If you can afford it, absolutely recommend you buy this VR2 unit. Yes there is "grainy" visuals but the stuff that is clear added with the 3d immersion completely outweighs the negatives. Motion sickness went away after 1 day and now the hills feel awesome, like a roller coaster drop. I've played this game since release and will now play with VR 95% of the time.

Yeah David as I said its a 50% visual hit to get a 100% boost in immersion...for some people that will be fine and for others a deal breaker.

Your explanation with the hand in front was spot on. You can see the front of the hood if you lift your butt from your seat. You can move your head to see around the blind spot or the pillar support.

    • @davidshekhter5284
      @davidshekhter5284 Рік тому +3

I'd say it's like a 33% hit overall but some spots up close are less, maybe 10%. Plus, the fun in the game is the driving aspect, if I focus on the interior, start looking around, bam! I miss a turn and crash so you end up really excusing the visual hit bc the racing is very exciting and requires full attention to the road and traffic which, to me, reduces the visual issues even more because the fun factor and immersion become the experience and not so much the gorgeous graphics.

pretty fair take on it. One thing you said on the negatives is that you couldn't adjust your seating position in the driver seat. You can adjust it by moving your head forward/backward/left/right to where you'd want the wheel to sit and then hold the options button and it changes the view to where you want in to be. It might take a couple tries but it's not to tough.

Depth perception is the key. When you play on a flat 2d screen you are guessing when you should hit the break, where in psvr2 you get true 3d and depth and you instinctively press the brakes when you feel you are getting close to a corner. It's a game changer for gt7 and can't imagine ever playing without it.

    • @wombleleaderracing6455

Your analogy about putting your hands in front of your face is probably the best way I've heard anyone describe the difference between 2D and 3D. All those things taking up real estate in 2D are now in different SPACES around you, and just like a car IRL, you're rarely bothered by the dashboard blocking your view.

    Nice review Womble
I will point out for the viewers, that cockpit view point is infinite, once you figure out how to set it, as you know
Some in car views show lap times, and deltas, but those glass gauges on the older cars are special
Finding the sweet spot in VR helps a lot on distance views, can't stress that enough, and is really the only issue I have with it
As with anything, the more time you spend with it, the better you get at working around the niggles here and there
All in, can't see ever driving a Gran Turismo game in 2d again

You got it spot on! I spent this weekend racing on GT7 using a controller as I always do. I use the bonnet view rather than the in car but I have to say, being able to spot your apex and drift on slower corners, particularly those before long straights, made my VR times quicker than my 2d records. When I switched from thumbstick steering to using the dual sense controller as a steering wheel, it became more natural and my times actually increased. I've spent ages trying to use the controller as a steering wheel but never been close to my lap times before. The screen tilting as the car tilts is a bit of a weird one, especially on tracks like Daytona where the car is at 45 degrees while you are still upright. Again, just a slight movement of the head and can see everything ok, just feels a bit weird. You definitely get that moving feeling when you first use the VR headset. As a VR noob, I found that it was only brief but the stomach sensations on deeper corners add to the immersion for me.
As for the screen details, I don't have a 4k screen so don't really notice it./ it does look a bit hazier than my VR experience. Have you made any changes from the default as there's some tweaks recommended on youtube to tidy up the res and make clearer. Fraid I don't have the link to these vids

@@wombleleaderracing6455 Hopefully there will be some tweaks in future updates. Guess they had to meet the PSVR2 deadline and software development typically creeps even the most conservative deadlines.
I think the view is probs locked to track to create that feeling of the car being pushed in that direction which would have a more positive effect in a shorter corner but is obvious when you are on a bank for a certain amount of time. I'm not really knowledgeable enough to know what the best solution would be but I'd maybe try a delayed return to centre or something. Maybe it works better of you have a motion rig

That's the biggest problem with people that are brand new to VR their expectations are way too high they are actually thinking what they would see on say 4K oled is gonna transfer over into a virtual reality world where everything is life sized, etc
The trade off in visual quality versus the immersion you get being in that actual world well for me is all worth it 👍

My experience is identical to what you said, the car up close looks phenomenal, blew my mind, but looking into the distance you notice the lower resolution, grainy image. I still don't regret my purchase, it's the equivalent of going from SNES to PS1. I just bought psvr2 gt7 and g29 wheel but after hearing how so many people say that after trying racing in vr, they can’t go back to tv. It kinda bothering me. For instance, I’ve loved racing games, since the early 90’s and always played with controller. After I recently started racing with a racing wheel, there’s absolutely no way that I could ever go back to using a controller. The difference in immersion and fun is ridiculous and I’m just a bit worried that even tho I’ll probably be disappointed with gt7 graphics/image quality, in psvr2, I may actually enjoy the experience, of being on the track, way more then playing on tv and if that happens, the only vr racing game , I’ll have to play, would be gt7. My only real issue that bugs me but seems fixable is the pop in. In racing I'm always looking down the road and the car pop in is pretty bad sometimes. Or rather the lod. At about 100ft the lod removes accessories like giant rear spoilers. Quite a few times the car is right on that lod point and it keeps appearing and disappearing. Similar with the background on some levels. Doesn't ruin it but would be nice if they fixed it by prioritising certain features on lods. Or use foveated rendering to improve lod distances depending where you look. Still super fun game but I wish the car accessories wouldn't suddenly appear on the vehicles when you get closer.

actually the scale of the interior is also a bit too small compared to irl, first thing I noticed going from monitor to gaming with the psvr2 was that the steering wheel suddenly got thinner and smaller, then I looked at the passenger side and noticed that the car felt waaay to small. I basically thought I could touch the passenger door without stretching my arm like I have to in a real car including my upper body, but here it was just too small of a distance.
The second thing I noticed is that the default seat position is just a bit too close to the steering wheel, but can be adjusted with the "options" button on the ps5 controller. But once u do that then the part of the view that is just a head of the bonnet get too blurry, like if you were staring further into the distance so I could not race like that not being able to race like that. I got a bit motion sick every time I race but it was a smoooth experience but all the scaling issues and the blurriness when one adjusted the seating position made be return my headset.

I suspect that the scale depends on how large you are, irl. It's likely that the in-car avatar represents someone who is larger or smaller than the player.
And the same goes for the distance to the steering wheel, except there's an additional variable of preference. I usually prefer to be close enough to rest my wrist comfortably on the 12 o'clock position on the wheel while keeping my shoulders in firm contact with the seat. Given that my wingspan is short, this usually means that the steering wheel is fairly close to my chest.

Tbh I can't say iv noticed...Will agree the driver looks pretty small, maybe he's a jockey...just for info steering wheels in many race cars are smaller than road cars.
I shall pay attention to scale next time I'm playing and see if I can see where you are coming from.

Absolutely. Been using mine with glasses and it's been comfortable.
I'm still looking to get some prescription lenses when they become available but that's solely from the mindset of not wanting to take any chances of accidentally scratching something. I don't think my glasses are that close but considering how much I foresee myself using it, better safe than sorry.
