      They are not dismissing the missing 6 workers but this is a huge deal. There are container ships in the Harbor that can not leave, there are 100’s of container ships in the Bay heading towards Baltimore. The bridge is damaged immensely , it will be years before they will be finished repairing.
      You must watch too much fantasy and not enough reality.

    So sad for the crew and their families but also for the ships crew as well, they seem like they were trying their best with no hope at all. Even dropping an anchor that had no hope of working but they tried it anyway. As for people saying why didn't they do this or why didn't the police let the crew on the bridge know. It was 1:30am in the morning with a massive ship with no lights on with a notice of 90 seconds. They are men and women not supermen/superwomen. Common sense wouldn't go a miss.
    RIP to the lost. 💜💜💜💜💜💜

      According to the surveillance video there where 4 minutes between the first loss of power of the ship and the collapse of the bridge.
      I'm marvelling at the transportation officials who were able to stop all traffic over the bridge in time. You can see in the video that the last moving car left the bridge 34 seconds before the ship hit the pylon.

      You can warn them all you want. It is in human's nature to just stand there and watch, not to run away. You see this everywhere. People don't run away when a tsunami is approaching, no matter how much the police are shouting in megaphones. They run towards the water to see what is happening, maybe take a few selfies.

    The last thing in the world that happens when you lose your electric plant is silence. On the bridge of a ship there can be dozens and dozens of alarms that go off when you lose power because everything has a small battery back up. Believe me I know this from when my generator blew up on a container ship.

      They're not heroes. If that's the case the person who called for "mayday mayday" is a hero. The police dispatch is a hero. The officer(s) on duty was GIVEN an order to stop traffic at the bridge. It's not like that the officer took the opportunity upon himself without receiving any orders to stop traffic because he seen what was about to happen. I'm tired of these people throwing these exalting terms around to make them look good and to receive sympathy/virtual pats on their backs.

    • @jimbobeire
      @jimbobeire Місяць тому +1

      Why is that so hard to understand?
      The bridge is over a mile long and there was only 90 seconds between the mayday call and impact. There are tolls, and truck weighing stations at either end, so usually at least one cop car is there. Stopping more traffic coming onto the bridge is not difficult. The traffic already on the bridge just kept moving, unaware of the problem.
      The construction crew probably didn't know there was a problem until they felt the impact of the ship shaking the bridge.
      If they had more time, cops probably would have been on the radio to that crew and told them to leave, but there just wasn't time.

      I don't know how long it took the crew to send the first mayday. The first power outtage lasted until 1:25:33 EDT. The last car entered the bridge at 1:27:26 EDT and left it at 1:28:10 EDT.

    Security cameras all over including approaches to the bridge, direct contracts for people who were making repairs and this should have only taken minutes to find out by the authorities who are on the ball. clearly something is missing just in gathering basic information. everyone on the work crew should have been accounted for and every car that went up the bridge from both sides and knowing the time stamp the video should have been reviewed within an hour of the police and rescue workers arriving. the working time for someone in the water is less than 30 min. so after 2 hours it should have become a recovery and not a rescue. Again, this shows incompetency on the part of both authorities and rescue workers. This should be on a check list for all disasters. Government is the problem here. Am I wrong?

      They didn't _direct_ traffic _off_ the bridge. They stopped _approaching_ traffic from going _onto_ the bridge. It's a long bridge with toll plazas, truck weighing stations etc, and cops at each end, so they don't need much time to just close the lanes onto the bridge. Traffic already crossing the bridge just got across with about 30 seconds to spare before collapse.
