CROSSING the BORDER of SLOVAKIA into HUNGARY | Sátoraljaújhely, Hungary | The Fluffies Channel

- The Fluffies took a day trip to visit the birthplace of Eric's paternal grandmother and had a chance to do something exciting: cross the border of Slovakia and back (Christian loves geography).
Sátoraljaújhely is a town located in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county in Northern Hungary near the Slovak border. It is 82 kilometres (51 miles) east from the county capital Miskolc and 257 km East from Budapest, capital of Hungary.
Originally, Sátoraljaújhely was part of Hungary, but because of the Treaty of Trianon, Hungary lost its northern territories. The new border was set at the Ronyva stream, splitting the city into two parts. One-fifth of the population and one-fourth of the territory of the town became part of Czechoslovakia. The newly created village got the name of Slovenské Nové Mesto ("Slovak new town") in Slovak; Szlovákújhely ("Slovak new town") or Kisújhely ("Little new town") in Hungarian.
Slovenské Nové Mesto is a town in Košice Region in Eastern Slovakia (480 km from Bratislava). Wine lovers will have to make a visit to the cellar of the Slovak Tokaj vineyards.

Hello Fluffies! I live relatively close to the border between Brazil and Uruguay. But I never had the opportunity to cross this border by walking. Even because, from my city (Rio Grande) to Uruguay, only by car or bus. Thus, people usually go straight to the other side.
Nice video, guys!
Hugs to you both!
+Wagner Ramires thanks for the comment, Wagner! We imagine people cross that border a lot and don't even care about that. Christian always loved borders so that was a dream come true for him.
Is there anything at the border there?
@@TheFluffiesChannel Yes, Eric! In the far south of Brazil there is a small town called Chuy, cut by the line between Brazil and Uruguay. I think the basis of the city's economy is commerce. Many Brazilians often cross the border in search of "alternative" and tax free products such as electronics, toys, and the famous cheeses, dulce de leche and alfajores (traditional sweets).
That's interesting. We hope we can visit someday
I'm sure that is another cool place to visit 👍🏼😀
Thanks - my grandparents emigrated from Sátoraljaújhely, too :-) liked & subscribed
Thanks Bernard. Where did they emigrate to? My grandmother ended up moving to Budapest.
@@TheFluffiesChannel They moved to a little further West - New York :-) Then to Australia. I hope that some day I will get to see Sátoraljaújhely!
We hope you do it!
Thank you bro.😁
My grandfather died in this town in a field hospital in 1914 on the russian front,, Guys can you give me some history on this event
Hi Frank, the Trianon happened in 1920, so your grandfather died at the beginning of World War I (1914-1918). Here’s a link for Trianon information bit.ly/3avG4ji

They should stay in hungary. The perfect food for their figures ;)
Lol..we will be back...
hungary lost 2/3 of its lands or 66% romania got a bigger piece what the country was left with
Yes, we know about that. It's something very painful for Hungary.

But let‘s not forget, that Hungarian Monarchs ruled over minorities and tried to extinguish their language and culture for 800 years. It‘s not like the territory they lost, wasn‘t inhabitated by Slovaks, Rumanians etc. etc. Just because monarchs ruled over a territory doesn’t mean the majority of people, who lived there, were hungarian too. Austria-Hungaria was a very racist monarchy, with a clear hierarchy, which ethnic groups are more worth than others. And the Hungarians at that time considered themself more worthy, than all others. So, it‘s about time to overcome this thinking and stop being a Hungarian nationalist or fascist. This, playing the victim of the Trianon treaty and dreaming of a Great Hungary „Nagy Magyarorszag“, talking of Felvidek needs to stop!! You are only deviding the people more. And stire up hate. There were Slovaks and Hungarian communities on both sides of that border, because Austria-Hungaria was a mixed ethnic state. There was no such thing as only Hungarian or only Slovaks, only Romanian villegas. People mixed and moved up and down that area. So stop the division already. It‘s not good for that region.
My grandparents and parents, by the way, are from the Slovenske Nove Mesto side. I used to cross that border many times. Back than one used to get a stamp in your passport, each time you crossed, so it was full after a year. Nice to see you fluffy guys hanging out there. Hope you had a great time.
@@thenicolascage4355 stated a short simple fact i wasnt nationalistic in anyway and you wrote a whole novel about how much the hungarians are bad and were allways bad only nationalist here is you also a person deeply complexed
@@thenicolascage4355 also slovakia today has minorities in almost the same percentage as austria-hungary had that was the reason trianon happened right? To ensure the freedom off all ethnicities
Trianon for slovakia when?

“Hungary” lost 2/3 is a simple fact?!?! “Hungary” didn’t exist back than. It was a multi mixed racist ethno-state Monarchy. And the Austrians were on top!! But according to you in all of todays Slovakia there were living only Hungarians. And after WWI, they took that land from “Hungary” and moved Slovaks there out of nowhere. Stop this nonsense and hate already!!! We have the European UNION now and all people like you can talk about is Trianon, how Hungary lost 2/3 and what is yours, yours, yours. You are so hostile towards others, yet claim to be the victim.
I wrote a lot about the RACIST monarchy of Austria Hungary and you just ignored it.
And no, not all Hungarians are bad. Nationalistic people like YOU are. My cousin (Slovak) married a Hungarian woman and they live happy together. Children speak both languages, no problem. Many just want to go on with their life. Yet people like you always need to create division, hate and problems. Stop it already.
Kisújhely is always belongs to Hungary.
:)

No, ... and you should stop your hostile views on the Slovaks living there. They are people with their cultural roots in this region too.
