this man is so clutch. I am new to karting and am buying everything i need including my kart. Every time i run into a problem this guy has a video for it. Honestly thank you so much.
Just one other thing to add in for the viewers, there are different types of synthetic racing two stroke oils. It is recommended modern 2 stroke race engines to use what's known as an ester based synthetic aka as a group 5 synthetic oil. These oils use the latest technology in lubrication known as esters, they cling to metal and provide superior lubrication and are extremely clean burning (does not leave much or any carbon deposits). Older "full synthetic" oils are whats known as PAO synthetics or group 4 synthetic oils. They don't provide the level of lubrication as the ester oils nor do they burn as clean.
Good stuff👍 how about a vid of you out on track testing tyres and tire pressures and how it affects the kart through the corners. Also the best way to store them afterwards. Atm i have some really really old but good life tyres on my kart. It was very sliddy in the corners. Im a tall guy 6ft 2 and my seat is fixed lower than the chassis rails. Ive heard lowering the axle and lower the rear pressure mgt help get bite through the twisty bits. Ive bought some new tyres to eliminate the tyres as a reason.
Great questions. The best thing to do is go with new tyres first and then start thinking about your problems. This way you are correcting problems you have thought about and not problems you have introduced with the old rubber,
Derek you guys need to get the ratiorite cups over there if you dont, makes the whole mixing process so easy as it's already graduated for 40:1 etc based on how much fuel you're using
Hi Greg, great question, the richer the oil mix the more oil in the engine and less wear. You can foul spark plugs easier if you use a lot of oil. and there is a point of diminishing returns. I don't like to go less than 50ml of oil per litre of fuel. the max I have used is 70ml/1L. Give that a go and see if it works for you. But not for Rotax engines, use 25ml/1L max
Love the videos Derek, stuck a piston ring last week on my x30 so the timing of this video was perfect! Is there any truth that it's not recommended to swap from a castor based oil to a full synthetic as it can cause premature failure of the bottom end bearing (no idea what the science is behind being told this) or is this just one of those many karting 'wives tales'? Cheers!
Hi Master, Thanks for the positive vibes. No I don't think it's problem. If your rings are sticking, use the Maxima 927 or Motul GP2T as they are the best 2 I have seen to negate this problem
Thanks for another great and informative video, Derek. Related question: What do you recommend to use for gear oil in a Rotax? And how often do you recommend changing it?
Hi Jason, thanks for the positive vibes. We recommend using AFT. We recently bought some 'Redline Racing' brand ATF and that seems as light and slippery as anything. The balance gears on a racing 2 stroke engines aren't on a tremendous amount of load, so we don't use a heavy gear oil. And we change it all the time, maybe once every other time we use it, and definitely after we use them in the rain.
Hey mate love your work. For a X30 iame. Thoughts on: - PENRITE 10 TENTHS 20W-40 RACE CASTOR SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL? And Shell M Castor Oil. Looking at using them up and moving to 927 caster.
Motul 800 quality 100% synthetic ester, standards API TC. Formula developed for Motocross Grand Prix Teams. Compared with Motul 2t cards, API TC + standard is missing?
When it comes to running in an X30, is it OK to still use my Motul 2T (my norm mix being 50ml per L)? I’ve heard castor should be used for running in, is this actually necessary?
What do you recommend for vortex rok gp? Synthetic or castor? and what is the ratio. The manual said 40 ml oil for 1 liter fuel, should i follow the manual or mix it 50 ml oil for 1 liter fuel?
I am using the maxima 927 in my rotax senior, should I be using one of the others or am I ok? I haven't noticed any issues, but I am an old club racer so......
What transmission oil would you recommend for a ROK gp, manual says 40w90 but I have been suggested so many different brands and types Edit: the non shifter version of ROK GP
If it is straight cut balance gears it won't matter what you use as long as its light weight. I like regular Auto transmission oil for that exact reason. its also cheap in bulk so you can change it on the Reg.
hey recently got my first 125cc shifter kart .the thing is for the life of me cant find anywhere the specs online neither the what is the correct 2troke oil to use and the mix ratio..can you point me in the right direction? The engine is : Pavesi 125cc
Hey mate I was wondering what oils you would recommend for a Yamaha Kt100j motor I have just been using Penrite Race Castor for the last few races but its hard to find from where I am.
so my mates and i got a 125 iame engine i think its the parilla leopard version and i was asking myself what to do... the dude i bought it from says mix it 40/1, you say 20/1 and the iame manual says 16/1.... ours is an older engine i think tho so maybe its different?? help me out plsss
I don't think the will last long at 40:1, minimum of 20:1 (50ml's per litre). you can run 16:1 (60ml's per litre) as more oil will only help prevent the engine seizing.
To be honest, I have never measured the engine RPM of a YZ or any dirt bike engine. I will have to put one on the Project kart for you and let you know. And yeah, 20:1 for go karting use as the engine is loaded way more on bitumen than the when on dirt
I used to race that exact engine back in 2000..loved it and mine ran best on Blendzall Castor oil....Where are you getting parts for your motor? I want to rebuild mine and need bearings piston, ring and maybe a conrod...
i was told not to run castor 927 in mini rok as it is know to stick piston ring is this true ? just brought a heap of it and worried about using it now

Hey Steve, thanks boss. no to the 1o/10ths. yes to the 927. reason, ring stick.
Witch one of these oils would you recommend for the Iame ka100?
Maxima 927 or Motul GP2t
@@PowerRepublic thanks!
I use the motul fully synthetic oil in my x30 and never have a problem with it. I’ve never used the castor oils. Is that bad?
Hi Andrew, no its not bad, both oils work just fine. I have used both with out any troubles.
Will Motul 800 Off Road Oil be a good choice for rotax max evo?
I haven't used it before. Is it full synthetic ??
I wonder what the maximum rpm is achieved by the rotax max evo motor? Is 2% of the oil mixture enough for weekend use?

you can use either. both are excellent in my opinion.
I run a TM K9b what oil do you recommend? Also I have an issue where my tie rods hit the back of my calves when turning. What do you recommend?
you could use a pedal platform to lift your heels off the floor pan. I like to use castor oil in the KZ's
Best to use the mix as soon as possible petrol eats away the oil ,petrol is like a degreaser fins out the oil
thanks for the suggestion JR.
Is it better to use distilled water or normal water and why?
almantas zilys I use normal water and some race coolant. It just easier and always available
So for a prd fireball, 50ml per litre??? And what about running it in? I use a castor based oil btw.
that's is spot on, I do the same.
For every 4 letters for a DD2 Rotax how much oil would you recommend on the safe side and what make ?
2% oil mix ratio, so 20ml of oil per litre of fuel
@@PowerRepublic thank you
What oil ratio do you recommend for a vortex rok shifter?
20:1 or 50ml oil per litre of fuel

Rok Gp I would use 50ml per litre and Vroom Syncorse
Synthetic is preferred over castor for IAME
yeah that's what we use
I am using the maxima 927 in my rotax senior, should I be using one of the others or am I ok? I haven't noticed any issues, but I am an old club racer so......
I like to use synthetic oils in the Rotax. Just from personal experience I found it to work better for me.
I’m looking at using motul in my x30. What should be the ratio of mil to liters? Thanks

I was wondering about torque smokeless 2 stroke oil and supposed to gain a 1000 rpm ?.. is this true and do u recommend it... thanks for your time
I wouldn’t think so IMO. The rpm limit is generally set by the length of the straight and the gear ratio selected
