- Exploring a transmission fluid leak on a 2006 Chevrolet Impala LTZ with a 3.9L V6. The dealership quoted the owner of the vehicle a few hundred dollars to replace the transmission oil cooler lines on the vehicle. Thankfully it was only a bad transmission cooler line fitting that was less than $10. I found the new fitting online at GMpartsgiant.com.

This is exactly where I think the leak is on the transmission of my 2008 Impala 3.5 engine. Thanks for posting! Well done video.
Mines is leaking too
Just completed this exact repair on my 08 ss not 5 min ago. May not have even thought to check this fitting if it had not been for this video. Good job and thanks bud.
JEPHRO760 glad the video helped you out!
Thank you sir , you answered my question , I was able to see there was a blue gasket inside the fitting. Time for me to go buy a new fitting. Awsome you guys share your knowledge with us. Many thanks
Thanks for the second opinion! You're still helping years later.
Wow. Thanks for the great vid and the part supplier comment.. Helped me out and got it done.
I've got the same o-ring leak on my 06 Duramax LBZ. I'm running heavy-duty 5/8 tranny cooling lines made by Fleece, and I couldn't find just the o-ring, so I ordered the connector for 14-bucks. Thanks for the walkthrough and saving me at least 100 beans!
spot on for my leak issue, i could not find the fitting on GM but i got it on Rock auto. thanks for the help.
you can remove the inside o ring and replace it. It fits in snug in the groove. Its seated deep into the fitting. The connector hardly ever go bad. just the rubber seal wear out.
Great video, I had the same leak, and repaired it easily in ten minutes. A repair shop mechanic wanted to charge me $55.00, just to replace an o ring.
Thanks for sharing. My mechanic was gonna charge me $60 to install the actual line. And the part was $30. So I searched UA-cam and came across your video. Guess what I changed this part you replaced by myself less then 30 mins. Save myself $90 bucks... Part was only $10...
mzshytown Awesome! Glad u saved some $$
Mines charging me 175 , I brought the parts myself 😂
You cheap bastard
Those are junk , cut that garbage off and get a double flaring tool , reflare the 3/8 lines the way there supposed to be ..and change the fittings .. Some new idiot gm engineer thought they could redesign the wheel again , but it didnt work worth a dam , they leak half the time ..what a piss poor design ..
ok that exact one was the problem, i went to dealer and got part for under 20 and i put on, looks like its fixed, great video
Easy one of the best UA-cam mechanics thank you soon much!!!!
Very helpful! That looked exactly like my 2000 Chevy van that’s having same issue. Will check it and order part tomorrow. Thanks a lot👊🏼👊🏼
Thanks for the info. It was priceless.🙏🏾
very clearly explained. thanks
Thank you for this video brother, exactly the problem I was having.
Great video, helped me with my wife’s 05 Grand Prix.
excellent! I do believe that is my issue.
Thanks. Great video!
Excellent video 👍👍
God bless you, thanks for the knowledge. Thank ya
Thank you soo much
Thank you much
Liked the simplicity of this piece and love the God Bless at the end. I thought that was a sin now days, you hardly hear it anymore. 😂 Well keep it up, no shame shouting out his name. Thanks! And GOD bless you.
Good video
Going to do this to my car, getting the DORMAN 800-637 as its the same part number.
Wow! I'm glad I just came across your video doing my research. If I remember correctly, the part number would be written on the part right? In that case I can order the correct part.
Any tips I took the pin out but the line won't come off. Its really stuck in there. Help would appreciate it
Have a 2010 police edition Impala that is having this issue. Mine is under the hood behind the driver's headlight and its leaking pretty good. Gonna look closer and see if this works. Thank you
The original fitting is a short threaded fitting, and the newer fitting is a long thread! The short threaded doesn't thread all the way not using all threads, the longest threads do use all the threads in the transmission! You have the better fitting sold to you by the dealership.
How did I get the second bolt on the transmission off
I have the same problem with the same fitting I notice in the new part they put some type of grease inside leave that in when installing the new part?
I removed the glob of grease out of the fitting before I installed it.
@@TheDaninator thanks partner!
hello i have a 2005 buick lacrosse with the same exact problem does the same process of replacing the fittings apply to my car aswell since they both have the 3.8 in it
Should be pretty much the same
Wow i have the exact same leak at the same spot, this looks really easy, thankyou Is it hard to do a transmission oil change on the 2006 Impala?
Thank u for sharing buddy. I'm finding oil in my coolant reservoir, could this be the culprit?
One of the main culprits for motor oil in your coolant is a bad head gasket.
It’s the intake gaskets
did the short fitting work or did u run into problems i see in the video there two different sizes
No troubles that I am aware of.
Only one half of the black plastic ring is going on the hose and it’s causing it to leak but I can’t seem to get it on
I have a 2008 cadillac Dts and looks like I have same issue , on top of trans looks like a fitting is completely missing. Car will not accelerate I'm guessing because trans feels too hot so goes limp mode
I have a 07 Dts. Line came off the front of transmission leaked my fluid out. Ima see what I can do today
Same here with a 2007 DTS. Slooow leak but adds up if the trans fluid is not topped off. Off to get the fitting now! TY to the OP for sharing this info!
did it have grease in the inside?
How much fluid came out when you disconnected that? I don't have a large catch can available do I need one
not much at all
The Daninator thank God, I'm not looking to drain and fill my entire transmission... The thumbnail made me think it would show me but then you cut that exact part LOL I could kind of tell it wasn't long but you never know. Thanks for the quick reply
Just a dribble but the line will continue to drop while disconnected
Mine seems to be leaking from the same line, but the side that goes into the radiator. Can I still do this same process to fix that leak? Will it spill a lot of oil or coolant?
Should be a similar process. Yes, you will spill some trans fluid.
i have a 2006 impala 3.5 with the same leak. I took it to a transmission shop because it would lerch forward from a stop position. they said I was losing hydraulic pressure I bring it back home and then I found this leak I wonder if this is why I was losing hydraulic pressure I will replace this fitting thanks for posting this video
Hi..! I have a cobalt 2010 and I took it to the dealership and they fixed the passenger side axle seal and now the transmission cooler line is leaking. I was wondering if there is a connection between axle seal and transmission cooler line? In other words maybe when they were trying to fix the axle seal maybe they damaged de transmission cooler line or that's a different thing? Thank you
I'm not familiar with Cobalt's but as far as I know it shouldn't be related. It seems to me either the dealership damaged the line, or just by sheer circumstance the line decided to start leaking.
Are both the fittings the same?
Was this causing it to lose pressure after driving a while
I have transmission fluid leaking under my car from near front of the coolant system. I have a 2003 Ford Taurus. Can someone give me feed back on what may be the issue? PLEASE!!!
Can't say for sure, but it could be one of the trans cooler lines leaking at the fitting or something.
2004 fordtransmission vent tube
You have a fluid leak
Hello, was the o-ring on the old fitting the same as the new fitting oring, or different?
Mike D I’m pretty sure it was the same
AutoZone had it, Dorman OE solutions part
You haven’t replaced the second one?
I'm having this problem...I bought the new lines and I think it's just the fitting or needs a new brand clip.
The other line is the fitting the same one as the one you replaced
🎉
Do you know where I can find those lines ?
Possibly Rock Auto dot com or a gm parts warehouse or something
Mi car drive not moving and its a leak transmission
Is this only valid for the v6? Or will the v8 ss model use the same lines & fittings?
V8 models should have the same fittings, they are also at most autozones in Chicago, where I am at
@@loverFIGHTER They're listed as two part numbers, with different sizes.
What about a 3.6 2012 is it the same?
Not 100% sure on that.
God bless you 2sir
one is long and one is short....
