Its clear London has immaculately maintained road surfaces and cohesive, well thought out cycle lanes. That’s great. Cyclists in the rest of the UK have to share their space with spine shattering pot holes and lunatic cycle skimming HGV drivers. I didn’t even know what a cycle lane was til I saw this video 😂
I think you demonstrably have a bias towards cyclists. Your excuse that they may crash if you try to stop them is simply nonsense. If they don’t have decent working brakes they shouldn’t be on the road anyway.
I totally agree with showing this careless inattention to the road. However, I'm going to offer a criticism too. I'm watching your head movements as you ride along, and every time you are looking into a car, you are not looking at the road ahead. I totally get your Gandalf Corner clips. It appears like you are on foot, on a traffic island/crossing, so don't need to be thinking about your own position on the road. I don't want to appear confrontational...I agree with your stance. All I would say is that some of these clips look like you are more interested in the behaviour of the drivers and the catch..could this be interpreted as riding without your full attention? It's clear your an experienced rider, so I'm guessing you are assessing the risks all of the time. I'm just saying that one day you might have a genuine mishap, as most of us cyclists have. It might not be your fault...but if anyone were to ask questions...could these clips be used against you?
Don't worry, I'm keeping an excellent lookout, not just for phone drivers, but for other road users around me. Seeing phone drivers is not especially different to the good observation that all experienced cyclists do. You'll also note how I moderate my speed the busier it gets. So far the police have been absolutely fine with my riding, so I reckon I'm doing pretty well here.
@@CyclingMikey Yep, I figured you are the one on the ground, and can assess the full situation around you. I agree with looking into cars; one of the best things you can do on a motorcycle is look into a drivers eyes....they know you have seen them. When riding a bike, you need to be aware of whats around you. Just like when you drive you should be constantly checking your mirrors. Looking around is good.

Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons: 1) Should a child or shorter person cross in front of them they wouldn't even see them, and would likely then move off, running them over. Notice how WFN364 (google for videos) drives forwards whilst looking at his phone? This is common behaviour from phone drivers. Here's an example someone else caught where the driver almost takes out a pedestrian at a crossing: twitter.com/phonekills/status/1491526464520560641?s=20 2) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists. These drivers are often slow to react when the queue starts moving, and then when someone behind them beeps they drop the phone and hastily move off without even looking. 3) If you imagine these people only use their phones when queuing at the traffic lights, that's terribly naïve. The gardener in LM63BTZ was on the phone whilst driving along, and quite likely had been doing it for some considerable part of his journey. These phone users are constantly using their phones, but it's just much easier to catch them when they're in the queue. 4) Phone distraction lasts for a good time after you put the phone away. Even if you're only using the phone in each traffic queue at each junction (which is highly unlikely), then you're constantly topping up your mental distraction and are basically as disabled as a drunk driver. 5) Phone driving is worse than drink driving for distraction rates, and that's why it's part of the #Fatal4 behaviours that police target heavily. 6) Here's a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g 7) People who knowingly break minor driving law will likely also break more serious laws. Strong policing of minor traffic offences has a strong effect on reducing collisions resulting in killed and seriously injured people. It's good to police these phone drivers. I'm really not interested in this nonsense of "it's not dangerous when stationary, because it clearly is and it's clearly still very appropriate to catch these drivers.

Are you a child or a criminal or both? Why don't you want bad drivers being caught? Who is sad? You're sad. You're crying salty tears because bad driving is being caught and punished. You're salty because you identify with criminal drivers. On the other hand, I'm fairly happy most of the time. I'm not even in the top ten most prolific reporters in London. Tens of thousands of cyclists run video cameras and will report bad driving around them. From now on you'll remember this conversation every time you see cyclists on the road, and you'll think about some of us filming you. Some of our cameras are very easy to see, like GoPros, and some are nearly impossible to spot. Have fun looking for cyclists' cameras on the road. I suggest you drive properly around us all. Feel paranoid. Google your own number plates. Regularly.
@@CyclingMikey Shame those tens of thousands of Red light jumping cyclist won’t get 3 points and a £60 fine . 🧐. Free rein to do as you please is our cycle mob. I wonder if there is anything in place stopping people from registering their car to a family member (without a licence), failing to comply and avoiding driving bans? If you've got money the fines aren't going to be a disincentive.
I doubt that'll happen. People who know about CyclingMikey probably wouldn't use their phone/put it away quickly when they see him coming. The ones he catches are off-guard and haven't got a clue.
Do you hunt down cyclists that jump red lights, cut corners, don't signal etc... or do you turn a blind eye to that. You're just maybe not that much of a pedant only when it comes to people who inconvenience you.
It's drivers like that who sit at green lights or roll forwards into other vehicles because they forget that they are stopping the vehicle due to being so focused on the phone. They also are the ones who accelerate into a stationary vehicle when they hear vehicles accelerate off next to them (right turn drivers). Just today I was the 6th vehicle in a turn lane controlled by lights. The arrow went green and no movement for about 3 seconds from the first vehicle. He/she / it slowly took off and then did a u-turn. The 2nd vehicle went through as it turned orange (start of red stage) and the next 2 vehicles just ran the red light. Of course I stopped for the red as did the vehicle in front of me. 5 minutes later the light went greeen again to turn. The vehicle in front paused for about 1 second then slowly took off and performed a u-turn. I got through as quick as I could so I wouldn't hold up traffic and the 3rd vehicle was still busy being distracted and would have gone through on the orange / red.
Good job Mikey! 👍 I can’t believe how unaware this driver was, his window was open and Mikey was right beside him, he didn’t even acknowledge Mikey as say a cyclist pulling up to the lights or something, totally oblivious…. I can’t imagine being that unaware behind the wheel of a car.

@@altbergp1930 would be more in the public interest for the police to spend less time on diversity issues and deal with crimes that have real ramifications.
@@altbergp1930 minor!?, people die from these offences!
Absolutely right. It’s up to all citizens of our country to ensure that all laws are upheld. It amazes me when people caught by Mikey say “but you’re not the police”. What?? So if a citizen saw a person being attacked in the street he should think “oh well I’m not the police I’ll walk on by”. Absolute nonsense. We’re all here to protect each other and stopping idiots from potentially killing other road users is high on the list.
0:40 i don't think this guy realises how lucky he is. lol. He got spared by Mikey?!
At least he was in good spirits about getting caught... I wonder how he feels now?
I still want to see repeat offenders get a 1 year phone ban
What? Why a phone ban? That makes no sense. They should get a car ban. If you ban someone from having a phone, you are completely ruining every aspect of their life. They can't get a job or keep their current one. They can't communicate with anyone, including companies that they're doing business with. A phone ban would be an insanely cruel and unusual punishment for a traffic offense.
Beautiful car, but the design does make it look like he's compensating for something
And a lovely colour blue Range Rover behind - WITH A TOTALLY ILLEGAL NUMBER PLATE....!!!!!
Shifted his focus to the numberplate issue, rather than his initial concern, this shows to me personally that this is more of a wannabe Police officer game, rather than what initially was his goal of making the city a safer place for cyclists.
he's just pointing out yet another law the driver had broken...
Why are those pedestrians being made to wait at that beg button for so long at 2:48 there is a refuge island and the traffic has a red light! Bad urban planning!
thank you, it makes it safer for all of us
wow the black merc driver was actually nice, never would have thought
blue range rover behind. has an illegal number plate
Arrogant ****, the way he just rolls into the ASL.
I googled the reg plate and it says it’s the reg of a BMW? 🤔
Great work as always mikey 👏 happy new year to you fella
On a separate note did anyone notice the kid on her scooter nice to see her wearing a helmet obviously very resposible parents
Happy new year!
because so many of my generation died from not wearing helmets on their scooters and bikes , including my 30mph downhill off from my raleigh chopper, wait, we're alive
Its too wet up north. Cycles are really only used in the summer.
It's a shame that bad drivers get to drive cars as beautiful as this one.
Sod driving around there, the lane markings everywhere are insane for a guy like me who lives rural lol.
The guy on the bike in front of you towards the end, he went through a red light right in front of you did you report him
I can see you're going to be busy when the highway code rules come in, keep up the good work and stay safe
So report all car drivers but when a cyclists clearly goes through a red light in this video, ignore it. One rule for cyclists one rule for car drivers.
One is super dangerous, one is not, even though both are wrong and illegal. Plus I can't actually do anything about the cyclists. Maybe you could have a little cry about it?
Mikey well done for this, if it saves anyones life then it is worth it. These idiots may think twice next time. You do it in such a polite way also which is great :)
I think bike lanes separated from the cars like in Belgium, the Netherlands or Spain are more secure.
With the highway code changing to give cyclist more protection, penalties for motorists should be increased. They should be increased to the point, it makes the motorist think, if I use my phone, what will happen, and will I lose my job
What changed in the highway code
Your supposed to wait until the pedestrian crossing the road is on the zebra has completely finished crossing until you proceed ,it’s in the Highway Code Mikey, bad example there come on man
Eh? There is no zebra crossing in this video.
@@CyclingMikey9.16.. but they had reached the centre island
I'm curious -- can they use the video to identify the driver? I mean, they're usually going to be insured to drive the car, and their license has their photo. It seems weird that the court can't prove who was driving when you've got crystal clear evidence for them.
Do they ever identify the individual via your videos or is it a technicality of the justice system?
The owner of the vehicle should get the points, unless they can notify the authorities who was borrowing their car
@@denverspin You mean the registered keeper?
I know this person and he never received a fine or points. Starting to think a lot of these “outcomes” are just pure shit
@@uplightuk8924 You know the driver? He may not be the owner, and we don't know which person in the chain of owner/responsible party/driver got the failure to comply fine. What I do know is that the Met sent me an email confirming that one of them got the failure to comply penalty.
@@uplightuk8924 The thing is someone can get the mail from the met and claim someone else was driving, so could even be your dad but he hasn't drove in 15 years, he could take the hit for it... While the one that was actually using his phone gets a second chance effectively.
Leaves me to wonder what Mikey would do about the high school cyclists in Japan who ride whilst holding an umbrella, texting on their phone, listening to music with earphones, and sometimes drinking a canned coffee all at the same time.
What mount are u using for the rear camera?
It's a NUT-R axle mount.
do you also report other cyclists ?
No he doesn't. They are unidentifiable. Doesn't seem to bother him.
Listen to that 4L V8.... AHHHHH Gotta love it
Its clear London has immaculately maintained road surfaces and cohesive, well thought out cycle lanes. That’s great. Cyclists in the rest of the UK have to share their space with spine shattering pot holes and lunatic cycle skimming HGV drivers. I didn’t even know what a cycle lane was til I saw this video 😂
@6:24 why did you walk across instead of riding ?
Largely because I wasn't 100% sure of the light cycle and by walking I remain completely legal in crossing there.
what part of london is that exactly
Lancaster Gate.
If they don't look back...the chances are they haven't seen you anyway.
Stay safe, and keep on showing just what a problem this is.
When riding a bike, you need to be aware of whats around you. Just like when you drive you should be constantly checking your mirrors.
Looking around is good.
I’m waiting for the day where he catches someone watching one of his videos behind the wheel 😂
LOL, that would be funny and sad all in one go. I did catch a dutch guy reading a Dutch newspaper article about me on his phone. I reported him and he apparently took an FPN. Gimme a sec, I dig out the link...
ua-cam.com/video/uBmXK6qzmQI/v-deo.html
Guy was pleasant in the exchange, probably a bit sheepish having been caught red-handed. At least it shows repentance, hopefully he learns his lesson
It shows that rules and fines are meaningless to the super-rich.
He probably didn't realise he was going to get reported to the Police.
Is it dangerous to be on your phone while stationary? I’m guessing it affect reaction time?
Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons:
1) Should a child or shorter person cross in front of them they wouldn't even see them, and would likely then move off, running them over. Notice how WFN364 (google for videos) drives forwards whilst looking at his phone? This is common behaviour from phone drivers. Here's an example someone else caught where the driver almost takes out a pedestrian at a crossing:
twitter.com/phonekills/status/1491526464520560641?s=20
2) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists.
6) Here's a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g
7) People who knowingly break minor driving law will likely also break more serious laws.
@@CyclingMikey thank you so much for this reply it answers my question perfectly - sorry if it was stupid question I don’t drive and never have so not sure about the ins and outs of it all.
I discovered you few days ago and haven’t stopped binging your vids entertaining as hell but learning a lot about safety at same time.
Have a nice day!
You should come to Darlington mate!
The roads in london look great, can we get the same firm todo brighton the potholes are s big you ca hear an echo
That driver has a funny set of balls.
That guy having the front number plate sticker was still not legal. Reason being is that it curved around the side which means cameras can't properly capture it. It has to be fully visible from the front of the car.
No the was illeagle the font was in correct, also it has to be flat and 90 degrees to the road.
The number plates on the blue Range Rover directly behind the Merc are also illegal
Eventually you’ll get filled in because sooner or later you’ll meet a wrong un

Cool guy in the car, got to give it to him.
Yes I agree, resently startely cycling myself.😀
You must live a very sad life, you’ve nothing to do in your life but to check every car as you pass. You seem more concerned with what other people are doing and not what your doing .
I savour your salty tears like fine whine. Grass/snitch/snake are words used largely by children and criminals to intimidate normal good citizens from reporting criminal behaviour.
Regularly.

Shame those tens of thousands of Red light jumping cyclist won’t get 3 points and a £60 fine . 🧐. Free rein to do as you please is our cycle mob.
Couple days ago I see in Richmond park, a cyclist slammed into the back of a Merc and went through the back windscreen . Don’t suppose he/she had insurance to pay the damage .
Why did he not comment on the guy in white van, who had phone up to his ear while approaching the lights? at 3m.44 secs?? Maybe he didnt see, just the camera did.
Is that the number plate below his passenger-side headlight? That can't be legal, surely.
I wonder if there is anything in place stopping people from registering their car to a family member (without a licence), failing to comply and avoiding driving bans? If you've got money the fines aren't going to be a disincentive.
No, nothing at all.
I think I remember an MP was jailed for doing something similar.
And the blue car behind him - SHISHA Y or SH15 HAY should also get a ticket for dodgy letter spacing.
The disguised number plates are one of the most blatant yet least enforced driving crimes!
I so want you to catch someone watching your channel one day!
Catch someone whilst watching his channel?
I doubt that'll happen. People who know about CyclingMikey probably wouldn't use their phone/put it away quickly when they see him coming. The ones he catches are off-guard and haven't got a clue.

Now, yes, but when I filmed the video it was a Mercedes. :)
The front number plate is also illegal, it does not comply with the BS standards.
Do you hunt down cyclists that jump red lights, cut corners, don't signal etc... or do you turn a blind eye to that. You're just maybe not that much of a pedant only when it comes to people who inconvenience you.
How exactly is he supposed to report that to the police?
I can’t believe how unaware this driver was, his window was open and Mikey was right beside him, he didn’t even acknowledge Mikey as say a cyclist pulling up to the lights or something, totally oblivious…. I can’t imagine being that unaware behind the wheel of a car.
in stop start traffic A2 to london i've seen people with a reading book on the steering wheel, cups of tea on the dashboard ,women doing their make up in the rear view mirror and a guy having a shave all whilst moving

You have absolutely no right to be policing anyone or anything. We live in a democracy in the UK and it is absolutely NOT acceptable for a jealous class warrior as you undoubtably are to go out and be a quasi police officer. The Metropolitan Police should tell you in no uncertain terms to stop or face arrest.
Wrong. The police themselves are asking for 3rd party footage for convictions just like this one. Moreover:
"The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence."
