    Haha, that was totally cool, loved around 1:20 how quickly the mask can be put on with one hand. Yet another fun fact I have NOT seen on any other channel. Thanks for sharing Shaun. till next time: aviate, navigate, communicate, post when able. I think Captain Moonbeam has been offline for three months now? But hey, that's the corporate pilot life.

    Shaun. Hello from Liverpool, UK. I am a recent convert to your channel, found it by accident, but I'm ever so glad that I did. after a few vids, I made it my mission to visit all of your previous videos, and it has taken about 65 watches to get up to date. It has been a fantastic journey to watch and experience your trips and adventures. I am not aircrew, not for the lack of trying in my younger days, but that was the seventies, and it was much beyond me. However, I pride myself on being extremely knowledgable on aviation matters, and I have had a varied list of aircraft I have flown in, including Chipmunk, Wessex Chinook Dominie, Jetstream, DC-8, 707, 767, A320/1, A380 etc.
    Thank you for sharing your professional lives with us, and please keep up the good work.
    Kind regards, Ian.

    Shawn, you have that professional demeanor that makes people feel safe as your passengers. These tech video's that you put together are really interesting to watch to. You and John are a dynamic duo when it comes to flying these complicated jet's. The dance that you and John do seem's to be so effortless, but we all know that it's anything but effortless. I really look forward to watching each new video you guy's post. Please keep them coming!

    Hi Guys, came across your videos a couple of weeks ago and am working my way through them. Real interesting work! Enjoying them and learning a lot too. Cheers for that. A couple of requests would be to see you start the aircraft up from cold and dark to engine start, and to explain how you land on ILS. I watched your Prague into Dublin video last night. That would have scared the crap out of me, seeing nothing but cloud below and knowing there was a runway under there somewhere. Total trust in the technology. Many thanks, Dave, in the UK, twenty miles from Oxford city.

    If you're doing comms with the mask I imagine ATC and everyone else can tell you're wearing one.

    Sean (Shaun, Shawn - not sure which is correct. I see all three spellings). Really enjoy the videos. Great job. I do have a question. I notice that you always deploy your flaps for takeoff. Is that because the runways you use aren’t long enough for a flaps-up takeoff? When I was learning to fly the Cessna 172, we would deploy the flaps on takeoff only for short field situations. Again, great job on the videos.

    Because it’s an FAQ here in the comments here’s the skinny
    FAR 91.211 says among other unrelated things
    .... the one pilot need not wear and use an oxygen mask while at or below flight level 410 if there are two pilots at the controls and each pilot has a quick-donning type of oxygen mask that can be placed on the face with one hand from the ready position within 5 seconds, supplying oxygen and properly secured and sealed.
    (2) Notwithstanding paragraph (b)(1)(ii) of this section, if for any reason at any time it is necessary for one pilot to leave the controls of the aircraft when operating at flight altitudes above flight level 350, the remaining pilot at the controls shall put on and use an oxygen mask until the
    other pilot has returned to that crewmember's station.

      Lots. Most of the newer generation flight management systems, if the crew do not react after a cabin depressurization, will automatically descend the aircraft, turn it 90 degrees off the airway, and then level off, typically around 14,000 feet or dependent upon MEA/MDA. Great boon for even some turboprops out there, not just commercial aviation.

    The mask looks made out of a hard plastic. Doesn't it have the two soft spots around the nose for the valsalva maneuver?

    Are you required to wear it any time other then in an emergency?

    Is that just compressed air or real oxygen?

      William Savage:

      At 12:30 Shaun explains - and complains about - the mask requirement. The mic is muffled and the airflow is LOUD

    Interesting, appreciate you have to live a private life, so weekly blogs are not important. Do you know why this system was not used when the golfer ( Curtis Strange?) pilots failed to engage the system?

      I think Payne Stewart is the one you are thinking about. I don't know all the details of that one, but my understanding is that the main oxygen valve for the Lear is on the outside of the plane, and was never turned on before flight. So even if they did put the masks on, no oxygen was coming out

    Love these tech videos...what about high altitudes? When does one pilot have to wear a mask? 41k?

    • @judd_s5643
      @judd_s5643 6 років тому

      I believe every time one of them leaves the cockpit.

      91.211 says. As long as a quick donning mask is available. under 41k but above 35k a pilot only needs to wear a mask if the other pilot leaves. But over 41k this becomes an all the time requirement, one pilot must wear the mask

    Do you carry enough oxygen to fly at nearly 45000 feet for a full 8-9 hrs?

      @CorporatePilotLife  6 років тому

      Definitely not. The more passengers using it, the less time we have though

      Can a corporate jet be retrofitted to accommodate 1 pilot wearing oxygen for long trips consistently at altitudes above 41000 feet?
