This is how I explain asexuality to people who don’t know: Imagine you have three blocks and each block is a different color. Non-ace people will like all the colors and take all the blocks while ace people may only pick up one or two or sometimes not even want a block. Others may not like the color right now, but might pick up a block or two in the future. Some people may like the color but not want the block. Asexuality is a spectrum of identities so not everyone will have the same reaction to the blocks.

I usually give a much simpler one when people really don’t get the difference between asexuality and sex drive, What I say is I address the person I’m talking to directly (like a straight girl) and I put them in this situation. “So imagine you have a really high sex drive. You might really want to have sex at the moment. But no matter how horny you are, you will never want to sleep with a woman. It’s simply not fun or appealing because you aren’t attracted to women. Now imagine that’s how you feel about everyone. Literally all people.”

If you say you’re ace, then you are. If you change your mind later, you weren’t faking it when you said you were ace. (If you genuinely thought you were, it wasn’t faking.) Your label is what you say it is. It’s not anyone else’s choice, and no one can tell you that you’re lying.
Being asexual is about having little to no sexual attraction. One of our main mottos in the Ace community is attraction does not equal action (or some variation of that 😅). If you don't feel attracted to somebody in that way, but you end up doing it because, idk, you were curious or something, and you liked it because it felt good or it made you feel close emotionally to the other person, then you would be considered a sex-favorable asexual. It's just a way of excusing their behavior as "I didn't mean to have intercourse with that person" when in reality they mean "I regret doing it" but instead of just apologizing, they try to play it off as an "accident." Okay so imo it really depends. Typically allosexuals start to feel sexual attraction around the age of 13-16, but it is possible your cousin is ace. I had an idea that I was ace when I was 12, but I avoided labeling myself (even if it was just internally) until I was almost 17, because I knew I would doubt myself if I did it sooner (and I still do even now 😂), and even after I knew I was ace, I haven’t told anyone in my family yet because I’m sure I might get the “you’re just to young” that we all probably get at some point. So, it is possible that your cousin is ace, and it is fine if zey label themselves as such. Heck, I had an inkling that I was ace when I was 12, though I waited to internally choose a label until I passed that threshold of 13-16 (when allos usually feel attraction).
