If this lovely man were singing this song beneath my balcony, there would be no persuasion needed to move me to the balcony edge, for I would have melted to liquid and flowed through the bars!!!😊❤ Beautifully and so expressively sung!
Some people are used to tradition and do not listen to the beautifull voice this baritone has. He has a great talent and for me his rendition is superb.

I can't help it but think that you are sooo jealous, spending so much time watching Hvorostovsky's videos and looking for anything he does wrong. Everybody messes up the words time by time, but you don't fail to show up here.
If the ones of those who comment would have listened to one of his interwiews...There he says that noone should make his place(proffesionally speaking) by pushing others off the way...There is place for everyone who's got talent and each one should find his own way.And each one should grow by pushing himself further, higher,as far and even beyond his own limits. And not by pushig othest down.If only more people could undestand that it would be a better world.

It looks like Dmitri is yawning. It's actually an image often used by vocal teachers. In fact, the tongue position, facial muscles and high position of the larynx when yawning should be similar when singing. Besides, both yawning and classical singing imply no tension whatsoever on the jaws. What I hear is that Dmitri sings this aria beautifully.
frufruJ. More of Dmitri Hvorostovsky performances like this one, please. You are irreplaceable in finding real jewels of his stage performances. To me you are a saint for answering some comments below. Lots of unhappy people out there. I guess some humans love to be unhappy.
@Agorante You are correct, it is probably the slowest version I've heard, too. No, it would never be done this way on stage, because there it's part of the opera, whereas here it's an encore of a concert, as a serenade, out of context of Don Giovanni. It's interesting to hear such an experiment, isn't it? I must say I like it very much this way.
Pourquoi est ce tellement lent ? reveillez moi quand ce sera fini! Pour moi hvorotovsky ,qui est un excellent chanteur , participe à cette "formolisation "de l'opera ,tout est toujours pompeux rien n'est simple et naturel!
A significant part of being one of the most successful and respected singers singing today is the ability to choose the tempi that you feel are best, especially in Recital. Obviously, within the opera he would be tempered by a conductor and staging concerns, but here he, in fact, is Hvorostovsky, and he can sing it any way he damn well pleases. It's his recital, and this rendition is gorgeous - I disagree completely with your characterization as musically inert.
@qhsperson You may try to remember that, as this is being sung as an encore, he has already sung a full recital. I know people dont understand the work that goes into true singing, but a full recital is EXHAUSTING. Ill forgive Hvorostovsky one slip :P.
Non esser, gioia mia, Con me crudele! Lasciati almen veder, Mio bell'amore!
When I read that he'd "messed up the last line", I was expecting the worst…then he just carried on without even hesitating, and if you didn't know the lyrics you probably wouldn't have noticed. I think this tempo's perfect, especially for someone like him who can stay in the upper range comfortably for a long time.
The role of any great artist is to add his interpretation of any great work of art to the mix. That's why Picasso's work is far different than Rembrandt's.
It has been reported to me from several mutually independent sources that he was not 100% fit on this occasion. So, maybe he had to, a little, here. I saw him at ROH as Di Luna (from the second row!), and didn't notice the slightest sign of strain. If he did strain two times a week, he would have no voice in a few years. Besides, strain or no strain, he sound amazing, doesn't he? :-)
How suberb isn't this performance! I'm for ever grateful that we have so many recordings of his versions and interpretations. You have done us a great favour, dear frufruJ , your postings are high-class! Thanks a lot!

@BassoCantante19 I read the score and it showed it going back up to middle F...if you are talking about the F towards the end. I figured that they just made it a low F because they can, that's why I thought leporello might actually be a baritone role because baritones were called bass back then. idk. Thanks for your replies. I am 25 actually but my voice changed a little later so maybe I am behind since my voice isn't settled. I'm hoping that somehow I'll magically turn into a bass-baritone
It is slower than all version I know, I agree, but what a beautiful voice! Maybe a faster version would diminish this poetry, these emotions, would destroy the very essence of this music: Hvorostovsky's voice. I'm sure that Dmitri's Don Giovanni would be one of the most impressive of the last decades, equal to Mattei's or Terfel's. And I want very much to see this. It would be a historical event, I bet.

NOt overly but very self confident, in fact. Not closed to the self confident knowledge of others. That ´s why I express my self... Is nice to argue and to know other opinions or arguments. By the way, Hvorostovsky says that his teacher (teachers) told to him about his tenor voice. I think the problem of lazy tenor us not always just a problem of the singer... I point to teachers. twice slower than usual which is actually very good, it is intimite.
I don't understand why both Dimitri and Thomas Hampson can't seem to remember the words of Giovanni. That said, he's a true Mozartean!
Some people take music waaaay too seriously. "It must be this way, and if it's not this way, it must burn!"

He says that he felt better there. Nowadays, he's a 100% baritone, no argument here, I hope :-)
Farewell my friend....
Canta esta aria con lenta delicadeza, con suma languidez y encanto.
Tutto il suo canto è un incanto. E la sua pronuncia è dolce e limpida.
Una delizia per l'anima ❤️
he does get the words and the tune wrong at the end, he goes back to the first verse. He is amazing and one of the best singers in the world but he is not infallible.
Obviously his illness is already there since he forgets the verse.
@@vivalaliberta2639 maybe the alcohol is there
excelente, pero naturalmente su voz es muy poderosa para una aria tan delicada :)

@mittinka check again, genius. the words are "lasciati almen veder, mio bell amore."

Don't know why, in the end, he does not sing "lasciati almen veder, mio bell'amore".
Obviously his illness is already there since he forgets the verse.
ah, I see, he still sounds great of course :)
Why do I have the feeling that people who call him a "lazy tenor" are overly self-confident about their knowledge of singing?

@tommybaby124 I'm far from being an opera expert, but I was amazed at how he blew the lyrics here.
He sang the wrong words at the end (!), but nevertheless a stunning and moving performance, particularly for a concert version. Incredible!!
