Antoine Marfan was a French pediatrician. He was the first person who, in 1896 described a connective tissue disorder associated with continuous and progressive skeletal abnormalities. This condition eventually was named Marfan syndrome, after Dr. Antoine Marfan.
Marfan syndrome is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues of human body. Specific genetic mutations cause an increase in transforming growth factor beta, or TGF-β. As a result, abnormalities occur in the connective tissues.
The connective tissue disorders of people with Marfan syndrome are associated with certain physical characteristics and medical problems. Persons with Marfan syndrome usually have long arms and legs, long fingers and toes, flat feet, tall and thin body type, curved spine, abnormally shaped chest, and very flexible joints. The internal features of the disease are most often found in the heart, blood vessels, bones, joints, eyes, and lungs.
Marfan syndrome affects one out of every 5,000 people. People with Marfan syndrome may have children. If one parent has Marfan syndrome and the other parent does not, their probability of having a child with Marfan syndrome is 50%.
Marfan syndrome does not affect intelligence. Famous people with Marfan syndrome include Olympic medalist, Flo Hyman, American playwright, Jonathan Larson, former U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln, and Italian composer and violist, Niccolò Paganini.

My son was just diagnosed with this. He doesn’t have all of the characteristics. He has very flexible joints and long limbs but not super tall.

Usually, yes but no always. It's a variable Condition. Therefore, every one is different and no two people are alike, even in the same family. You can have it mild, moderate or severe.

0:52 - 1:15 Between the average regular patient and the MFS-plagued patient, both of them apparently portrayed to be male, I want to know what their heights are. Is the regular patient’s height around 5’ 8”, 5’ 10” or 6’ 0”, and is the MFS patient’s height 6’ 6”, 6’ 8” or 6’ 10”? Better yet, now that I look very closely, the MFS patient is really REALLY towering over the shorter patient beside/behind him, so my best bet is either 7’ 0” or 7’ 3”! Now that’s really tall!! ☝🏾😄

I’ve heard a neurosurgeon say that he automatically considers the presence of EDS or Marfan whenever he sees a male 6’2” and up.

Hey, why express your astonishment with just a profane word than "this is (insert word of choice)"?

+Machabe Leloka I know I should've, but I think that one word explained it all in a slightly humorous way. I haven't been diagnosed yet, but I have all the symptoms besides a caved chest, and in not sure about my heart.

BLUEDRAGONFLY So you have Marfan too? D8

+Machabe Leloka D8? I probably don't have it but my family is more likely to.

+BLUEDRAGONFLY But you do have increased height (between 6'3" and 6'8"), a thin, almost bony body frame (like you're a hardcore anorexic (pardon this form of comparison)), long limbs (arms and legs, fingers and toes), and flat feet, do you not? But of course, being a Marfanic doesn't mean your diagnosis is complete with all the symptoms the disorder displayed so far like congenital heart problems, skeletal discrepancies or deformities, lens dislocation, AND a caved or protruding chest. If so, then you're safe, for now I think. Oh, and about this (D8), this means astonishment or surprise, so here's a proper emoji of it and you can make a better comparison (😦) ☺️☝🏾️
