- भारत को अंतरिक्ष तक पहुंचाने में अगर किसी शख़्स की सबसे अधिक भूमिका थी, वो थे डाक्टर विक्रम साराभाई. वो न सिर्फ़ परमाणु ऊर्जा आयोग के अध्यक्ष थे, बल्कि अन्य कई संस्थाओं के उदय में भी उनकी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका थी. भारत के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति कलाम ने अंतरिक्ष विभाग में अपने करियर की शुरुआत उन्हीं की देखरेख में की थी. विक्रम साराभाई की जन्म शताब्दी पर उनके जीवन से जुड़े दिलचस्प प्रसंगों को याद कर रहे हैं रेहान फ़ज़ल आज की विवेचना में भारत के अंतरिक्ष कार्यक्रम के जनक कहे जाने वाले विक्रम साराभाई की जन्म शताब्दी के मौके पर रेहान फ़ज़ल की विवेचना

Strange but true. When I first came to Bombay in 1965 to work I lived as a paying guest at Dr. Homi Bhabha’s secretary’s house on Cadell Road. He was posted and lived with his family in Europe. After Dr. Bhabha perished in the Mont Blanc crash, I moved to Bandra. Incidently, Flt AI 101 ‘Kanchenjunga’ crashed in 1966 at the same spot as Flt. AI 245 in 1950. While working on a flight to Europe. I met Dr. Vikram Sarabhai in the Economy Class galley. He requested for a glass of water to which I suggested that the air hostess would serve him at his seat. He insisted on having it in the galley where he had seven paper cups of water. He explained that to counter dehydration, he always hydrated himself in this fashion. He was simply dressed in a bush shirt and trousers and talked freely. Later, I realized how fortunate I was to meet such an extraordinary person.
