I love this series. My only suggestion is to have a map view at the start of an episode so we can easily understand where each lost resort is located. Thanks for doing these!!

I love your videos! Another really interesting hill from the Thunder Bay area that could make for a great video is "Big Thunder". I believe it's the only Olympic sized ski jump in Ontario! There is a great amount of photos and videos of it online too! Thanks again for the great videos!

Being from Thunder Bay, mount MacKay was before my time, but have heard many a storys about what a nice ski hill it was. Thank you for putting this together and spreading some light on some Thunder bay history.

I grew up skiing in the Thunder Bay area in the 80's and 90's. Things were hopping at those resorts! Back then there was Mt. Mckay, Big Thunder, Baldy, Loch Lomond and Candy Mountain. Also Lutsen Resort was across the border in Minnesota. So much great skiing and long winters in those days. My family would buy a membership that would be good for Loch Lomond, Candy Mountain (and maybe Baldy as well?). We favored Candy Mountain.

Man it would've sucked having a paper mill literally just a few kilometers away. Great vid as always. I am actually suprised there was such a good resort so close to the thunder bay area.

Agreed, I can only imagine skiing with those odors would not have been particularly pleasant 😆

Candy Mountain closed in the early 2000s. There are currently people living in the site, the lodge and alpine village is still there. The lifts are still stanging, just without the chairs and one of them no longer has its cables taught.

Yeah, Candy and Loch Lomond were owned by the same entity. I've heard it closed as the owner wanted to concentrate all his resources onto only one mountain.

I’ve done google maps searches of the area in the past, and apparently Thunder Bay is home to another large abandoned ski area north of town, known as Candy Mountain. But very cool to see you’re expanding the series to Ontario👌

Candy Mountain was owned by the same company as Loch Lomond. I believe it was the early 2000s or late 90's when Candy closed for good.

@@Skier72 I believe Candy Mountain received Loch Lomond's Hall double after it was replaced with the current quad. Thunder Bay sure has some unique lost ski areas including Big Thunder which has its Poma double still standing since 1996. Crazy that Loch Lomond is the only remaining ski area south of Thunder Bay when back in the 80s there were at least four.

@@utahlostskiareas2036when I grew up there were 5 ski hills within 30 mins or so of thunder bay. Incredible to think now. The two that are left are Loch Lomond and Mount Baldy. Big thunder is a sad one. It hosted the 95’ world Nordic ski championships. Which seems crazy.

was a fun place , I remember going there on weekends and the line for the lift was so long it took and. 45 minutes to get wait in line to get to the top each time.

The ski area was used in the 2000's for high school and club bike events. There were some good dh trails there.
