  • Graduates from Norland College go on to look after the children of some of the richest people in the world - including celebrities and royalty. Prince George has a Norland Nanny - Maria Borrallo who trained at the exclusive academy in Bath, Somerset. This year's intake of 'Mary Poppins' includes four men - the highest number of male recruits in its history dating back to 1892. Staff say 2017 is also the largest in the college's 125-year history with 103 students starting the coveted BA in Early Years Development and Learning.

Consider this. Mothers who have son’s may want their son to have a male figure to look up to other than their father

Think of them as butlers as well like Tomy Stark looks as his butler as father figure when his parents are out

A young boy needs a male nanny because they can relate more to them.

A nanny provides child care within the children's family setting.
Traditionally, nannies were servants in large households, and reported directly to the lady of the house.
Today, modern nannies, like other domestic workers, may live in or out of the house, depending on their circumstances, and those of their employers.
There are many employment agencies that specialize in childcare.
Nannies differ slightly from other childcare providers.
A childminder works out of her own home, operating as a small business; depending on the country they live in, government registration may or may not be required.
A mother's helper, who may live in or out, assists the woman of the house with general chores, as well as caring for the children.
The term au pair usually refers to an untrained young woman (or occasionally man), who comes from abroad to live in the host family and learn the local culture and language, while helping with the children.
A governess concentrates on educating children inside their own home, and a kindergarten or school teacher does the same, but in a school environment.

In Brazil we have laws for nannies or mannies (male nanny), in Past we call ama de leite ( translate like nanny of milk) and ama secca/seca ( nanny or nanny secca), today babá is a "ama secca" and ama is a nanny but you don't use much that word. But governess it's not a common professional in here, governess is governanta, but governanta may translate to butler or governess or housekeeper. So nanny is tradicional job in Brazil for centuries, however governess not. And I studied History and I don't know why it. And servant jobs is consolidated here, in big cities mainly, in medium and small cities they are rare, I suppose like any country.

I don't have a problem with men who want to be nannies... It may have it's advantages, perhaps in a home with many boy children. But the truth is, women are and always have been meant for the role of nannies because they tend to be more motherly and nurturing with children.

Why do the boys/men get to wear uniforms that look slightly old-fashioned but ok overall and not embarrassing while the girls/women must wear something totally ridiculous...?

I would never trust a male nanny, personally.
