@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I think that fuel stabilizers help to some degree, but there are a lot of folks that think otherwise. You Tube channel Taryl Fixes All performed over a year and a half study with various fuel types and numerous fuel stabilizers, and the results showed that fuel stabilizers really don't provide any additional benefit. I think it's in the eye of the beholder personally. Ethanol free is the way to go, but it's expensive and not readily available everywhere.

    • @brianhillis3701

@@johnmedlin5894 none of the stabilizers labels I have seen say they work over 6 months. Most say less time. They seem to help if you get a bad batch of fuel. Going to really busy stations makes getting bad batches rare (usually caused when the station tank is nearly empty and they have lots of water in the tank. If you get fuel with water in it go back to the station and ask to see the stick reading for the day. They measure both fuel and water level. It should be 1 inch or less. If over 2 inches it is high. If 4 you are definitely getting water.) The easiest thing is to shake/stir/aggitate it vigorously. Helps to eliminate the separation and makes the water droplets smaller. Water filters work if they aren't installed, you have room and you check them.

Instead of bagging we would take clippings and use them in our garden for weed control, fertilization, and moisture retention. The only work was to turn them into the garden in the spring. Garden output was insane after a few years of doing this... beefsteak tomatoes the size of softballs.

I used to compost them with ground up leaves and chipped tree trimmings. Once composted I used it on the flower beds and lawn. That and some pine straw mulch would grow marigolds you wouldn't believe.

I purchased a Titan 2000 5 years ago. It has been a dream! I haven’t had any issues with it other than one front tire had to be replaced. I have 220 hours on her. I do regular service changing oil every 25 hours of use. I went from a 2 acre yard to a 1 acre yard. I’m expecting 20 years of reliable service which should equal the rest of my life. Great job Toro

Purchased a Titan 54 in this May. Absolutely love it. As you know, here in North Carolina the grass can stay wet most of the day. Never a problem for the Titan. Putting Gater 3 blades on for the fall. You ought to give them a try. Bye, bye leaves. Love your channel here in Pleasant Garden, NC.

Do you still have it and also whereabouts in North Carolina do you live I am in the market for one but I have yet to find a good Toro dealer. I am torn between doing Toro, X Mark and ironically a Husqvarna. All of which are either a 54 or 60 inch deck. I like the Husqvarna and ex mark dealer near me the most but if I go with ex mark I can only afford a 54 inch deck where if I get a Toro I can get a 60 inch deck. But the nearest Toro dealership is 65 Miles away the ex mark is 45 miles away but it is also within a couple miles of my wife’s work.

@@Yamacamkaw Yes I still have it, and love it. We live in the Greensboro area, and I purchased the mower from B-T South which is located on Groomtown rd in Greensboro. What sold me was the machine is that it’s built like a tank, strong transmissions, great deck, and front and rear tire size. I use mine commercially 8 hours a week, a about 4 hours for family. Super easy to maintain. Zero issues so far with 129 hours. The Exmark is a great mower on paper, never owned one. I didn’t consider other brands after doing my research on machines in my price range.

Also looked into the Titan but it was a little out of my price range. Ended up purchasing the Toro Timecutter in March of 2019. Very happy with the machine. Have had a Toro Zero turn now for 6 years, 50 inch.
I am not gentle on it. I bought this property, and the amount of trees, and shrubs is nothing short of insane. Cut mowing time to a bit less than 2 hours, from 4 hours on ride on type. I have replaced all 3 spindles 3 years ago, and have had to weld and replace some of the hanging gear on the deck. Will no doubt have to replace entire deck within the next couple years.
It is only the stamped deck, and has taken a lot of abuse. Well line wrapped in the blades, 3/16 steel rod wrapped in blades, Had to zip cut it out. Thus the spindle replacements.
Now as for fuel stabilizer, firm believer in it, and use it all the time. If I go get a jug of gas, I pour some in for everything I use. Side by side, Mower, Log splitter, Golf cart, even put a little in the chainsaw gas before mixing with the oil. I can tell you things run better, start better, and in the case where they sit all winter, it is just a matter of turning the key and away the go after months of sitting. Just got tired of the gas now a days gumming up the carbs after a few weeks and just making it extremely difficult to start anything, and then trying to get it to run right afterwards.

I agree with your statement about once having used a zero turn you won't want to go back to anything else. I have a zero turn that's been having engine problems that nobody's been able to figure out. As a result I'm using a spare tractor and it's the pits. It's slower than death, a smaller mower deck, and there's no suspension. BUT it's better than nothing. I'm trying a different dealer now hoping they'll be able to figure out the engine problem on the z-turn so I can get that baby back.

I am sure you could probably redrill the mounting plate for your seat and mount it back a little to give you more room.
Looks like a nice mower. I believe there are alot of good quality zero turn mowers on the market. I think the key point is to purchase a commercial unit. But most of them will stand up well for the first couple years. The real test of a mower will come 10,15,20 years down the road. My SCAG Tiger Cub is holding up strong and it is 18 years old.

I have a 1990 jd 265 garden tractor with a 17hp Kawasaki single cold cylinder engine that purrs like a kitten it has mechanical shoe brakes
And also, if you need to disengage the hydrostatic transmission, there is a small lever under the transmission near the trailer hitch that all you do is simply pull it gently and then you’re able to push it back wherever you need to go and then to reengage it All you do is hop on the tractor. Start the engine and it will pop back into place , whereas the zturn? you have to manually stop it put the break on pull the sticks out and then pop the two pins out manually and then move that to where it needs to go and then manually push the pins back in and then you can use it, that’s the benefit of my 1990 jd is I don’t need to do all that bullshit

Those lights look cool, but those bolts stick out quite far, and almost exactly at head height.... If you were in a rollover those bolts could cause a lot of damage to your head or face. I'd use shorter bolts that didn't stick out and then fit some sort of cover/padding on the bracket just in case my head hits it.

Couple of questions for the Toro Experts: 1) I have a 3.5 Acre yard with lots of elevation changes. Any issues with traction ? 2) I am not familiar with Kohler Engines, are they as reliable as Kawasaki engines? Thank you in advance

    • @davidhopper4433
      @davidhopper4433 Рік тому

Kawasaki engines are best. I have the Toro brand engine on my Titan 2000 of which I was told that it was made in China, Yikes! I don’t have any traction issues however if your running in the high RPM range you will experience wheel slippage on sharp turns and reverse motions which can damage fescue turfs. This is just my experience on my 1 acre yard. I wanted the Kawasaki engine however the dealer didn’t have any available at the time. I know a commercial lawn guy and he had a similar model Toro as mine and he had to replace deck bearings and a starter after 200 hours of use. I questioned him about it and he admitted that he was taking it to the car washes a couple of times a week spraying it down which is probably why those issues occurred?
Mine has 220 hours without experiencing any mechanical issues. I have never put any water on mine in 5 years.

I have a Toro 54” Timecutter that is great at what it was designed for. My problem is it can’t hold the grade when cutting along my fence line. The mower will steer into the fence and I think the hydros are overhanging. My other problem is I am 272 pounds. 🤣. With the more powerful hydros do you think the Titan Max might be a better option? Obviously you aren’t here to see the conditions. Some angles of cutting are 7 - 10%

For files grit is not really the word for it. I have 8 water stones of different grits and sizes. I don't think you quite got my meaning when I say sharp enough to shave. The only thing I use on my Lawnmower blades is a 12 in Bastard Mill File. You should see my draw knifes after I finish stoning them as I call it. I make it a habit to look at them every time I pick one up. The only way to keep from getting stitches. My Old Hickory butcher knifes the same way. I have had a Toro 4800 titan Z for about five years. Have had to replace the cylinder head twice after multiple push rod failures and last evening, I blew a silver dollar sized hole out the side of my block. I have 5 acres to mow, and it seems to me that's too much area for my mower. I gets too hot. As much as I like the machine, I'm not sure I want to replace the motor. Going to talk to my dealer Monday. Given what I've seen on the internet for cost of engine replacement, I'm not sure I'll stick with Toro.
