    Great video, sir. As a farmer, I'm glad to see the trade making a comeback with so many folks. It's truly an amazing life, and when people get started in it, they don't know how they lived without it. I never dread waking up a single day. While it's hard work with trials, nothing is more rewarding or enjoyable to me. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

    I remember watching a 'Geographical' channel years ago about a bear club who had lost it's Mother and was following his Dad I believe, somewhere in the country. He was set upon by a 'Mountain Lion' or a 'Cougar' and that poor BOO yelled at that enemy with all it's heart!
    And then suddenly, the Cat ran away and the camera 'panned' to a Male Grisley (this club's Dad) standing on it's hind legs behind the Cub and who had 'growled' the same time time the club did. That Cub, I'm sure at least 'wondered' whether HE SCARED the Cat away but we all knew it was 'DAD'! That scene brings me to tears even when I think of it.
    *The scene where you pulled up the stack for Mika (without his knowing it) reminded me of that scene... WAY TO GO DAD!* Be blessed!!!

      Many people remark that sheep are not very smart. Sheep must spend most of the daylight hours eating low value vegetation. Sheep are smart enough to know what they need to know.
      A sheep is an animal that carries its house on its back. As long as the wool has lanolin, sheep can get wet and not be too badly affected by the rain.
      Being naturally high dwelling animals - for protection sheep would climb hills, domesticated sheep on the grasslands need human protection just as Christian believers need protection by Jesus. Christians will also dwell on high when they leave this earth. But, when the predators have been removed from the earth, the Christians believers are coming back to the earth! The earth will be the planet of the sheep.
      "Every valley shall be lifted up,
      and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain." *Isaiah 40:4-5*

    RE: permanent vs. mobile fencing: Both Greg Judy and Joel Salatin would advise that guy to make sure he has a strong perimeter fence, but stick with the portable fence for building making paddocks and controlling the critters. Needs and circumstances change, and the portable fence gives the flexibility to react to those changes.

    • @denisewilson8367
      @denisewilson8367 3 роки тому

      I agree! Perimeter fencing should be permanent and strong, and tall. A division fence can be permanent. But the rest really should be temporary. Depending on the season the grasses grow at different speeds so a paddock as you call it (I call it a pasture) could be smaller and still accomandate the size of your herd bcuz its mid spring and the grass is growing fast. But in late fall the grasses are growing very, very slow so you may need a double (pasture) paddock. Its hard to expand a permanent fenced paddock (pasture).
      A sheep is a grazer, not a browser. Goats are great for overgrown/ brushy areas. They eat brush & small trees. Whereas the sheep will only eat the grasses & tender vines.
      Goats only respect tall, tight, electric fencing. Premier 1 has goat fencing. And it does keep them in very well. They can be moved easily from pasture to pasture area the same as sheep. So if your area is grassy I would go with sheep. If its more tiny trees, brambles, not much grass, go with the goats first. Let them clear that land for you. Buy young goat in the spring. Let them clean up the area. Sell in the fall for a good price, that cost you nothing to achieve. But gave back a wonderful pasture area to bring your sheep home too in the spring. All the hard work is done for you. You have all the underbrush cleared, poison- ivey, sumac, and oak eaten out, all the baby trees that will trip you as you walk. Then come into this cleared land to fell all the large trees you want out. And after wood hauling, and clean up, seed for the following spring for your sheep to come in and graze the grasses. Best of all worlds and a big variety of manures going down to help the value of the soil. Meat for the freezer and animals to sell.

    Mike, I always love watching you and your family in these videos. I learn so much. My daughter, who has autism, loves watching you as well. It's something about your voice that she is drawn to. Blessings to you and your sweet family.

    Hey, Mike, look up Moringa. Purslane too. These are high nutrient sources. He could grow them and let the critters eat right off the trees. God made this tree for all of us. What we need is all around most of us, and waiting. Keep going.

    I also have the double spikes from premier 1 and I agree not really worth it. My main 2 complaints is: 1 the fence panels are shorter by about 2 feet per panel meaning you lose around 20 to 30 feet of fence for the same price. 2 they dont seem to provide much stability because the fence post bends right above the top of the steel shank. The one good thing is you can get a real tight fence by putting the post at an angle touching the first spike to the ground as a fulcrum then bringing the post up so the second spike is parallel to the fence line which twists the fence at the top so it won't slide back and forth. However I dont like that the single spike dont have a step in tab. If they had the double spike fences that were full length for like 20 or 30 more than the shorter double spike I might get it but if I have to replace it in the future I probably wont get it again.

    Sheep doing the work of goats. That is really neat, I love it. And Jon's farm is perfect size, 20-40 acres with pigs, sheep, turkeys, chickens, geese, etc. is ideal. Nothing but huge praise for Jon and Comfort Farms, and we need more black/minority operated farms and FAR less of the industrial, corporate farms.
