The Republican leader went silent for more than 30 seconds after he was asked if he would re-run for elections. McConnell, 81, froze in July at a news conference in Washington, going silent for 19 seconds before being taken away from cameras.Subscribe to Guardian News on UA-cam ► bit.ly/guardianwiressub

I'm not a fan, I think he has been awful human-being who has brought about massive amounts of suffering in so many peoples lives. If he steps aside I'm sure he will be replaced with someone with the same political views and political goals, that's how the US political system works. But when someone is in bad health with this he should be at home getting treatment and not doing things like this press conference.

Firstly, this is quite disheartening for the poor chap. On a more serious note, when it comes to serving one's country, it's essential to possess both physical and mental capabilities. This requirement exists for a reason. Making decisions that could potentially yield significant consequences for constituents or while participating in widely governing committees necessitates this capacity.
There ought to be immediate and earnest discussions in both houses about this very subject. After all, we wouldn't allow an individual in the armed forces to be on duty if they were in a similar condition. Therefore, the same principle should apply to a State Senator.
