Bit struggle with bills sometimes. But I try to make do with clocking more overtime although can be really tiring as I become older (physical work, pulling hoses/pipes, climbing storage tanks etc).
I try to budget to the best of my ability. In my age group, I find the optimal salary for an unmarried individual is about 4.3K. This should cover savings, emergency funds, insurance, essentials and simple discretionary spending such as eating in mid scale restaurants, gifting, basic entertainment, etc
From personal experience, I'm saying 4.3K is because I have earned that amount with 13th month bonus + working many hours of overtime and it has been really liberating. Less stress on bills, I can afford to go out and socialize, eat better food until I spend the money than it's back to budgeting on a

Thank you for your candid sharing. From what I have learnt so far, incomes can vary very greatly from person to person. At the same time, income expectations too are very different for each person. What I have observed is that the happier people are those who are content with $X, while those with $10X but want $20X are the kinds who are often the not-so-happy ones.

How many regular folks can earn more than 10k a month without a professional degree or some degree of luck, not inclusive of investments?
I used to earn more than 100k/yr when working in USA until i decided to come back to SG since my parents are getting really old. Faced age discriminations in EVERY job interviews. Didnt get a job till a yr later. Salary not even half of what i used to earn.
I learnt not to compare. I did for a while and realized comparison will kill me faster if i compared myself with my numerous high flying cousins and friends. Afterall, i left SG for years before coming back and starting all over again.
Luckily i started out in USA dirt poor, was forced to budget, managed my pathetic salary after the heavy income taxes, for savings, rent, utilities and expenses.
Earning less than 5k/mth now, I'm debt free, flat fully paid, vacation 2x a yr, regardless of destinations. Can splurge whenever i want. Like my mum tells me, earn more, spend more. Earn less, spend less. No need a big house or car.
Be contented, keep everything simple and life will be easier.

Have a few expensive watches and toys which amount to 30k or so. Have one country club membership. Give my parents less than 1k each month.
I think that if you dont have kids, 6k is the amount that is comfortable if you're married, even with a simple car. If single, 6k is also ok without a car.

❤Let me invite any of you Finance people how good you are in finance related topic called GDP. How do you prove this figure from an Independent Audit perspective? You cannot. Its either you Want to Believe it or Not. So who knows your numbers?
I found that , and you too can do the same, no one we know has ever proven the gdp based on independent audit. This challenges your assumptions. No finance or economist lecturer has ever taught their students this.
Disclaimer: i also prefer to not have to believe/dont believe the gdp. I would love that gdp reported must always and can always be accurate /true. But fact remains, i have yet to find any economist who has proven the gdp , a statistic they cite everyday in their work. By proving, i mean audited by an auditor independent of the establishment for obvious reasons. Questioning is not allegation. Its based on the fact that something is not proven in said way and something unanswered. It does Not mean the gdp is inaccurate or faked. It is what is and i challenge anyone to challenge me.

10K? no seriously what are they spending it on? Am I missing out on life?
single or married (you'd get access to subsidised housing this way) - public schools, subsidised healthcare, award winning hawker food, world class public transport. what else is needed for a comfortable life? I really have no idea if this is actually the norm, can anyone enlighten me? I'm really speechless :O

    • @Sethisfy
      @Sethisfy  Місяць тому +1

It’s a pretty open-ended question with a high level of subjectivity.
For example, my definition of “comfortable” when it comes to getting around may be public transportation, but I have peers who would disagree and insist on public transportation every now and then, or even all the time. There are people who need/want to have a car. Then there are those who have a preference to be chauffeured and the ability to pay for that.
This applies to just about everything else in life.
Also, even with similar lifestyles, some may be thinking about just pure expenses. Some may think, I need to set aside at least 20% to feel comfortable spending the other 80%. Personally, I feel comfortable when I’m saving a big bulk of my income. That can also explain why some people’s ideal figure seems large.
