Harry
Simply brilliant as usual
Hi,
Just to let you know that this pattern works well even on Welsh streams.
I used a pinkish UV shade
That is a cool looking fly
Which Regal model is that you are tying with now? Don't you miss your Law?
I really like this fly, but as usual I don't have that Ice blue UTC. I wonder if a lilac marker over pearl would work? I am going to try it. Or maybe lilac over the quill and pearl. I'll let you know if it is close. All the best to you. God Bless, Sean
Hi Sean,
I'm using a Regal Vice with the Stainless Steel Jaws, I have attached a link to the vices for you to see it up close...There's a few different heads and as well models for a tyer to choose from, it is a simple vices but it holds the hooks extremely well...I thought I would miss the Law Vice but no, all I had to do was set the jaws of the Regal to an angle that I felt comfortable with and that was it....I do colour pearl tinsel myself from time to time and it does work so it would certainly be worth a try...
All the very best Davie

Hi Davie, I will have a go at tying this. Can you explain why some hackles are tied at the stem and others as this one are tied in at the tip

How would you compare your Regal with your LAW?
Major difference in tying........
Hello,Mr McPhail i heard a rumor you will be in Margaree Cape Breton Nova Scotia sometime in October,is this true? What dates and where if this is true? I would love to meet and shake the hand of a legend like yourself.Thanks.
Hi zymbotictoot,
It was true that I was going to a show called Flies Lies and Fiddles this month, this was organised by a company that I used to work for but unfortunately I left them in June so I'll not be there.. Here is a link to the show as it will certainly be worth going to as I do know that there'll be top class tiers attending.. facebook.com/events/584354888322342/?fref=ts
All the very best Davie
Thanks for the reply and i will be attending, too bad you wont be there but im sure it will be a great time.Take care.
Genial Davie..
Hello Davie,
Was re watching this one tonight and it caused me to think of a fly I've been using the past few years. I'm guessing you know, or know of, Johnathan Barnes. He's been on the British world team off and on for a long time. He has a view of flies and tying a person doesn't come across often. He has a UA-cam channel and a website: www.onstream-guide.com/ & www.onstream-guide.com/Featured-Flies.html
Anyhow... it's Johnathan's Black Magic Nymph I've been using a lot, and the wound CDC of it and the fly shown here that caused the connection for me. All together, some interesting flies.
Mike
Class!!!
A nice tie Davie. What vice are you using now?
HiTim Trengrove

Is that Wolf Bridge in the Intro Davie?
Hi Hugh,
It was, I just wish it was a bit closer to my home as I would be there every chance I could get..Happy New Year and all the very best for 2017...
ATB Davie...
HNY Davie - Although I lived in Loanhead, Midlothian at the time, I had a ST for Lamington & District for 15 years from 1975-1990; the very start of my fishing 'career'. In summer, we almost lived there, from the old ford above the Coulter Burn (the 'Major's Tomb flat). I absolutely love the place, and although I live in Jedburgh now, I promise myself that I will go back there this year (2017).
Davie, here's a link to a Scandinavian fly-tier talking about UV materials. He claims they don't offer any real advantage as fish cannot really see them. ua-cam.com/video/77QFATapVN0/v-deo.html What do you think?
Lovely little nymph by the way, has a simplicity that I like very much.
Hi Colin Macaulay,
I would never say anyone is wrong as I only tye flies. I have found flies with certain colours which throw and reflect light can be very productive but I also like very drab coloured flies without any enhanced colouring or flash both for trout and salmon Although this depends on the natural light and the colour and depth of the water as this can have a huge effect as well.. I did enjoy his video and what he had to say...
All the very best Davie
Thanks Davie, cheers for looking and all the best. Colin
