Shaun. Hello from Liverpool, UK. I am a recent convert to your channel, found it by accident, but I'm ever so glad that I did. after a few vids, I made it my mission to visit all of your previous videos, and it has taken about 65 watches to get up to date. It has been a fantastic journey to watch and experience your trips and adventures. Shawn, you have that professional demeanor that makes people feel safe as your passengers. These tech video's that you put together are really interesting to watch to. You and John are a dynamic duo when it comes to flying these complicated jet's. The dance that you and John do seem's to be so effortless, but we all know that it's anything but effortless. I really look forward to watching each new video you guy's post. Please keep them coming!
Hi Guys, came across your videos a couple of weeks ago and am working my way through them. Real interesting work! Enjoying them and learning a lot too. Cheers for that. In a video to Vegas you had to wear your mask because you were above 40k ft. and Jon was using the normal headset. Is that standard regulation from the FAA that one has to be on o2 above a certain altitude?
For every test is it using oxygen out of the bottle? If you test it every flight how often do you have to change or refill bottles? Awesome vid Shaun always a good day to see these pop up in my inbox.
Because it’s an FAQ here in the comments here’s the skinny FAR 91.211 says among other unrelated things .... the one pilot need not wear and use an oxygen mask while at or below flight level 410 if there are two pilots at the controls and each pilot has a quick-donning type of oxygen mask that can be placed on the face with one hand from the ready position within 5 seconds, supplying oxygen and properly secured and sealed. (2) Notwithstanding paragraph (b)(1)(ii) of this section, if for any reason at any time it is necessary for one pilot to leave the controls of the aircraft when operating at flight altitudes above flight level 350, the remaining pilot at the controls shall put on and use an oxygen mask until the other pilot has returned to that crewmember's station. You had to wear it for one of your long haul flights. Is it federal law or company rule that at least one of you wear it once passing a certain altitude or something? Whats the service ceiling on the G4?
Lots. Most of the newer generation flight management systems, if the crew do not react after a cabin depressurization, will automatically descend the aircraft, turn it 90 degrees off the airway, and then level off, typically around 14,000 feet or dependent upon MEA/MDA. Great boon for even some turboprops out there, not just commercial aviation.
@@buckbuchanan5849 Thanks Buck, great info. It is said that "IF" Payne's flight crew had them and used them, it would have been nothing for them to descend and save the crew and aircraft.
