- Today I'll show you the easiest way to remove and install the front strut assembly in your 2007 through 2013 BMW X5 also known as the e70. why would you need to replace your strut? As you drive down the road and hit bumps you'll hear a little knocking noises coming from the front or especially if you hit a speed bump you'll hear a knock or thuds coming from the front of the car.

There is a torx 40 at the end of the bolt that you can insert to hold it still and keep it from spinning when removing the nut
yup saw that when I did mine I love those little details that make the job that much easier. most people dont catch em
Thanks for posting the video. I'm rather handy with a wrench but like you, I don't find many helpful BMW X5 videos on youtube. This one is most helpful.
This method is not recommended as uncompressed spring requires the drive axle to pull out of the cv joint and potentially damage the linkage. As annoying as it is, I always use a spring compressor to shorten the shock assembly enough to pull out of the bottom horse shoe cradle. The last thing I need is a leaky cv joint to deal with.
Also, the sway bar connecting link counter hold center slot is NOT an allen key but rather a T40 STAR WRENCH.

You are a little bit wrong :). For the sway bar link you have at the end of it a t30 torx and you can hold it. You can see it at 1:39 .
Mate love your video but just a heads up.
With the Swaybar link you DONT USE VICE GRIPS and break the boot .
At the end of the bolt ( the nut end ) there is an Allen key hole for you to put a Allen key in the end to stop the bolt form spinning while you take the nut off
Great job 👍 bro thanks for making this vid just be careful working while that jack is holding the car up safety first make sure to use the jack stand instead, what I do is I jack up from the center jack up point and put jack stands under it and then use the jack to release tension by moving the suspension up and down with the jack

Thanks for sharing this! Just a note about the sway bar link removal, there is a an Allen key slot at the end of the threaded portion. I believe it’s a 9mm. Use that Allen key along with an 18 mm wrench to losen it.

I have a 2013 x5 diesel sport on 20’s , did this improve or help your ride comfort mine seems to be too rough
How did you get the upper ball joint stud loose?
Just to add up for the safety issue. You have to put jack stand where the jack and jack the car in front middle part. What I do if my first time to remove, I take pictures with my iPhone for reference later just in case I forget the locations.
do you need to replace both sides on this or can those strut kits be just put on one side if the other has the orginal strut still on it...thanks..and how well are they holding up thanks...

U don’t have to take off the upper control arm
a tripod would make this much better, they cost $10
did you have to punch the axle out?
Gotta use the Allen key and wrench to get the sway bar link off

U do not have to rip up your stabilizer link there is a Allen key hole by nut put in Allen to grip
