I'm a Brit so I hope this helps. Typically in England we make thinner crepe style pancakes it what my dad used to make for me as a kid, however we do also have "American" Style pancakes which are the ones you're thinking of presumably. So I think Kay was making a crepe, but on the first "pancake" she said she didn't add all the milk and still ended up with that runny. I swear she's getting these recipes from a troll. But yeah, Crepes are pancakes and pancakes are pancakes 😂

When I was growing up, my dad used to make amazing crepes/pancakes. My niece is obsessed with American style pancakes and if I made her one of the ones I had made growing up, she'd most likely say to me 'wait, that's not a pancake"

Yeah, Americans don't really think of crepes and pancakes being the same thing. Most people would probably categorize pancakes as being more similar to waffles than to crepes, since pancakes and waffles both go with butter and maple syrup. But crepes are something totally different that go with fruit and cream. That's a fancier breakfast item.

As a Brit I might be able to shed some light. These are the kind of pancakes we enjoy, they’re similar to crepes with thickness and somewhat in taste. Generally thought there needs to be a bit more batter in the pan so it doesn’t destroy itself when you flip it. They’re actually quite delicious, and I grew up eating them, I would honestly advise any Americans to actually try before you bash. Even if the pancake is deformed honestly I think it does taste decent since it’s hard to fail with them they’re pretty simple. Generally, the heat needs to be higher from the beginning so it cooks faster and doesn’t fall apart when you flip it. Her error was that her pan was too low and she didn’t put enough batter in, and for a savoury pancake she would have needed more toppings too. But In all seriousness, British pancakes are quite delicious and they’re also healthier than American pancakes because they have lees ingredients and it’s mostly milk. Will say tho, we do not claim the noodle pancakes that shit looks like hellspawn
Also, no we don’t call omelets and pancakes the same thing. Omelet is just egg, pancake is milk, eggs and flour with sugar if it’s dessert

Hello I'm a brit and I'm here to answer all pancake related questions. The first one isn't a great pancake but it's a pancake nonetheless. Pancakes in the UK are thin and I guess I can see the resemblance to a tortilla. Most people have them sweet but I have heard of savoury ones. Brits call Crêpes 'pancakes' for some reason. As a Brit myself I can't give you any reason as to why, but she's trying to create a crêpe, not a pancake. (Just wanted to explain for peeps that didn't know)

Long time viewer and Patreon supporter, first time commenter here.
After so many Cooking With Kay videos, I've grown intrigued by the possibility that all of her wacky and non-typical recipes are actually one of those things that end up being absolutely delicious despite the understandable and warranted idea of what we as westerners typically find interest in.
I had the opportunity to experience many different cultures in my life so far, and I tried to always envelope myself in each regions' idea of culinary art. However I have never been to Europe, nonetheless England/UK.
What if this is actually some really good food?
August, if you one day had the opportunity to have Kay prepare one of her self- produced recipes for you, how reluctant would you be to give it a try? It'd be an experience, at least.
Kind of makes me want to give these recipes a go, if I had just slightly more interest in the "everything's fried" sector of worldwide dietary preference.
Contact her and do a collaboration to reinforce your current position on it! Or at least follow her recipe at home and give a review

as an international student studying in the UK, those pancakes are exactly the ones they make. I once bought a Sainsbury's ready mix pancake mix, it required so much milk the batter was so liquidy. But then i realized that its supposed to be thin, unlike what hollywood shows you. Its very similar to how we make it back in my home country in malaysia, we call it lempeng, and its usually eaten as a breakfast, savoury with anchovy sambal or curry or whatever you want to dip it in with. Sweetened condensed milk also works if you want it as 'dessert'.
