Fun fact: In the Digimon World Re:Digitize there's a character with a Numemon called Catherine, which is the same name as Kathryn in japanese. Digimon games are not really known for good translations to be honest. The Evil Ring and Culumon bits are references to anime plot points. First one being from 02 and second from Tamers. There's still some story bits in the post game, but they require you to do some especific side quests, so I recommend looking for a guide. Man, I miss when Digimon Main Characters spoke. At least we got that in Survive, for a change.
This game was the first isekai But seriously, the story was so much more better than Dusk/Dawn, I felt actual emotions for the characters and the side quests were actually really cool and we had an actual goal to work without just doing side quests! The digimon designs of the observers were soo cool as well. It still has the same problems such as clunky menu and unnecessarily long animations.
Like, playing lost evolution, they really started playing the NPC tropes, like people will act out of their way to inconvenience you fir the sake of increasing battles in a game, where in any story worth their money, would be solved by charisma, in-game decision making, n so on But no we get people getting massacred while MC is stuck in cutscene time stops
The only bad thing about Digimon as a whole is that. It doesn't make sense that a Calumon different that the one in Tamers should've the Power of Digievolution in terms of history but the Digimon Databook says that every single Calumon has that power, not just the one from Tamers. So,it's not a reference to Tamers. Alphamon stole Calumon powers because all Calumon has that power.
This video was great, from Kathryn, THE WONDERFUL EDITTING, the ptsd from dusk. It was a great video! it has been 9 days since upload and only has 920 views?!?! Criminal. I will be sharing this video with every digimon fan I know. This video needs to be seen.
The thing about Culumon is named Digi-Entelechy and is been part of it since culumons conception. That’s why Culumon can’t evolve but can help other digimon evolve
I only remember about 4 things about this game: -I didn't understand English back when I played this game when I was a kid, and had to brute force throught the spider boss with my starter digimon still in traning form because didn't know how to evolve it, it was a brutal stall battle - chronomon HM was still a brutal stall battle -didnt care about the advantage and disadvantages of the types (if there was it), so the final battle of the main story was a pain in the ass to deal with it - when I learned it, I abused so much of evolution system, I don't know if it was a glitch or not that you can increment Hp and mp cap when you evolve and devolve continously, but I evolved my dorugoramon (still my favorite digimon) to have 9999 Hp and about 3000mp I've also played the sequel (sun ver. If I'm not wrong), and felt disappointed because it was much shorter that I expected
Yeah Pretty sure Alphamon got mistranslated hard In the farm scene it makes more sense if he was expositing a plan to reset the digital world, the classic IT solution of turning it off and back on again, but Chronomon DM would actually Destroy it as in delete
Dusk was a childhood favorite of mine so I decided to finally play this game. It was for the most part great, but even with level 60 Mons I couldn’t beat the final boss. It’s really unfortunate the spike, cause it’s an otherwise good game
This game definitely has one of the best Digimon Game stories. It keeps you engaged and it's easy to understand whilst being complex with its characters.
When the digiworld is "destroyed" the server resets back to the beginning if i remember correctly. Off note there are some digimon that can straight up delete the digiworld
Thank you for doing this video! I've always loved digimon and english isn't my native language. When I was a child, I've beat this game following walkthroughs and never being able to understand any dialog, I just loved Digimon so much, their designs, music and everthing else. With this video I just realize that I never truly understood this game plot point, and I'm glad that years later I can! I really appreciated that! (Now I'm waiting for a Digimon World Championship video). DS Games are the best! Is so cool that people can enjoy this console and their games even if they can't read nothing on the screen. It's just accessible...
One thing that might be the reason why there are the same maps in the 3 digimon story for ds (even tough it might be just lazy) Is that DS, Dusk/Dawn and Lost Evolution all happen in the same universe. What do you think, is it just them being lazy or a nice reference? I don't really care I hate the ice map...
Nah,it's lazyness. Only DS has a Story worked with things like Pagumon story line. Dawn/Dusk and Lost Evolution feels totally empty and the protagonist don't even talk.
Played for the first time and finally finished last night. It was a huge grind, but it was worth it in the end i was op only taking 1 damage from the final boss. I really liked it. The final boss had such a cool design. Sucks, I wasn't able to get any eggs, though.
My save file got currupted after the final boss killed me so I never was able to properly beat this game. A shame because I remember it having great pacing and a good story with nice characters. And after watching this video I'm glad that I was right. I tried playing Dusk but I just couldn't. The grind required to advance is insane. The pacing and characters also suck. They introduce like 20 characters at once and expects you to remember them. Dawn is the one I actually managed to beat. I don't know why nor how though. Anyways, great video. You got a good amount of chuckles from me. Hope you get to do a video on the Cyber Sleuth series. A MAJOR improvement onver the Digimon DS RPGs formula imo.
This one and DW2 (hear me out) are my favourites of the series! I love how this one is just a 'not as' convoluted version of Dawn/Dusk, which I also enjoyed playing... man, that was 12~13 years ago, dang I'm old af. lmao And yeah, a speedhack is almost a necessity for these Digimon games to be enjoyed properly, especially nowadays at least in my opinion. There's so many games and so little time. Also I heavily dislike games that like to waste our time (looking at you Next Order) but thankfully there's always a way to speed things up so we can progress and have our fav Digis in our team and even getting new favourites too! Loving the reviews! Great job.
I love this game the first digimon game i finished because this time you can collect as many mons as possible not just using 1 digimon and actually an rpg with interesting story. Unlike some digimon games like Digimon World 4
I still have my cartridge plus a copy of dusk and dawn because I genuinely love those games. I mostly play them on my massive tablet via emu and really wish I could get an upscaling of the assets/artwork.
I replayed dusk recently however I knew what was ahead in terms of the gaia origin challenge. So thankfully I didn't get cooked. However I am hurt that at this point, there's basically no way to be able to do the final tournament :///
the grind might be due to how the game very poorly explains how the gains work, vs degenerate taking some stats away. I pretty sure both of them have it where you want to go far as you can that reasonable but not grindy, then degenerate as far down as possible before you digivolve them back up to speed. You do this by making sure that by the time the back ups are ready, your frontline is can go to the back and let the next up take over while waiting to get their stats back up. Its best done during the journey and not later or else yes, you'll end up needing to grind. If I remember correctly, this one is easy to do and dawn/dusk being a bit harder to do without grind but it is possible. Just making a note that its not your fault on how you played it, I sure most people will experience it the same way you have. As far as post game goes, at least by then, it shouldn't take too much more and there a bit of grind but its a bit understandable, its meant to be hard.
Good to see more people talk about these cool, if very flawed, games. Out of curiosity, are you going to check out the third game in this same style as well, Digimon Story: Lost Evolution? It didn't get an official English release, but there is an English patch.
"The grinding already doesn't feel great" I find the grinding gets easier and way more fun later on, especially when you start to utilize the EXP rings and Degeneration. Also, for anyone just starting out with this game, I recommend you digivolve at least a full team of three to rookie level before moving into the second field.
Absolutely back the decision to speed things up, playing on an emulator at the very min you gotta speed it up so the battles go quicker, towards the end of DS I was so tired of grinding I think I put a 2x or 4x exp multiplier just to finish ( I didn’t know about the demon lords)
Same! Not doing that might have been my biggest regret in this playthrough. It would’ve been great if the game said something like “You can now add Antylamon to your team!” after completing their storyline
@EchonoxYT you can, you get 100% scan for antylamon after you help antylamon out. Wish thus was clearer. Also calumon evolution thing is a tamers plotpoint
I love this pair of games. I totally get how the grinding can just be...to much. And I would love for these games to get a remake that just, fixed that. Like I like grinding more than most, but there's grinding and then there's multiple hours of brain rotting repetition. However I also think there's a charm to it. I remember teams I played Dusk with as a child, there's a sense of connection from spending that much time slowly grinding up the 'perfect' team just for you. It's a type of thing more linear games, Pokemon or Final Fantasy for instance, just can't capture. And I wouldn't want that lost entirely for convenience, sometimes a bit of push back IS good. So I do think there's a better medium here, a balance of investment without absurd time sinks. But even if these games don't reach those heights, I still love them.
Totally relate to you there. The time spent grinding is painful, but it's probably the reason I feel more attached to my team from my Digimon Dusk playthrough than my Digimon World DS Playthrough which I sped through.
@@EchonoxYT I'll point out I still distinctly remember my teenage team for Dusk, my main trio of GranKuwagamon, Dianamon, and Lilithmon.
