart, oh my heart Shies from the sorrow" I'm as puzzled as the newborn child I'm as troubled as the tide Should I stand amidst the breakers? Should I lie with Death my bride? Hear me sing: "Sail to me, sail to me, Let me enfold you Oh my heart, oh my heart Shies from the sorrow"
This is a wonderful rendition of the song. He didn't, however, worry much about being spot on with the lyrics. That's okay, and I assume your lyric here is trying to be what he sang in this live version. If, however, you want the original lyrics I've put them below. The differences are many, but not significant in a live performance besides "Were you hare when I was fox" (hare and fox - not here and flotsam, people get that from This Mortal Coil being unclear), and "I am puzzled as the oyster." (yup, oyster. Buckley changed the original Beckett word, then later switched back to the original "oyster" lyric.) Song to the Siren
Long afloat on shipless oceans, I did all my best to smile till your singing eyes and fingers drew me loving to your isle, and you sang, Sail to me, sail to me, let me enfold you: here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you. Did I dream you dreamt about me? Were you hare when I was fox? Now my foolish boat is leaning broken, lovelorn, on your rocks, for you sing, Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow. Oh my heart, oh my heart, shies from the sorrow. I am puzzled as the oyster, I am troubled as the tide: should I stand amid the breakers? Should I lie with death my bride? Hear me sing, Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you: here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you.
Wow. Brendan Perry's looks have certainly changed. I still see him as he was during the Toward the Within shows. I could be standing right next to him now and would never have had any idea who it was... Brilliant as he's always been here.
Funny how depression leads you to depressing music and instead of making you more depressed it makes you feel understood...not alone.
I don't want to give away too much of my own situation, but I must say your remark is spot on.
Listening to beautiful (depressing, emotional) music indeed makes you feel understood, and not even more depressed.
There's apparently a scientific reason for that.
your comment makes me feel I might be past my depression stage after divorce. but then again I've always been in love with music. and this music piece [cover of a not very happy tune earlier performed by the divine Liz Frazer] sounds awesome and uplifting to me now. so yeah. Happy Songs or happy people...

My god, what a beautiful voice he has. I cannot think of anything more witty to say.
Can't say it's a special timbre or voice. But what he makes out of it, how he uses it, that makes it an outstanding beautiful voice.
His warm beautiful voice just wraps around me like a soft blanket 😊 💕
One of the best voices and the best composers I have ever seen. Brendan Perry and Dead Can Dance
No need to argue about this "Liz vs Brendan" stuff. Both versions are incredible and both bring their own inimitable style to the song. Fantastic song and I'm so glad I got to see Brendan and Robin perform it in Los Angeles. Can't wait for DCD!

Bonjour PhoneFixer13. Comme je vous comprends...
Prenez bien soin de vous..Alain
10 years ago, and still leaves me impressed today. What a voice.🎶👍🫶
This performance always cuts me deeply. Often I cry. It's so sad and beautiful.
For me the same
I love his soothing voice so much. He could read loud out of a telephone book and I would love it. It feels so warm and comfortable.
You should check him out in concert with Dead can dance. I caught the live performance in 2012 in Berkeley CA. Boy did they bring it. :) It's on UA-cam actually.

The way he vocalizes 'loving' at 0:57 is one supreme hint why his singing is so mesmerizing.
Ethereal and haunting. This may be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
10 years later, I Hope you're right. I don't know why, Your great soul, maybe.
So great to see Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins on guitar with Brendan Perry. The CTwins and DCD carried 4AD Records for years, and made a wonderful soundtrack to a decade of memories for me as well.

They went on tour actually around 2010. Robin opened for Brendan. Saw it at Bimbos in SF. Unbelievably great!!!
I can just feel Tim Smiling about this beautiful version. Still knocking it out of the park, Brendan..never get tired of that voice xx
I think I tear up EVERY time I listen to this...
There's no words to properly describe this...
get a female voice with Robin and its gold, NOT SANTA CLAUS!
@@maggam8080 If he was Santa, this world would had been a much better place!
probably the most beautiful song ever- so many fantastic versions [:
besides this one totally lost out of tempo lol
Hmm yes I don't know about most beautiful ever sometimes see my old UA-cam comments and reel a bit silly, it is a lovely song though and I think this version sounds great! Haven't heard one that I don't like though.
brendan perry's voice is just wonderful
Thank God I discovered KEXP live shows.
Simply brilliant. Two genius playing together, brendan perry and robin guthrie...touching the sky.
I just heard this live an hour ago...and...I'm...speechless
Not many Covers are better than the Originals, beautifull! Thanks!
In my top 5 absolute masterpiece songs ever !
Magnificient cover once again of BRENDAN . Voice that carries!
Well done, Brendan. (and your band). Giving the song the respect it needs, and adding some of your touches of brilliance.
Dead Can Dance + Cocteau Twins = GOLD
Même si c’est la voix de Liz Fraser qu’on entend dans l’original, ce morceau n’est pas de Cocteau Twins mais de This Mortal Coil
one of the most beautiful covers, indeed
This song helped me in my darkest hours! This song make me so much light, and it help to fight against the dark thoughts! Thank you Brendan for this wonderful positive song!
I LOVE HIS VOICE AND MUSIC
The best version EVER!!!
The guitar and keyboards on this cover are just stellar. Wow.
The moment I heard him the first time I was addicted.....Ones of the greatest..........
Love this: I didn't know Brendan had sung this before. Lovely.
His voice melts my heart.
OMG, he voice still haunts and excites me after all these years.....

MASTERPIECE!!!!!!
Pieśń do syreny
Na unoszących, bezkształtnych oceanach
Robiłem wszystko, by się uśmiechać
Aż twoje śpiewające oczy i palce
Przybliżyły mnie zakochanego do Twej wyspy
A Ty śpiewałaś:
„Żegluj do mnie, przypłyń do mnie
Pozwól mi wziąć Cię w ramiona
Oto jestem, oto jestem

„Przypłyń do mnie, przypłyń do mnie
Pozwól mi wziąć Cię w ramiona
Oto jestem, oto jestem
Czekam, by Cię objąć”
Beyond like, love or other nondescriptive words...touches my soul.

What a fantastic version!
This is just AWESOME!
I love Liz's version and have for years, but his is spectacular! I really really want to here Lisa Gerrard sing this.
Thanks for the substance you bring to the conversation.
