Do you know anyone in meatspace that actually has one of these fake slabs in their hands? I can't tell if this an internet scam based that uses fake pictures to generate fake sales data or if there is actually a person counterfeiting slabs that are so high quality even CGC can't tell 'em apart. The latter is a much bigger deal but the former seems more likely.
Grading is pointless unless you plan on flipping it or something. I buy comics because I like reading them, not to make money. I read my comics too much to do that.
As a collector of over 40 years, I can count the number of slabbed books I have on one hand. I'm glad I never bought into the Graded book sales pitch. I enjoy reading my collection, and never viewed it as an investment vehicle. However, I do empathize with those who bought such books in good faith, and now all they are seeing in their mind are question marks wondering if any of theirs are not what they claim to be.
I have never owned a slab. Never will. Obvious scamming, even when working as designed. Legit grades are still subjective, and only really apply at the time of grading. Now we have entire forums dedicated to people restoring books in ways undetectable by slab companies. Buyer beware.
As long as cgc stops all reholdering til investigation is complete. And knowing scam individuals books have serial numbers not hard. Takes cgc to take action and authorities to make impact for collectors and hobby
Unfortunately we'll never know the full amount of books "affected." Criminals rarely confess to past crimes, much less their more recent fraudulent activities.
If these were raw books you would be able to spot missing page, missing mark jewellers - so not slabbing gives me more security than slabbing. The whole slabbing industry is now undermined.
The availability pool has been tainted. This is indisputable now. The books that they have sold have to be called into question and would need to somehow be verified at this point - and if they were able to discover the process loophole + mechanisms to swap labels/books ... then you can absolutely bet that other people have too, but they're doing it without being noticed. House of cards, meet stiff breeze.
House of Cards indeed. Thats my fear, is that a guy like this doesn’t keep it quiet when they crack the code like this. They start making bank, getting cocky, and then they start talking.
🧠🧠🧠 There you go! I’ve never been too hung up on grade and the 9.8 only collector boggles my mind, but to each their own. For me, I’d rather have one of everything, than the best of anything.
I have a feeling this scammer may have use to work at cgc and knows how to get the case open in a way he can close it to appear it hasn't been cracked. Maybe!
That’s a pretty good theory. Or if they didn’t used to work there, maybe they know someone who did that showed them the secret. I’ll be interested to see what comes out about it.
Fix: Get rid of any of this re-holdering process, and if you want the case to be fixed, you need a clean grading submission each time. Technically by you taking it out of the case and back in, its possible something could have happened to the book between that time (CGC isn't perfect by any means).
I have taken a step back from the hobby for the last 6-8 months and to see this is very disappointing to say the least and of course it has to be the biggest Grading Company that held the most value but now that's very questionable. It totally destroys any values of graded books. I hope they catch the pieces of crap involved thanks Drew and swaggle and Ryan! Thank you for bringing us this content
Bad for the pure investors only. The hobby is about the act of reading and enjoying comics. NOT sealing them in cases. So many have just swallowed the pill and I don't know why except greed. (just how I see it only!)
Many years ago a PGX grader was caught reslabbing a lower grade CGC book into a much higher grade PGX. I suspect something similar is happening here. I can't imagine how much money the scammer must have taken from his buyers over all those years. Wow.
Only took that one bad whiff to ruin PGX. W Why does CGC get benefit of doubt with multiple frauds found. Grading was new then. Didn't Blackstone buy CGC? Gonna need some kind of independent verification
I assume they will, as soon as they gather all available information. More info will come out, and they'll issue a measured response. The last few years have provided trauma, after trauma, who knows what the next tragedy will be.
Cynic that I am, I would not be surprised if CGC ended up announcing three things: 1. They have no idea who should be held accountable; 2. They are completely overhauling their security, authentication and grading protocols and changing the look and design of their slabs; 3. One of the changes they’ll be making is to start downgrading comics for production-related problems such as non-centered front cover art. Potentially, these changes would relegate all previous CGC slabs to undesirable status, and motivate collectors to crack and resubmit all their more valuable comics.
I’ve had a few slabs crack over the years, and they don’t tend to go back together. Is it possible that this fraudster has access to the slab cases and is simply swapping labels and moving inner wells?
If forgers can forge and fool museums, how hard is it to fool everyone with comics? Who knows how long this has been going on. I want to know how long has this been going on with CGC? CGC has to clean this up ASAP!
For sure. I think that is the easy part. What to do with the books is the hard part and then figuring out where their process is compromised so it can be fixed.
you can't really uncompromise the thing that seems to be compromised. if people can buy empty slabs and seal 'em themselves or if people can open and swap without cracking, then CGC's product is 100% broken. If that's the case then buying a CGC graded book is actually more risky than buying a raw since I can actually look through the raw book and verify it's completeness.@@CoMoComicBooks
@@CoMoComicBooks Now the big question will be does a reholder automatically mean regrading? To me, at this time, thats the only true/honest solution. This issue wont decrease, we will see a spike.
@@GeorgeThree They don't normally regrade during a reholder request. From what I understand, if the book is obviously got the grade it states, they will though.
No shock here. The whole graded book thing was a scam from the start. You are putting immense value on a very subjective craft of grading. The differences between 9.4, 9.6 and 9.8 are almost imperceptible and can differ day by day even with the same grader.
I think CGC now has to come up with some sort of "tamper indicator" built into its cases. At least, in a way where if the case is cracked, the label is permanently damaged. So it cant be reused again. And maybe, like they do on the top, a strip of paper along all the edges that have the book and grade, that once its cracked open, will also be ruined.
Maybe a box of empty slabs disappeared out the backdoor of cgc maybe former employee? Or how hard is it to buy some empties from cgc's suppliers? Idk just spit balling here! This is craziness! Great video!
You may be on to something here, everyone just assumes the scammer found a way to open the cases. The scammer could have gotten his hands on empty cases.
A lotta collectors are going to look at their collection now and have massive anxiety, this scandal changes everything and now "doubt” will always linger over These books & future slab purchases…it’s really scary to think off but can’t believe it’s happening,
Is it possible that the seller/culprit could have just switched out the label and not have sent it back to CGC or would that be impossible with the cases? Also, would the buyer be able to get their money back with the Ebay buyer protections in place?
Hard to say. The reholder process seems to be the key, because then the imposter book is sealed in and you have no way of knowing that you don’t have what the label says until you break it open.
Looks like CGC is liable in all of this. I suspect graders are taking the inner well wrapped books at face value when they put them in a new case, when in fact they are not the same comics.
The guy's FF#4 sale notwithstanding, you can see what the fraudster is specializing in. Common, high "value", high volume sales, comics. As an auditor I see this as a fraudster's dream. I'm actually surprised someone hasn't been caught printing new copies of many of these books. The technology is easily available when the numbers paid for these books has reached these levels. With the $ involved, I'm pretty sure this person has multiple avenues for sales outside just Ebay (may have multiple ID's there as well). The fact they are using many different types of fraud here makes me think that it is much more pervasive than one guy.
I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but, instead of swapping the comic, wouldn't out be easier to just swap out the LABEL from one slab to another?
CBCS used to heat seal the label to the inner well thereby eliminating the seperation of the label from the book. This was changed when they introduced their new labels. Maybe they should bring it back and CGC should adopt something similar.
Absolutely. It was a weakness in their process and someone discovered a way to exploit that weakness. It’s not a new story. This kind of thing happens all the time across all facets of life.
Something that's crazy is that no matter what scandals arise regarding CGC, most collectors still choose their slabs over CBCS, PGX, and so on as if they're the better company, causing CGC slabs to be more valuable.
Well done my man and thank you for the Right information much aprsheated brother from one collector to another The G Man! from The Nerdy Collective Show!👊🙏 keep up the fight !
Difficulty is nobody knows how widespread this problem is?. Its only likely to effect higher grade and higher priced slabs with custom labels so a relatively small percentage of slabs. But could there be other books that have been tampered with in a different way waiting to be discovered???..
The seller no longer has any current listings on eBay. Did he pull the listings, or did eBay take action? I am curious how much involvement eBay will take to make deceived buyers whole. I was debating bidding on that Hulk 181 9.0 but decided to hold out for a 9.0 with White Pages... this one hits close to home and I probably am not buying any books until this gets some measure of resolution.
The course of this ship is only going to be righted by confession, as it stands this ship is only going deeper into the storm…how long, how many books, how many era’s of books has this happened to??? Is he the only one, has heritage sold any of these…I have questions that are No longer conspiracy
He had a bunch of fake 9.8 Mark Jewelers Marvel keys (like 1st black cat) that he was selling online on Instagram and eBay. Those books would catch a huge fee on Heritage but he avoided that on purpose.
Not sure if anyone has asked this, but what are the chances that these books are Frankensteins? For the Hulk 181 for example... If it was a new submission, then what is the possibility that the green label cover was married to a lower grade raw book that wasn't missing page 10? I know with other books, there are other issues going on but there might be more than one type of scam going on other than reholdering a swapped book.
Apparently the guys name is Comicselect or Comic Select or username is briva3. Apparently he scammed me, I bought an ASM 194 cgc 9.8 newsstand from him. How could I sell it now? Hopefully I can get my money back for it from my credit card.
@@CoMoComicBooks so my credit card company is giving me my money back which is good. This guy is apparently local to me in NY thinking of going to his house and seeing what he has to say. Now I don't know what to do with my ASM 194. I don't feel right selling it as a 9.8 since I got no confidence that it's legit. The only thing I think I could ethically do is cracking it myself and selling it raw, or spending the 50 bucks to have it regraded.
Very informative but how did it get regraded and slabbed without taking out of inner well? Re holdering by itself would not change outcomes you have to submit certificates number when submitting to match uncles inside job at. CGC
That’s just it, we’re not 100% sure you even have to take it out of the inner well. Could just slide the inner with the qualified/lower grade book into the outer well with the existing label from the blue label/higher grade copy still in the outer well. OR the seller may have some way to seal/re-seal an inner well. We don’t have the details just yet.
@@CoMoComicBooks I know the slabs can be cracked as many do to get a bump after press and cleaning but doesn’t CGC seal the case in such a way they can detect tampering just throwing that out there love your channel
I have a major collection and this is a major reason why I’m terrified of slabbing my books ( I know the resell value ) but my books are mine from the early 70s collecting and not ready to sell but this isn’t good
My suspicion is that reholders previously were viewed as the lowest risk and therefore probably received the least through inspection or review by CGC. Moving forward, I would suspect that will drastically change.
Not saying who's right or wrong here or jumping on CGC's back here, but 2 things. Is everyone going to ignore the thicker black line (or nic or whatever) on the spine by Wolverine's arm on the book to the left with the side by side at 8:43. Futhermore, these comics were all wrapped the same way in back in the day, someone should check to see if there are simular marks on other books before jumping to conclusions. My take, I'd do a serious, through, investigation before making a video assuming this is the ONLY book that looks simular. That black thicker line says everything I need to know for myself. Just a thought.....
The game is rigged. The jig is up, but I'm not running for the hills. I've been doing my comic book thing for over fifty years, and I'll weather all storms. Merry Christmas brother. 💙🤘👍
That’s a pretty extreme take. Your LCS owner doesn’t exclusively sell raw books, does he? The overwhelming majority of slabs are genuine, but that doesn’t provide much comfort if/when you wind up with one that has been tampered with.
This isn’t a hard solution. I think cgc has to grade every single book that comes through reholder or not. If you send a reholder it will be graded all over again. That’s the only way to stop this.
There needs to be some sort of corroboration. Whether that is checking the graders notes on all reholder books to make sure the book lines up or something similar, they need to take it up a notch or two.
I have an interview with Steve Borock from last summer and he talks about that. It definitely has a purpose and it came out of the rise of the internet comic book market.
For CGC to be on the hook, there would have to be some evidence of them doing this maliciously. If anything, they need to revisit their workflows and fix the loophole that led to this, but in all honesty, they are likely to lose the most in this situation. Who knows what dollar amount this impact to the community’s trust in them will amount to. I suspect it will be more than a misrepresented ASM252 of IH181.
For sure. It’s easy to Monday Morning Quarterback or solve a problem once it’s revealed. Ideally, they would have caught this early on, but scammers are gonna scam and the best scams are the ones that they can pull off right out in the open and right under your nose.
This is why I only own one slab. I have said that slabs from the beginning are artificial price inflation and potential scam bait. I’m just going to stick to floppies and screw this noise.
I’m definitely not a slab purest. They have a time and a place in the hobby, but I’ve never understood the slab only (and drilling in deep than that the 9.8 only) crew. That said, people can collect what and how they want. One thing I am resolute about is my dislike of the word floppies. Single issue or raw are my preferred terms. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
The Situation cannot go away. Now, everytime you look at a CGC book you have to WONDER. I just spent 3 hours going thru receipts to find my CGC Spidey 300 to find if it came with an invoice from the scammer. Dont know his name either cause his books are pulled and his site closed on ebay. Anyone know his ebay name or real name. I paid 1400 for a Spidey 300 but dont now if it even has ties to him. See all the problems this mark jeweler fooler has caused!
The seller in question appears to have been selling on eBay since 2011. I don’t believe there has been any evidence confirming when this practice was started though.
Imagine having a gold Rolex, putting a gold Rolex in an envelope and sending it away for 6 months to sit around somewhere and then getting back your gold Rolex in a plastic display case with an arbitrary grade, you have no idea if it's your watch or even an authentic gold watch. How can this be a way to do business?
I sell On eBay and I sold a new mutants 98 cgc 9.8 and I feel the person swapped out the book with a lower grade and demanded his money back and sent me a lower grade in my blue label cgc holder. So I have decided not to sell anything over 200 dollars on eBay. This is sad and eBay should protect the sellers from this fraud cgc should make the cases where you can’t do this.
Hey, hoping that you can reply to this suggestion for everyone scammed by this seller. CGC has already given people a way out. I remember a video regarding a HULK 181 missing value stamp that was in an old CGC blue label. When the person cracked the book out and found the marvel value stamp missing he spoke with CGC about the issue. CGC said that if he had sent the book into them and they found the issue that they (CGC) would be on the hook. So that’s what buyers, who believe their book(s) have issues, need to do. Send these books back into CGC. If CGC finds any issues, within the blue label like restoration or missing pieces or pages, CGC should be giving that person the FMV of the book. Let me know if you think that it’s a good suggestion. Either way CGC has to do the right thing.
Plenty of horror stories out there, but as a % they are pretty few and far between. That said, when you are one of the unlucky few, it sucks. Little comfort in knowing most people don’t experience an error when it happens to you.
I’m hate to say this😊 … but the only way to fix this is to have CGC note it on the label that the book has been reholder (moving forward). It’s either that or they have to grade the book over again getting rid of the service. Now that the scam is public and nothing harsh happen to the dealer more is surely to come.
And as a result I think I’m going to hold off submitting until they figure this out-create so sort of safe guard. Bcuz if one guy is known doing it-I’m sure there are others who just haven’t been caught.
Definitely do what you feel comfortable with, but there should be a very minimal risk to you submitting your own books. I always recommend taking really good pics of books before you send them in, so be sure to do that if/when you do send them off.
it makes no sense to do a video highlighting a scam and not name the guy, regardless of google. This is why ive pretty much left the hobby, id still like to get my tmnt 1 first print and a detective comics 59 but i can live without them and if i bought them they would HAVE to come from a REPUTABLE dealer. honestly its not all on cgc. its on the flippers, the investors, and collectors as well. people have gotten to be such number chasers for a 9.8 grade they are doing things like restoring books with cleaning, pressing, and now there is some technique where they use some type of light to get rid of dirt or stains, all in the name of chasing that number on the top left of a plastic case. id almost bet "collectors" dont even look at the cover of a book anymore unless they got a grade lower than they thought they should have. they just look at that number at the top left corner. its sad. . everybody wanted to 'make sure' they were going to get the same grade when they resent their books into cgc for reholder or get a higher grade. this is the result. you wanted it, you got it. man, to think how many potential scam books are out there from how many years is crazy. im glad im out of it. its supposed to be fun, this isnt fun anymore but thats what happens when people started approaching a hobby like the stock market. this was bound to happen, and its sad.
In this case, it looks like it's mostly the same lame books, ASM 300 and Hulk 181. As far as comics looked at as stocks, I think swagglehaus is the perpetrator who really pushes that. Como has a better head, maybe because he's a dealer. I know their friends but it's true.
Tony, I hope one day you’re able to find the joy and excitement that, you’re right, should come from the hobby. I’ve gone through bouts myself where the rat race wasn’t fun anymore. I was buying almost exclusively for my business and realized I hadn’t bought anything for me in so long I couldn’t remember. On the not naming names thing, it’s a liability thing. We’re not lawyers and it’s better to give libel and slander a fair amount of distance, as opposed to opening yourself up to litigation. Thanks for watching!
@@matrix_comix oh yeah for sure, como is more in line with the type of collector i am,..or i guess was. i would buy from him. swaggle and automatic and comic book investments was more who i was referring to and not como.

There is a time and place for grading. I think in the 20+ years the service has been around we’ve just wandered a little too far away from what that original mission was.
Yeah pretty bad… I am not surprised… but pretty bad. It’s an easy fix. One of the old cbcs slab forms had the label sealed in the inner well. Smash the outside all you want, had to cut label out to swap em. CGC should steal the design.
The individual that's behind this scam should not be hard to find, cgc has to have his name and address. Also this is going to change CGCs reholder policy.
My question is just how LIABLE CGC is since this is, at a minimum, a failure on their part. With enough of this, it could seriously put them under and shut CGC down, which I don’t think anyone really wants….
They have some level of responsibility in that they didn’t have the proper procedures in place to prevent the scam, but ultimately they were the first person/entity in the scheme to be misled or defrauded. I’m sure they have an E&O insurance policy that covers them for instances such as this.
This is an easy fix CGC needs to put the matching serial number inside the the part that they seal the comicin that why you can tell it matches the label
PGX and CBCS should put the nail in CGC's coffin 😅. That scam is an inside job, most likely been going on for years. This time around the scam was caught.
All I have to say now is if I'm buying any big cGc books I am going to try to find all of this guys SALES and try to Find cereal numbers of that book But even then I might have to buy raw.
This is why Graded Comics have been bringing down the industry. STOP GRADING COMICS, they are intended to be READ! Same with Card collecting STOP GRADING CARDS!
Yeah , but this is a big trust issue , on top of existing trust issues as far as 3rd party grading companies. I say AI will be and maybe should be 100% used by buyers/collectors/grading companies and catching this kinda stuff.
Will EBAY stop allowing the sale of CGC slabs? Before anyone says "No way!" Yes, it's possible. Think about it... By now, EBAY knows that there are effectively fraudulent / bogus CGC slabs that were sold on their platform. Right? EBAY is a huge company, and they don't like noise, and they protect their brand and their customers (buyers). Right? IF they think that the genesis of the matter involves the CGC slab design and the CGC grading process, it will be game over. EBAY does not mess around - they don't permit anything related to fraud or fakes to be sold as real. If the CGC grade isn't even a reliable indicator of even the grade that CGC gave that comic (because there's no way of knowing if the comic in the slab is the one that CGC graded)..... EBAY could stop CGC slab sales with two lines of computer code until further notice. I think CGC is finished if that happens (and frankly, it kinda makes sense, given EBAY's past practices). Thoughts?
I would suspect that is a pretty unlikely scenario. True, anything can happen, but even after the previous issues other grading companies have had, eBay still allows books from them to be sold.
There's too much money in it for all parties involved. It's like greyhound racing, everyone knows it's bad for the dogs, but nobody's going to stop it.
I am currently filling my pants with something other than money with the news of this scandal. Not to be Mr. Doomsday but this is scary. The bottom could fall out of CGC on this one. All the haters have a huge soft spot to attack and rightfully so. This is a MAJOR problem.
This is a CGC Hater’s dream come true. The truth of it is, CGC is just a company run by humans and they are not and never will be perfect. Accidents and mistakes happen easy enough on your own, never mind when you have someone or someones actively trying to slip something past you.

I assume they will, as soon as they gather all available information. More info will come out, and they'll issue a measured response. The last few years have provided trauma, after trauma, who knows what the next tragedy will be.
Cynic that I am, I would not be surprised if CGC ended up announcing three things:
1. They have no idea who should be held accountable;
2. They are completely overhauling their security, authentication and grading protocols and changing the look and design of their slabs;
3. One of the changes they’ll be making is to start downgrading comics for production-related problems such as non-centered front cover art.
Potentially, these changes would relegate all previous CGC slabs to undesirable status, and motivate collectors to crack and resubmit all their more valuable comics.
@@reprintranch Only an idiot would crack and resubmit their comics to CGC in such circumstances. That said, there are plenty of idiots out there.
I’ve had a few slabs crack over the years, and they don’t tend to go back together. Is it possible that this fraudster has access to the slab cases and is simply swapping labels and moving inner wells?
I suppose it could be a possibility, but we don’t know anything for sure at this point.
If forgers can forge and fool museums, how hard is it to fool everyone with comics? Who knows how long this has been going on. I want to know how long has this been going on with CGC? CGC has to clean this up ASAP!
There will always be people looking to get something past someone else. No matter the subject. No matter the time. Scammers gonna scam.
Seems like CGC should be able to find out who has been submitting these books to them pretty easily.
@@Kaiju_808 i thought they did that anyway...
@@GeorgeThree They don't normally regrade during a reholder request. From what I understand, if the book is obviously got the grade it states, they will though.
I am so afraid that I may be a victim. Has anyone informed the fbi. This could be a case of both mail, fraud, and Internet fraud.
At this point can you really trust CGC to do the right thing if a book in question is sent to them? they might lie to do damage control.
Hopefully this all gets sorted out and it works out the way it should for everyone. I’m not holding my breath, but stranger things have happened.
They should implant 'INK PACKS' like banks do with stolen cash! If someone tampers i with the case, it sprays the book with BLUE INK!
That was my thought. I'm sure they're buying the cases from China. Someone found the supplier and paid someone a little extra Yen for a box of them.
You would still need the UV technology to seal them
A lotta collectors are going to look at their collection now and have massive anxiety, this scandal changes everything and now "doubt” will always linger over
These books & future slab purchases…it’s really scary to think off but can’t believe it’s happening,
Is it possible that the seller/culprit could have just switched out the label and not have sent it back to CGC or would that be impossible with the cases? Also, would the buyer be able to get their money back with the Ebay buyer protections in place?
Hard to say. The reholder process seems to be the key, because then the imposter book is sealed in and you have no way of knowing that you don’t have what the label says until you break it open.
Looks like CGC is liable in all of this. I suspect graders are taking the inner well wrapped books at face value when they put them in a new case, when in fact they are not the same comics.
Thanks CoMo your videos are always great and this is top notch. Also giving credit where credit is do is also a great thing you do !
🍿👀 - deeper and deeper we go!
On our way to Wonderland I suspect. This rabbit hole runs DEEP!
Now everyone is going to be skeptical of their graded books.
They won’t be doing this on 5.0 books , just the high dollar books and 9.8s
My suggestion is to stop qualifying books . If it is missing a stamp or coupon , it should be 1.0 incomplete no matter what .
I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but, instead of swapping the comic, wouldn't out be easier to just swap out the LABEL from one slab to another?
There may be some element of that, but ultimately it’s the same process.
Drew thank you for this report. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. ❤️🙏🌲
You’re welcome Dan! Thanks for checking it out. Merry Christmas sir!
CBCS used to heat seal the label to the inner well thereby eliminating the seperation of the label from the book. This was changed when they introduced their new labels. Maybe they should bring it back and CGC should adopt something similar.
That is likely going to be a leading issue as we work through this. We’ve got to be able to maintain the chain of custody for the book.
Are those old green label slabs UV sealed?
It ultimately falls on CGC to QC those books, if they re-holder them, they should be verification that it’s correct.

*_The "V" in Wolverine does not match up._*

I supposed it’s a possibility, but there appear to be multiple specifically identifiable defects that do line up.
Difficulty is nobody knows how widespread this problem is?. Its only likely to effect higher grade and higher priced slabs with custom labels so a relatively small percentage of slabs. But could there be other books that have been tampered with in a different way waiting to be discovered???..
Luke 12:2-3
Mark 8:36-37.
Amen.
It's all about the money now and days and not about the hobby anymore to appreciate and enjoy, It's sad.
Buy your books raw and do research and ask for pics!
I don’t believe eBay was involved in pulling the listings down, but I have no way to know for sure. Seller’s socials also went private.
Definitely a likelihood that some of them may be just that. We don’t know much of the particulars just yet, but hopefully more comes out soon.
What is the seller's name on eBay? I want to check to see if I've maybe bought from him before.
Apparently the guys name is Comicselect or Comic Select or username is briva3. Apparently he scammed me, I bought an ASM 194 cgc 9.8 newsstand from him. How could I sell it now? Hopefully I can get my money back for it from my credit card.
Sorry to hear that Quasi. Let me know what you find out.
The only thing I think I could ethically do is cracking it myself and selling it raw, or spending the 50 bucks to have it regraded.
briva3
Very informative but how did it get regraded and slabbed without taking out of inner well? Re holdering by itself would not change outcomes you have to submit certificates number when submitting to match uncles inside job at. CGC
That’s just it, we’re not 100% sure you even have to take it out of the inner well. Could just slide the inner with the qualified/lower grade book into the outer well with the existing label from the blue label/higher grade copy still in the outer well. OR the seller may have some way to seal/re-seal an inner well. We don’t have the details just yet.
@@CoMoComicBooks I know the slabs can be cracked as many do to get a bump after press and cleaning but doesn’t CGC seal the case in such a way they can detect tampering just throwing that out there love your channel
its probably a CGC employee
There is always a chance of that. Thanks for watching!
I have a major collection and this is a major reason why I’m terrified of slabbing my books ( I know the resell value ) but my books are mine from the early 70s collecting and not ready to sell but this isn’t good
There is nothing wrong with having a great raw collection. Most of my collection is raw books as well!
Are we to conclude that staff at CGC cant tell when they handle them, they can't detect a tampered case???? RIDICULOUS!!!!
My suspicion is that reholders previously were viewed as the lowest risk and therefore probably received the least through inspection or review by CGC. Moving forward, I would suspect that will drastically change.
If you want a book reholded then it should go through another regrade process. Would this solve the problem, I don't know.
Been thinking, maybe CGC would have to water mark the book in some way
Like water damage
The game is rigged. The jig is up, but I'm not running for the hills. I've been doing my comic book thing for over fifty years, and I'll weather all storms. Merry Christmas brother. 💙🤘👍
Merry Christmas to you too! I’m right there with you. Been doing this too long to throw in the towel at this point.
Best information video ever great detective work
Has anyone contacted the seller and got their side yet ? Would be interesting to hear their side .
My understanding is that the seller has pulled all of their listings and taken all of their socials private.
My LCS owner told me CGC books are all suspect at this point. Too much incentive for fraud with whatnot now.
What is the whole purpose of CGC ? The entirety of it's existence is to guarantee comic book condition, right ?
I have an interview with Steve Borock from last summer and he talks about that. It definitely has a purpose and it came out of the rise of the internet comic book market.
CGC should also be held responsible!
Outright fraud, law enforcement should be involved and CGC should also be held accountable.
This is why I don't like CGC. I can think of two different ways this could have been easily prevented.
Thanks for watching!
I bought a blue label 181, 8.5, exact same custom label, back in January.
Any way to know how long this has been happening?
The seller in question appears to have been selling on eBay since 2011. I don’t believe there has been any evidence confirming when this practice was started though.
How do we know that the 252 that was put in there is a 9.8? It's just some random 252 that was replaced for the mark Jeweler
That’s the point. It’s very unlikely it’s another 9.8. Likely just another copy that is close enough to pass for the 9.8, If you don’t look too close.
I sell
On eBay and I sold a new mutants 98 cgc 9.8 and I feel the person swapped out the book with a lower grade and demanded his money back and sent me a lower grade in my blue label cgc holder. So I have decided not to sell anything over 200 dollars on eBay. This is sad and eBay should protect the sellers from this fraud cgc should make the cases where you can’t do this.
I wonder if this is Craig formally from Brain Trust
They may well get the opportunity to back that claim up. Unfortunately, likely at a much greater scale than they ever expected.
I've been warning for years that CGC, others were too insecure to trust. How do you know you're getting your books back? You don't.
Tulip mania.
This is a real crime. This guy can get into serious trouble.
I sure wouldn’t want to switch positions with him. 😬
Pgx and cbcs with the comeback. Rip to the people that were swindled. My condolences.
What's the seller's store?
it makes no sense to do a video highlighting a scam and not name the guy, regardless of google.

CGC is a complete SHAM! Never would ever let them tough my books let alone PAY THEM a cent.
There is a time and place for grading. I think in the 20+ years the service has been around we’ve just wandered a little too far away from what that original mission was.
Cgc has so many problems...that they have moved back to their old smaller building...
Should be easy enough to look up the number and see how many reholders that customer has done over the years. That seller needs to go to jail.
Finding the guy and the cert numbers should be fairly easy, but tracking down all of the books is going to be a nightmare.
Will this bring down CGC?
Very unlikely. It’s not going to help them in any way, but this is a fixable issue for them.
This is an easy fix CGC needs to put the matching serial number inside the the part that they seal the comicin that why you can tell it matches the label
That could work, but if someone figures out how to swap books in the inner well, we’re back at start.
PGX and CBCS should put the nail in CGC's coffin 😅. That scam is an inside job, most likely been going on for years. This time around the scam was caught.
If this is true it's time to get the FBI involved.
Not sure what is appropriate legally, I’ll leave that to the JD crowd. Definitely shady and all hell though.
The junk slab era has began !! Rejoice my fellow collectors

Can’t hurt. It’s always good to do your research before you make a big purchase.
This is why Graded Comics have been bringing down the industry. STOP GRADING COMICS, they are intended to be READ! Same with Card collecting STOP GRADING CARDS!
"members of the community" are doing this - all of this is conjecture and video Columbo "proof" -
Is this person still selling on websites?
As I understand it, their listings have been pulled down and their social media has gone private.
Not now but years and years from now, most slabbed books will be mocked and high grade raw will once again rule!
I don’t know that I necessarily agree with that, but somehow the future always winds up being weirder than what we imagine, but in surprising ways.
What’s the seller name?
It’s out there if you want to know it, but we can’t share it due to it potentially opening us up to liability.
