"Agrotherapy" sums up how I feel when gardening and raising chicks. What a great idea.
"You're never closer to God than when your hands are in the dirt."
There are a lot of black farmers. I've learned so much from some of them. I'm a city girl. They aren't any different than any other race. You just don't see them in the media as much.
I agree. I love that idea. humans are at their worst in a city and best playing in the soil as we are meant to do.
Hi Mike you have a beautiful family. I love how y'all are getting the children involved with what you are doing.
So much amazing info packed into this video. Love to see black farmers' stories being shared.
Love love love this. Bless all of you. This is so beautiful. Thankyou.
Thank you for feeding us and taking care of our planet !
Great video, sir. As a farmer, I'm glad to see the trade making a comeback with so many folks. It's truly an amazing life, and when people get started in it, they don't know how they lived without it. I never dread waking up a single day. While it's hard work with trials, nothing is more rewarding or enjoyable to me. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Lamb, Hogget, Mutton CONVERSATION HAD ME SOLLLLLLD! WOWWWWW! HOW HE BROKE DOWN THE TERROIR & THE DUAL PURPOSED DETAILS & UTILIZATION DETAILS .........MUAH! CHEF'S KISS! BROTHER DROPPING KNOWLEDGE! MADDDDDDDDDDDDD RESPECT!
I wish I lived closer. Jon would have a volunteer every day. I am not a vet; I have PTSD and hidden disabilities. I would be in hog heaven volunteering on his farm. Jon thank you for your service and everything you are doing. God bless you.
I am trying to start a community garden company for neuro atypical people, ptsd, etc., in the Tallahassee FL area, but I will consider Southern AL, GA and top half of FL for the location. I am searching for the acreage this month.

What a wonderful job John has done with his property 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸Thank you for your service John serving our America 🙏🙏🙏
Gardening and chicken keeping has helped me tremendously with my PTSD.
I also take care of my Mom who has advanced dementia and is non-ambulatory.
When I am in my garden that is my focus and I am ‘in the moment’. It’s worked way better than talk therapy ever did!
I love your family and channel! Thank you
♥️👍🙏🇺🇸🤓
Yeah, talk therapy for me mostly just drags me down because it's reliving it. Whichever it is being discussed.
@@mamamode1312 the psych industry has known that talk therapy actually causes more harm for over 30 years.
Thank you for your service. I love watching the bees that come to harvest my flowers 💐!Very good for the soul.
That picture of him with the hogs was totally epic.
‘Get outta here by 1:30 and go drink beer.’ Lemme come work on this farm 😂😂
Man I got to tell you, I really enjoy your spirit and attitude. You really hit a mix of information and personality and really capture the heart behind the American farmer. Kudos.
Boy those kids are really smart. They could read their dads mind! Your kids are so helpful. Micah isn't little any more. All good workers
Hi , you people are really doing a lot , it's so lovely to see you all caring for each other, in city we are just to our selves and so stressed out , may the almighty bless you all 🙏😘👍
It really is a nice thing to work with animals, watching them graze, working the land. A calming thing for ptsd veterans for sure. Thanks! 😊
Wow, TIL about Gulf Coast Sheep. Makes me happy to know that the breed is being preserved. Heirloom breeds are just better. Also, having worked with veterans over many years, it warms my heart to see you share your resources with them, providing a nurturing outlet for them to enhance their emotional and physical health. Kudos to Comfort Farm!
You guys need some help? I’m a vet and have experience farming. I like what you’re going and and how you’re doing it. Willing to help.
I might haha
I love it!! I have chickens and I'm starting 2 big gardens with my 9 year old daughter and my 10 year old daughter! Best feeling in the world. We are making chicken runs so they can clean the gardens without pulling the good plants!
Hello, I love seeing the children helping they are really enjoying and learning. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
what people do not realize is==with PTSD you may not have gone to war or carried a gun but due to horrible things like abuse , murder, rape and lots more you also can have PTSD and not know it......we all are in it together and finding strength from the dear Lord and each other makes us go on. God bless.
Janet, very well said.
First hand experience with PTSD my first husband was nam vet infantry and he had PTSD and I grew up with some forms of abuse and later experienced violence as a teen from outside the family so I had my war and still do, that I fight every day of my life and now, he passed in 2005, my husband is finally at peace with his wars...
This video has given me a little more insight into how Sheep vs goats needs are..... thank you John for your service and all who have and are still doing so! God bless all 😊
very true.
Great seeming fathers and kids working together
MIKE, i too am a ARMY vet that suffered to many T.B.I.`s, then when i went to NEW MEXICO i suffered 4 widow maker heart attacks and a stroke! i get comfort from watching and being around live stock, i have to say that there is some thing bout sheep that are comforting to me! in the next year or so i`ll be getting my very own sheep to start my place out with!!

What a wonderful company name: CudCrew! The service they provide is so unique and creative. TFS! He should start a UA-cam channel of his own. I’d definitely subscribe.
I am so thankfull for their service (and yours), and proud of their accomplishment on the Comfort Farm. We will be watching the farm's movie this evening. What a powerful humanitarian concept and "passing it forward!" you have set for others to follow by example. Watching this video I long for my younger days when I was able to establish a like minded farm for single mom's. God Bless you and your flocks, both creature and human!
God Bless the work you do and the help for our Service folks.
Mr Dickson you are a very humble man and you humble yourself around others!! That is a great quality
And he always has words of inspiration

Mike, I've been watching you a year. So impressed with your humility & deep reflection. Sir, you're a wise man. Someone I'd wanna call a friend.

Nice looking sheep, the fleece will be handy. Blueberries should grow nicely under the trees once you start planting that area.

Okay, a lump in throat is a blessing and comfort indeed. Lovely project and really wow photo with Mr and the piggies.
I remember watching a 'Geographical' channel years ago about a bear club who had lost it's Mother and was following his Dad I believe, somewhere in the country. He was set upon by a 'Mountain Lion' or a 'Cougar' and that poor BOO yelled at that enemy with all it's heart!
And then suddenly, the Cat ran away and the camera 'panned' to a Male Grisley (this club's Dad) standing on it's hind legs behind the Cub and who had 'growled' the same time time the club did. That Cub, I'm sure at least 'wondered' whether HE SCARED the Cat away but we all knew it was 'DAD'! That scene brings me to tears even when I think of it.
*The scene where you pulled up the stack for Mika (without his knowing it) reminded me of that scene... WAY TO GO DAD!* Be blessed!!!
Good job. And thank you for your service to our country.
Hey Guys ! Great Stuff Here. Thanks Ever So Much ! Have at it !
Love our sheep to help clear brush. Save work and they love eating things down.
Thank you for your service God bless you
I enjoy your informative vlog and am glad to see a man with his family showing by doing .
You can tell he loves what he does!
This is powerful! I have like 6 vets in my family. Thank you for bringing this to us for viewing. We have lost too many Black farmers. Much success to John and the vets connected with the farm!
I’m a Bible believer missionary and read in my Bible about Jesus being the good shepherd and saved people are the sheep! I very much appreciate this video and all the parallels I’ve learned about the life of sheep! Especially Mark’s plug for sheep about being 1/2 the trouble of a goat! Am so excited about this and very thankful to have found your channel! Also, I’m also a vet! Air Force 1987-1995. God bless y’all!
Many people remark that sheep are not very smart. Sheep must spend most of the daylight hours eating low value vegetation. Sheep are smart enough to know what they need to know.
A sheep is an animal that carries its house on its back. As long as the wool has lanolin, sheep can get wet and not be too badly affected by the rain.
Being naturally high dwelling animals - for protection sheep would climb hills, domesticated sheep on the grasslands need human protection just as Christian believers need protection by Jesus. Christians will also dwell on high when they leave this earth. But, when the predators have been removed from the earth, the Christians believers are coming back to the earth! The earth will be the planet of the sheep.
"Every valley shall be lifted up,
and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain." *Isaiah 40:4-5*

Y'all were SOOOO close to us!!! Thank you for featuring Jon and Comfort Farms!!! He's really doing wonderful things for some of our Heros!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Mike and Lacey you should see if Mark could let a few of those great vets come over to your farm to see and help you on your farm. They would see how it is done on a smaller scale. Give them a purpose to do their own farms.
With all the beautiful pine he has there he might consider getting a saw mill to harvest them with the price of lumber right now it would be very cost effective
11-27-20,that little boy 👦 with the blue shirt was pretty strong pulling out those fence pipes, a good 👍 little helper.
To all the veterans I want to thank you for your service.

Lots of us are working on that for sure!!
Thank for another video showcasing Comfort Farms. I'll be heading over there soon for some farm thearpy.

That was so cool! You totally changed my mind about, and opened my mind to the greater possibilities with sheep... It all depends on the breed! Thank you. Blessings!
What a beautiful farm!
Thank you for identifying the type of sheep and their benefits...they are beautiful!

RE: permanent vs. mobile fencing: Both Greg Judy and Joel Salatin would advise that guy to make sure he has a strong perimeter fence, but stick with the portable fence for building making paddocks and controlling the critters. Needs and circumstances change, and the portable fence gives the flexibility to react to those changes.
I agree! Perimeter fencing should be permanent and strong, and tall. A division fence can be permanent. But the rest really should be temporary. Depending on the season the grasses grow at different speeds so a paddock as you call it (I call it a pasture) could be smaller and still accomandate the size of your herd bcuz its mid spring and the grass is growing fast. But in late fall the grasses are growing very, very slow so you may need a double (pasture) paddock. Its hard to expand a permanent fenced paddock (pasture).
A sheep is a grazer, not a browser. Goats are great for overgrown/ brushy areas. They eat brush & small trees. Whereas the sheep will only eat the grasses & tender vines.
Goats only respect tall, tight, electric fencing. Premier 1 has goat fencing. And it does keep them in very well. They can be moved easily from pasture to pasture area the same as sheep. So if your area is grassy I would go with sheep. If its more tiny trees, brambles, not much grass, go with the goats first. Let them clear that land for you. Buy young goat in the spring. Let them clean up the area. Sell in the fall for a good price, that cost you nothing to achieve. But gave back a wonderful pasture area to bring your sheep home too in the spring. All the hard work is done for you. You have all the underbrush cleared, poison- ivey, sumac, and oak eaten out, all the baby trees that will trip you as you walk. Then come into this cleared land to fell all the large trees you want out. And after wood hauling, and clean up, seed for the following spring for your sheep to come in and graze the grasses. Best of all worlds and a big variety of manures going down to help the value of the soil. Meat for the freezer and animals to sell.
Wow!! Great video. Thank you to all our vets!! Thank you Jon for what you are doing on your farm.
I met both of you at Baker creek, like and admire you both, cool to see you to together
What a great surprise, I live in middle Ga also, Warner Robins/Byron area. Macon is only about 20 to 30 minutes north of me. 😊 Didnt catch where the farm they are at was though..What a wonderful thing to do for vets!! (and the land) Well done!

Mike, I always love watching you and your family in these videos. I learn so much. My daughter, who has autism, loves watching you as well. It's something about your voice that she is drawn to. Blessings to you and your sweet family.
Hey, Mike, look up Moringa. Purslane too. These are high nutrient sources. He could grow them and let the critters eat right off the trees. God made this tree for all of us. What we need is all around most of us, and waiting. Keep going.
That fencing is excellent! Premiere one 👍🏽

Cud Crew! YESSSSSSSSSSS! Yesssssssssssssss JOHN!
Comfort Farms is awesome. 👏🏾 👏🏾
I also have the double spikes from premier 1 and I agree not really worth it. My main 2 complaints is: 1 the fence panels are shorter by about 2 feet per panel meaning you lose around 20 to 30 feet of fence for the same price. 2 they dont seem to provide much stability because the fence post bends right above the top of the steel shank. The one good thing is you can get a real tight fence by putting the post at an angle touching the first spike to the ground as a fulcrum then bringing the post up so the second spike is parallel to the fence line which twists the fence at the top so it won't slide back and forth. However I dont like that the single spike dont have a step in tab. If they had the double spike fences that were full length for like 20 or 30 more than the shorter double spike I might get it but if I have to replace it in the future I probably wont get it again.
Thank you. You are an inspiration.
07:48 every single sheep is watching them putting up the lane, in anticipation...
Beautiful to see.
My eyes are open but, I am light years behind and waiting now to find a parcel of my own and Stewart.....

Sheep doing the work of goats. That is really neat, I love it. And Jon's farm is perfect size, 20-40 acres with pigs, sheep, turkeys, chickens, geese, etc. is ideal. Nothing but huge praise for Jon and Comfort Farms, and we need more black/minority operated farms and FAR less of the industrial, corporate farms.
Nice farm John
