The irritating thing about his explanation is that he talks as if disc is obvious for "o", but doesn't mention that vocalist could be a homophone indicator, which is what I thought. Raps could be wraps or rapts, add an "on", then scramble it all to find a word meaning disc. That is why the answer is STRAPON. 🧐
Yes, don't worry, you're not the only one who thought "vocalist" was a homophone indicator. I also tried "wraps" + on, but I didn't see that as a word. After that, I needed to find something else. As for "disc" being "o", it's always a bit frustrating at first, until you're used to it. It can also be described by other circular stuff (a donut, an egg, a ball...) This is not, strictly speaking, a synonym. It's what I call "representation". Another recurrent *representation* is that "direction" or "points" refer to Cardinal directions, which can be represented by N, E, S & W. There's also Roman numerals whenever you've got Arabic numbers, or Witten number (6 = six = vi)
If you want to crack more of these, you should consider to solve some clues in full cryptic crosswords. I find myself able to do 4-7 of a guardian's cryptic clues... Mostly being anagrams.
Thought vocalist is a homophone indicator and tried to work out an anagram of wrap on. Was stuck on it a long time before switching to vocalist as the definition. I had to look up for synonyms of vocalist before I got it. After the successful week, this was a blow. But very interesting clue. Loved it.
My niece and I were initially stumped. We kept trying to figure out the definition and how to work the wordplay around them. In the end I suggested that “remixed” is important (as opposed to just “mixed”) and she reminded me that disc can be an “o” and through that we both figured it out.
Struggled for a while, although I understood what to do for a lot of it. I didn't think of substituting disc for a letter. Took the hint and once it said "type of vocalist" it was only a couple of seconds before I got it. Good clue, nicely balanced I thought :)
I sometimes find it helps to look at a cryptic clue as a mathematical equation, and this one is a good example. Vocalist = raps on (remixed) + disc, where the term in parentheses serves as a mathematical operation to the preceding term.
Was struggling with this one, I thought there might be a chance disc was the def (FRISBEE? RECORDS?). Was trying to think of synonyms for raps on to anagram (KNOCK? TAPS?)? Then everything went downhill when I suspected vocalist was a homophone indicator :/. Needed a clue to verify Vocalist was indeed the definition then I figured it out.
I did get this by looking at RAPS ON and then realizing adding an O would make it soprano after being 'REMIXED'. However, I don't think I realized these clues are written in the order of the letters in the answer. That is a very helpful and enlightening solving tip!!! 🙃
Needed a letter to get there - got the disc thing and the anagram but still struggled to find soprano - having had Maria C on a loop most of the day :(
Was looking at synonyms of vocalist for too long, but I was wondering if something operatic could be applied since i could find ‘opera’ in the clue. Looked it up on wiki, then saw the answer
Hi MC, do you reckon you could turn the volume up in your videos? I turn it up to hear what you're saying, then I get jumpscared by the next video that plays. Thanks :)
Hey I discovered a small bug when using the app and then checking the site through a browser. I got the answer after using a hint which gave me a score of 2 under par, but then forgot that I had already played today’s clue so opened it via the browser (both browser and app logged into my account). In my browser, it recognises that I had already solved today’s clue, but that I got the answer in 3 under par which is incorrect.
To be fair it's only O that takes on shapes. i can be 1 (roman numerals). All other letters must be commonly standard abbreviations (U for University, C for Carbon...)or be clued as the first letter: Show's opening = S. You pick them up after a while 👍
That happens. Everyone has their easy clues, and their complicated ones. Anagrams are among my favorites. Homophones are among the hardest for me. Keep it up!
Got stuck thinking remixed applied to disc, rather than the words preceding it.🤦♂️
Same I felt so dumb when I realised it too
Me too....
Yeah, I spent a while trying to think of a word ending ___cids
@@michaelball3715 same *SPOILER* as soon as he said disc could stand for the letter o i saw the rearangement for the solution
Same. I was also trying CD and LP but nothing worked. Oh well, maybe better tomorrow!
Back in business after being thoroughly humbled yesterday 🎉
I was in yesterday, only needed the hint. Today was nice and easy though.

That’s hilarious

Hmmmm, "Vocalised" or "vocalist's" maybe, but Vocalist I wouldn't call a fair homophone indicator.

😂
Struggled. Knew there was an anagram. But forgot disc = “o” and that screwed me up.
Even par today.
Started a few weeks ago and this was the first one I cracked. I feel like the smartest man alive and hungry for more.
If you want to crack more of these, you should consider to solve some clues in full cryptic crosswords.
I find myself able to do 4-7 of a guardian's cryptic clues... Mostly being anagrams.
Welcome!!!
Welcome to the fold, brother. If you’re like me, your ability will determine how your day is going as well as your self-worth 🤣
Struggled but got there when I remember about disc indicating an ‘o’
Same ye
Here I was trying to mix up ‘disc’ and getting all confused.
Thought vocalist is a homophone indicator and tried to work out an anagram of wrap on. Was stuck on it a long time before switching to vocalist as the definition. I had to look up for synonyms of vocalist before I got it. After the successful week, this was a blow. But very interesting clue. Loved it.
I thought I'm supposed to remixe disc an wrap on around it somehow
Got this one lightning fast!!! Years of choir paid off!
Had the remix raps on, but thought vocalist was a homophone indicator, then remembered the previous use of disc as an o. Satisfying
My niece and I were initially stumped. We kept trying to figure out the definition and how to work the wordplay around them. In the end I suggested that “remixed” is important (as opposed to just “mixed”) and she reminded me that disc can be an “o” and through that we both figured it out.
Usually I struggle with anagrams but this one i actually nailed in a satisfyingly low amount of time. Very nice clue!
Same! Once I got the disc part it all came together for me
Struggled for a while, although I understood what to do for a lot of it. I didn't think of substituting disc for a letter. Took the hint and once it said "type of vocalist" it was only a couple of seconds before I got it. Good clue, nicely balanced I thought :)
Same, I thought the hint gave too much away actually.
Took me far too long to realise what disc was supposed to represent! Bit slow this morning!
This leapt out at me.
I sometimes find it helps to look at a cryptic clue as a mathematical equation, and this one is a good example. Vocalist = raps on (remixed) + disc, where the term in parentheses serves as a mathematical operation to the preceding term.
Got this straight away with no clues today - back in the game 😎
I need to watch you explain disc, then i got it straight away. Nice clue. I will remember Disc!
Very satisfying!
I was sure that “vocalist” indicated saying “raps” out loud to get “wraps”, which would be an anagram for a synonym for disc
So much easier than yesterday. That took me all day, this one first guess!
That all made immediate sense to me, for a change! 😅
Took me about a minute to remember what disc meant before!
Got this one and really loved it 👏🏼
I started off immediately seeing soprano fits and worked back from there
WOW! What a cryptic today! Nice jeremy fragrance
Stuck on trying to anagram 'disc' because that's the smoother surface reading of the clue
I did get this by looking at RAPS ON and then realizing adding an O would make it soprano after being 'REMIXED'. However, I don't think I realized these clues are written in the order of the letters in the answer. That is a very helpful and enlightening solving tip!!! 🙃

A lovely insta-solve, but just have to comment on the brilliant surface 👏👌
Was looking at synonyms of vocalist for too long, but I was wondering if something operatic could be applied since i could find ‘opera’ in the clue. Looked it up on wiki, then saw the answer
Thought vocalist raps was indicating a homophone of wraps, then wrapson would be an anagram of a word meaning disc
So glad I remembered from so long ago that DISC can be replaced be O
My logic was vocalist wanted me to say raps which gives “wraps” then I mixed wraps with “on” to give me 7 letters to anagram. Then nothing.
Managed to get there with the clue confirming singer as the definition. The methods are starting to click for me
Great clue!
Nailed this one in 1 but needed two hints for infant yesterday 😞
Hi MC, do you reckon you could turn the volume up in your videos? I turn it up to hear what you're saying, then I get jumpscared by the next video that plays. Thanks :)
Back on track! I just spelled it wrong the first time lol!
Newbie here. It's the first time I got it and know why! It's a 🎉🎉🎉 moment.
I asked for the hint and correctly guessed the answer. I then looked at tte clue to figure it out. Remarkably, I got two under par.
3 under par for today. 10/10
I was thinking raps was wraps meaning some word goes around another
I forgot about the fact that words like donut or disk could represent an o
got there in the end, but got stuck on 'parson' as the remix :/
Got this instantly !
I always forget that disc = o 🤦♀️ Soon as I heard that, I was able to solve
I tried so hard to say raps and raps on out loud to get anywhere :D
Ngl I guessed soprano (I’m a musician so I had an unfair advantage) and then figured out the method
I'm fairly new to this, so it would be nice to be able to look at some previous puzzles. Are they available?
I thought "vocalist" was a signpost and "raps on" was a fodder, before understanding it was the other way around...
Very nice surface reading
2 consecutive days solving early. Tomorrow will be fiendish no doubt!

Got this one straight away, that's better!
I don't think I'll ever get the ones where things apparently represent an o - doughnut, disc, nothing...etc.
To be fair it's only O that takes on shapes. i can be 1 (roman numerals). All other letters must be commonly standard abbreviations (U for University, C for Carbon...)or be clued as the first letter: Show's opening = S. You pick them up after a while 👍
Shamed to say i guessed this without knowing why i was correct.
Holy moly I actually got it
my friend matt got this, leibman not masenhimer
My self belief is restored, got it in one😂😂😂😂
Trying my hand at a clue: One stars in action film (5)
Movie! Nice!
@@minellesnay5366 Thanks! I figured it wouldn't be too difficult to solve. These two are really smart and serious word wizards!
It really reads as if you are supposed to remix disc, not raps on.
Hardest part was the anagram for me needed a letter other than that the wordplay was fine
Back in form 2 under par
My face watching this video 😳
5 sec and 2 under par
Under 30 seconds - 3 under par 🙌
Spent far to long on anagrams of disc
Ahhh man I failed again. I have 0 from 15 lmao whyyyy I even bother, who knows
Keep bothering . . .I used to feel like that too but it does sink in and then it's a great feeling when you crack your first clue! 🎉
No good +3
That happens. Everyone has their easy clues, and their complicated ones. Anagrams are among my favorites. Homophones are among the hardest for me.
Keep it up!
Too easy today
This clues that have some sort of insider "cryptic" knowledge are not very interesting. O goes at the end? Ok.
I hate this garbage, the ratio of horribly literal vs laughably obscure clues is all over the place
