    Hi Phil. Do you think the tremolo pedal would be better than the Supro drive pedal for nailing the Supro sound.

  • @mattbrillhart2922

    I'm really really liking this pedal!! I accidentally left the cords plugged in the pedal overnight. The trem effect wouldn't work at all but the gain structure remained ala dieing battery tone. Slightly different drive tone than when new battery or plugged in but very kewl tones. Just really like the pedal. Makes me miss my Corsica amp.

    I don't know if you will respond to this but respond or not, I just want to say this: Thanks you
    Ive been watching your videos for a while now and I always enjoy them, you just seem like such a nice guy and have the same vibes as a teacher I have who loves teaching with all his heart.
    So keep up the good work man!

    This demo addresses exactly what I wanted hear from the preamp. Other demos mention the preamp but don't show off it's sounds as well as this one. I'm going try one. Thanks for posting.

    You should check out the Supro Drive pedal. Lots of great OD tones. I have it and love it.

    If I was to buy an amp today, probably be the Supro Comet. Played one at Sam Ash and they let crank it too.....whoa.

    I've owned this pedal for a while and only recently realized how truly great it sounds when you treat it like an amp--i.e., run your boost/dirt pedals into this pedal and it has this very open amp sound that sounds truly awesome if you want vintage, classic rock tones. It's outstanding and it can turn any amp into a supro amp. Ironically, I own a supro amp and this probably sounds better than it. Ha!

    What about the hiss of this pedal, especially with the gain up?

    interesting. The supro type of trem is not even a trem in the traditional sense, its morel like a vibe pedal

    Liking that sound. I'm looking for a Tremolo pedal, and would be tempted to look closer at the Supro ... however, I'm really looking for one with Tap Tempo.
    Any recommendations, Phillip?

      Ian Lamson of course. It's really versatile. It has tap tempo and you can select a bunch of different waveforms to modulate the trem. It's also got some crazy features where it'll do tremolo in different syncopated patterns

    Thanks for the Supro video! Have you played your comet when it's in a band mix? I had the tremoverb and I loved it but my bass player HATED it and I had to agree that it didn't really cut in the mix (even when playing with bass all the way down and the trele cranked).

  • @mikebeard72
    @mikebeard72 7 років тому +6

    So could you turn off the tremolo feature and just run the gain into the amp with other drive pedals in front of it, much like old school players would just use the preamp of the vintage echoplex?

    Could sosomeone explain how preamp pedals work? If I'm then running the supro preamp in to my Fender Blues Jr, would it still not sound like a junior? Also, can I run this directly in to my amps line input (bypassing the amplifiers preamp)?

  • @guitardudeguy3139

    I like the pedal..not the price..why are pedals soooo high priced now? Most good pedals are 2to 300.00 dollars now..not that I don't buy what I like, but it seems most of my students and or fellow musicians can buy pretty good amps for 2 to 300 dollars. Just saying. Does it cost more to make a pedal or an amp? Confusing these days.

    How does the Supro Tremolo pedal compare with the Supro amp Tremolo? Meaning if I A/B the pedal with the amp...any difference?

    • @gavincrockett9521
      @gavincrockett9521 6 років тому

      Ears McMurphy The amplitude tremolo is going to be exactly the same as Supro's amp trem, but you won't be getting the Brownface-style on your Supro. I'm not sure if it differs between the newer models and the 64 reissues.

    whats the difference between a gibson sg and a gibson sgj

    • @wadenkrangguttenberg3750
      @wadenkrangguttenberg3750 7 років тому

      alex dubmaster and the lol. seriously though the J series had a les paul (lpj) and an SG (sgj) there was alot of confusion with people thinking the J was for junior but its not. the name is not really well thought out but the guitars made in 2013 and 2014 are great. I have a 2013 lpj and after switching out the ugly black covered pickups ( 498 and 490) to alnico 2 I am very happy with the guitar. they are possibly the cheapest used gibson you can get but they are well made and loved by many who dont have 3000$ for a standard. peace

    The pedal has got a transformer in it? Hmm, you mean transistor, right? In which case it's not gonna sound like the amp. It might sound close. I've had a bit of experience with the tube supro amps and they are fantastic. To claim a transistor preamp pedal will sound the same is just bogus. And this video actually proves it. The sound of the pedal on this video is cool, but it's not even close to the tube supro preamp.

    • @PhillipMcKnight
      @PhillipMcKnight  7 років тому +2

      No it has a output transformer.

    • @jamessaunders7554
      @jamessaunders7554 7 років тому +1

      Phillip McKnight ok I just looked it up. You're right! ( of course). But adding an output transformer to a solid state circuit is akin to aadding a starved plate 12v "tube" to a solid state pedal. It adds some character but it never sounds like the real thing. I'm still dubious. Not to say they can't sound good, but it's never the same as the real thing. The supro amps are the real deal tho, I'm super impressed by them.

    • @jamessaunders7554
      @jamessaunders7554 7 років тому +1

      Having said that, I'm surprised it's taken so long for a company to do this in a guitar pedal. Or maybe it's been done before and I've missed it. Lots of microphone preamps use transformers , mainly to balance the signal, but they have a known side effect of "fattening" the tone. Talk to old school audio engineers about using neve and api preamps to "add some iron" and "fatten" the tone, especially on drums.

    Great job! Could this be run into an effects return? Thanks!

    • @Todesnuss
      @Todesnuss 7 років тому +1

      You can run almost anything into an effects return. Maybe not your guitar, but that depends on the returns impedance. Pedals should never be a problem. I recently plugged my pedals that I would run in front into the return instead to bypass the preamp, since I had noise issues i wanted to troubleshoot, got me some nice cleans. You can basically use a buffer or clean boost instead of your preamp to get super clean tones and if your guitar is either active or the loop runs at instrument level and impedance you can plug straight into the return.

    • @BShrimp
      @BShrimp 7 років тому +1

      This. I wonder why he didn't try it in the return? I do it with almost every pedal with a pre-amp.
