In the first couple of years, Phyllis Garr was in charge of the That Girl costumes. The two design houses that provided Marlo's wardrobe were Cardinali, and then Werle. Phyllis Garr is Terri Garr's mother. Terri had a few small parts on That Girl.
Love seeing Marlo’s wardrobe on That Girl. Since my dad didn’t let me dress too mod when I was a teen, I was able to dress like Ann Marie and still get compliments on my dress. My homemaking teacher and a few other teachers complimented me on my NEW YORK style of dress, thanks to That Girl. ❤🙏🌟🌹
@@gardenvape4021 Funny that that is the only thing mentioned when her name comes up. She did a lot of other things from being the mother in Those Whiting Girls to her role in What's Up Doc and much more.

Ann changes her dress, again, to go meet Donald at Sol's Delicatessen. Donald has milk to drink, with a corned beef sandwich. For goodness sakes. My stomach got so queasy. It should be illegal to offer milk to drink in a deli. Yuck!!
Marlo Thomas said in an interview that both Bill Bixby and Charles Grodin were considered for Don, untill Ted Bessell was finally offered the part (Bill Bixby later guested as a weirdo friend of Don on That Girl)
My father, who died about a month ago, was an executive with ABC-TV, mostly involved in daytime programming, when this show hit the air. He played a role in getting ABC to promote this show, and him and my mother actually had dinner with Marlo Thomas (whereupon she told my mom that she reminded her of Mary Tyler Moore). Ironically, my late dad was fired from ABC, some time after he attended a cocktail party with Danny Thomas. The reason: The top brass at ABC complained that he was programming too many soap operas!
Hi. Sorry to hear about your father, my deepest sympathies, and condolences. However, your father was right, there's no such thing as too many soap operas. We can never have enough soaps. 🧓☮️🖖
Steve Franken, who plays Dr Alden in the soap opera, later played Jonas, boyfriend of Rhoda Morgenstern in the Mary Tyler Moore Show (season 3). I always thought they should have developed his character and kept him on as Rhoda's boyfriend. He was a lot more suitable to her than that jerk Joe she eventually married in her own series (he had no sense of humor, and they seemed to think that him yelling all the time equated with sexual attractiveness).
Mrs. Hollinger was about to get a "sick headache", much like Mrs. Stephens gets on Bewitched. Both interfering, overbearing mothers, played expertly by Mabel Albertson.
For Anne wanting to be so independent she sure does "borrow" money and the car a lot from Don- lol - but I love how he's always willing to help her out. Don's a great boyfriend...Haven't heard the name 'washing machine' used in a long time, most just say 'washer' these days

Mabel Albertson, you mean. Also the sister of Jack Albertson, who was The Man, in the early 1970's sitcom, Chico And The Man. Chico was played by Freddie Prinze (the father of Freddie Prinze Junior), who died accidentally in a gun accident, at a very young age. He might not even have been thirty years old. File this one under strange show business connections. Jack Albertson also played Charlie Bucket's grandfather, in the original movie, "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

For someone who is often broke, she sure has alot of nice clothes and often shops. If Don didn't take her out she probably wouldn't have a meal. I'd hate to wear those big false lashes she wears, (even to bed). Don was cute. I always thought Ann was alot prettier than Laura Petrie. Of Ann, her squeaky voice and wired enthusiasm gets on my nerves, but the show is funny. I watched it new, as a kid, every year it was on.
michellepost3098- I think Marlo Thomas is a lot prettier than Mary Tyler Moore too. Laura Petrie’s “Oh Rob” and her acting in sitcoms never appealed to me. She always seemed nervous & jittery. I only watched the episodes of MTM show with Valerie Harper in them. I like That Girl a lot more for sure. 👍😉
Such good funny entertainment ! 😊
I just love Marlo's wardrobe.

Marvelous acting by Marlo Thomas. She is terrific. This episode was entertaining.
Love being in Ann’s life just for half an hour
Ted Bessell was a good kisser. Check out the scene with Donald and Anne in the laundry room. You can't teach that in acting school. Aaahhh.
Oh la la !
He was also gay.
Donald's mother is Mrs Stevens from Bewitched.
…and Howard Sprague’s mother on The Andy Griffith Show
She was so funny in the movie What's up Doc.

In whatever show she was in, she always played the mother-in-law (or other relative) you couldn't stand.

He also hosted “Starcade”, an early to mid 80s game show that featured contestants playing the most popular arcade games of the time.
Those washing machines put me in memory of my college days and doing laundry!!!!
They were so good at acting, they appeared to really loved each other.
I watched this growing up I was about 16 yrs old a teen.. glad to see this again
A bit of trivia: Mabel Albertson was the sister of Jack Albertson who played "The Man" on Chico and The Man (amongst other things).
Brings back nice memories.
Don has been really affectionate towards Anne in this episode with the hugs and the kisses. I felt that hug at 23:33 ❤
Randall is my nickname. Loved hearing it in this episode. My dad starting calling me that, and some of my friends did, too.
Mrs Hollinger "I'm going to get a sick "headache." 😂
Shades of Phyllis Stephens, Darrin's mother on Bewitched. Overbearing, neurotic, and judgmental. Mabel Albertson.
Yes!
Donald and Darrin must be brothers: they have the same mother.
The actor playing the alcoholic tv star was utterly hillarious!
Here comes Mabel Albertson, in all her overbearing glory, again, as Donald's mother. She is starting to grow on me.
Ann changes her dress, again, to go meet Donald at Sol's Delicatessen. Donald has milk to drink, with a corned beef sandwich. For goodness sakes. My stomach got so queasy. It should be illegal to offer milk to drink in a deli. Yuck!!
Kurt Kasznar, as Dr. Randall, was adorable. He was also in the wonderful movie "Lili," with Leslie Caron, and Mel Ferrer.
I’m so proud of YOU!

Great episode! Thanks for posting That Girl ❤
Great episode. Ann made Sheila terrible but the real witch is Don's mom. Luckily Don is more lie his dad.
His mom is plain rude.
Never thought I would see Samantha's (Bewitched) Mom here!
Darrin's mother. Endora (Agnes Moorehead) was Samantha's mother,

Guy who kissed Ann Steve Franken (Bruce) was on a Bewitched episode about the loch Ness monster he also played a character named Bruce.
That black scoop neck dress ,gorgeous on her
I loved the one Don's mother was wearing. So elegant, especially with the multi strand necklace.

@Moroccanrose21 Lou was an overprotective but good dad. Personally I wouldn't go so far as to say he was sweet 🙅🏾♀️- lol.

Talk about type casting, has Mabel Anderson ever played anything else besides the overbearing mother in law?

Who drinks milk with a corned beef sandwich? Donald Hollinger. Blech!!
The soap opera scenes remind me of Megan from Mad Men. I would bet Matt Weiner watched That Girl in reruns when he was a kid.
Is that a camera that slides by (from left to right) when Donald takes the deli tray, and he and Ann sit down at a table at the deli?
I remember Jeff Edwards so whatever happened to him?❤
Simpler times. When milk and a sandwich was a date.
Mabel Albertson (Mrs. Hollinger) was Cloris Leachman's real-life mother-in-law for a time. I wonder how they got along together.
❤😊
One of the best episodes of the series. But, milk with a corned beef sandwich at the deli?? Yuck!!
Mothers and their Sons
The mother Darrin too ! Bewichted !jeje

Never cared for Donald's mother!!!!!
