you should watch star vs the forces of evil it’s based off a anime
Fun fact: when Dipper kills Wax Groucho Marx, he says, "Hey, why is there nothing in my hand?" That's because Disney wouldn't allow them to include Groucho's famous cigar, since smoking isn't allowed in Disney Channel shows, so Alex Hirsch just decided to draw full attention to it in the episode as a form of malicious compliance 😂
Omg that's beautiful. Thanks for that tidbit, it'll make me smile whenever I rewatch this episode again.
From what I understand a good alternate title for "Gravity Falls" would be "Alex Hirsch's Malicious Compliance".
dang put that goes up with “Not S&P Approved”
@@12thLevelSithLord Which of course inspired the spiritual successor, "Dana Terrace's Queerly Malicious Compliance" 😁
And also "Matt Braly's Completely Benevolent Complian-SWEET MOTHER OF GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
Mabel is actually a surprisingly great artist. Sculpting is *very* hard, so the fact that her sculpture looks so similar to Gruncle Stan is pretty incredible.
She's Always Been An Artist And Seamstress, She Made Her Own Sweaters.
My favorite joke in this episode:
Mable: “Your wife will be beautiful.”
Guy: “Yes!… but will she love me?!”
Whenever Gravity Falls had a guest star on the series, Alex would purposefully give them some of the most ridiculous and nonsensical dialogue just to see if there was a limit to what they would read for him. One of these examples is the line "llamas are nature's greatest warriors," which is said during the post-credits scene.
Sorry to say it, but I hate how the fandom heavily implies stuff from the series that are yet to come.
Please turn it down, you dont need to steer Kenny and Montana into a certain direction with your questions. They are going to figure stuff out on their own and probably prefer to not get spoilers
They’re so annoying
100% agree
I just got to that question and face palmed. 🤦♀️
That's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe they should retire the questions segment for this series.
The fandom is convinced its the greatest hardest to solve mystery ever so they love giving these hints
I'm still amused that they actually got the real Larry King and Coolio to voice their wax selves in this episode.
They asked William Shakespeare, but he wasn’t available, so they improvised.
@@0okamino
Strangely, Sherlock Holmes was unavailable too.
"In my opinion... This is an axe."
Lol
Genius! Why didn’t I see it before?!?!
This was the first episode I ever saw. It's still one of my favorites. I love how much Stan falls in love with the wax figure of himself, and the twist at the end is so well set up. And of course, you have the masterpiece that is "CITY BOOOY!"
Hey, it was my first episode too
If I hadn’t stumbled across this episode, I may never have given this show a chance.
Fun fact: I believe most of Larry King's dialog in this episode was written just to see if they could get Larry King IRL to actually say it
"City boy! City boy!" is still a running joke in our family. Sometimes one of us would just randomly say it and someone would answer from the other room... It also mostly comes up when we're gossiping about some "city boys" though
Same, except whenever one of us acts spoiled or says he’ll use his phone of laptop to do whatever they were tasked with 😂
This episode takes on a whole different meaning once you finish the series.
You guys were right about The joke “there once was a dude form Kentucky”!! Alex (creator of the show) wanted to put in the real thing, but when Disney was looking over it they said no way. Loads of little details like that
17:25 I imagine Alex Hirsch and the team probably intended for the line to be 'man from Nantucket' originally, but were probably told it to tone it down as it alluded to something too rude for a kids show. The joke is that Mabel cuts him off before he gets to the punchline, so 'dude from Kentucky' was probably the next best thing, and still kind of works.
There once was a man from Kentucky
Who sadly was never quite lucky
He found a nice girl
Who he thought was his world
But she left after one fucky-wucky.
According to some emails that Alex released between him and the Disney censors, the writing team actually realized “Man from Nantucket” wouldn’t be allowed so they always had it as “a man from Kentucky” however the Disney censors still somehow thought that was too problematic and Alex had to fight them to keep it in.
A few things to note.
One of the wax figures was Lizzy Bordon, who had the ax. Another clue.
the bats tattoo on the guy was supposed to say stab, but Disney no likey so Alex made it stab backwards.
Yeah Kenny, Larry King himself actually voiced his wax sculpture counterpart and so did Coolio! May they both rest in peace..🙏🏻👼🏼
Counting the nose in Toby's sign as a "foreshadowing triangle" might just be one of the most ridiculous things I've seen in my life
Ah...yes...the first episode that traumatized me and made me realize whether this was fully just for kids.
This might be a controversial opinion, but I think this should have been the first episode of the show. It really sets the tone for the rest of the series. A mystery that they are slowly solving, and when the answer is finally revealed, it surprising, but also seems kind of obvious when you think about all the clues we have.
The twins actually doing good detective work. They were wrong, but it's not because they're dumb. They just didn't consider the supernatural. That's really what the show is about. Trying to solve this big supernatural mystery that they have no context for.
Your description works perfectly for the actual first episode though. Not as well done but it’s still a mystery that Dipper attempts to solve and when it’s revealed the answer is surprising and yet makes total sense.
@@Jabberwocky415 Yeah, you're right. I guess I just liked this mystery more.
SPOILERS:
I love that Montana finds the band-aid on McGucket's beard so funny considering even HE points it out later in the series XD
YES I JUST REALIZED SHE SAID THAT AHHH!!
4:22 After all these years, I only now just understood the pun in Toby's name.
as a person who bearly knew english back when this show was airing I just now get these jokes 😂
"Well, this was a neat take on a wax museum-themed episode! Great jokes and character moments. Surprised they managed to actually get Larry King and Coolio to voice their own wax figures, too. Not to mention Grunkle Stan continuing to be the enigmatic but funny con man!"
First-time viewers of Gravity Falls after watching _Headhunters_
"Wow, that moment when Stan found his wax self murdered. That hits... so much different now.
Gravity Falls viewers when they re-watch _Headhunters_ after finishing the series and read up on the some of the major fan theories and analyses.
"BEST EPISODE EVER! 20/10 WITH ALL THE THUMBS UP! ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!"
Gravity Falls viewers when they watch *that* episode of Amphibia (especially if they had no foreknowledge of it coming).
You guys are just so adorable.💗 It makes me so happy every time Kenny goes out of his way to say, "This is my wife." You guys are _the_ most adorable couple.
That question about Dipper and people not believing him and him usually being right makes absolutely no sense with this episode. He was completely wrong in this episode about Toby Determined lol
I hope you’re watching the credits all the way through because every end credit scene is extremely crucial to the plot
This isn't even true what are you on about
honestly a little supriced you didn't even think of the wax statues as suspects with how often you pick up on things early
How Stan reacted to wax abe lincoln being melted was so iconic and he actually sounds concerned about him with looking john millks booth
I have a bit of a fear of ventriloquist dummies too, and it also started with Goosebumps.
I thought it was clever that the episode was about Dipper and Mabel doing some good old fashion detective work (nothing weird yet), then when the living wax statues reveal happens, the 'leader' and the one Dipper has a final showdown with is Sherlock Holmes; the greatest fictional detective of all time. (I don't remember already knowing that he was voiced by John Oliver. He's pretty awesome).
"Five nights at Freddy's?"
"Well, _that_ was fun---"
Montana stares, jaw dropped, at the camera, silently asking, _Did you guys just hear him say that, or was it just a weird delusion?_
There's an episode of the Twilight Zone with a similar elements, called the new exhibit; and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it inspired this episode of Gravity Falls.
It's about a curator of a wax museum (specifically a section devoted to famous serial killers), who moves the wax figures into his basement after the museum closes down; he volunteered to do it, due to an unhealthy obsession with the figures. After awhile, strange murders begin to happen in the curator's house, and the evidence points to the figures being responsible.
My immediate reaction to the organ donor questions was a different explanation. Asking "Do you wanna be an organ donor?" raises the grisly thought of one's own organs being removed. But asking "Do you wanna opt out?" feels like asking "Do you want to be the one who's not being selfless?". Just a thought
Well, now I know where the city boy!!!! Meme comes from. 😅😅😂😂
7:29 STOLE IT RIGHT OUT OF MY MIND😭
13:53 PHAHA as a fnaf fan, you got me with that one😂
14:10 oooh interesting. I feel like he’s going to like a certain episode👀
22:42 You make an excellent point! I feel like this is a great habit to have in life, trying out different things. It’ll not only enhance your brain, it’ll also give you the opportunity to figure out what you love doing most, whether it’s painting, skating, singing etc. Mabel definitely excels at doing just that in almost every episode. She’s always trying out different things, letting her creativity grow in many fun domains!
i saw this episode with my country's dub, and it's like... Top 5 most memorable parts of my childhood
the comedy, the mystry and characters all of them are just perfect here !
omg kenny! funnily enough slappy the dummy (the ventriloquist's dummy) was one of my biggest fears as a child. because of him i developed an intese fear to those things and dolls i general.
Sounds like something a responsible parent wouldn’t want you doing.
Montana always has such interesting fun facts. I love it. You go queen!
I'm so glad you guys are enjoying this series so much already! It only gets better and more interesting as the story progresses. I'm excited to see your reactions in the coming weeks!
John Oliver killed it. "You really think you can outwit me, boy? I'm Sherlock bleeding Holmes! Have you seen my magnifying glass? It's enormous!".
Mabel knites her own sweaters
Starting a sick day watching gravity falls with the crew felt like Saturday mornings as a kid again, thanks
CITY BOYS WE UP!
3:24 grunkle Stan's reaction here was priceless
It’s almost like he saw someone else instead 🤔
From everything I am reading in the comments I am surprised Disney let Gravity Falls run as long as it did. Alex is so petty sometimes. 😆
I love how they are literal children and the only compitent people in town.
I remember commenting that I think you guys would love this show when you finished ATLA so it’s so fun to see you do it now! especially since it’s my favorite show :)
That was actually coolio that voiced himself(rip)
Oh dang, I really really love y’all’s answers to this weeks questions. 👀✨
Were they made aware of the decipher puzzle element at the end of the episodes?
You guys should wait for the end of the credits,at the funny small clips after each episode. There is a code, its the 3 letters baxk code you can do it really easiky with sites but there are mysteries
“Your wife is gonna be beautiful.”
“Yes!… but will she love me??”
Relatable
Not Kenny calling Montana "Internet Explorer" 😭😭😭
Whaaaatttt?!?! You guys are watching Gravity Falls???! bro THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST CARTOONS ever. I’m so glad you are watching it. 👍👍👍👍
2:23 Rest in peace, Larry!
the whole why does it matter if I'm GOOD at something I'm doing it for FUN really resonated w me. i like to draw while i 420 and one day lately i was getting down on myself because i didn't feel like i was improving much and i said to myself, who cares? i'm drawing because i like to draw and i'm having fun.
Discovered the channel through the Gravity Falls series and I LOVE your videos 😊
I love y’all’s content I’m glad I got to see this I hope y’all have a great day/night 🤍
CITY BOY! CITY BOY!
24:00 “Jack of all trades is a master of none, tho oftentimes better than master of one”
CITY BOOY
Tobey Determined is called that because they his name was “to be determined” and they just never came up with one!
I thaough it was a reference to the original-
There once was a man from Nantucket,
Who kept all of his cash in a bucket,
But his daughter, named Nan,
Ran away with a man,
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.
"Llamas are nature's greatest warrior"
That line was added just to have Larry King say it
4:17 No! Do Not Put Mcgucket In The Slammer!
16:10 i love his line sm
Have you ever discovered the codes at the end credits, cause I've been curious about it
I love how realistic they made this episode about how useless cops are in general.
IDK where your mind is but to me a head hunter has always been a form of native tribe, often African or up in the Pacific who chops off peoples heads and displays them on posts and wears there skulls or shrinks there head as art. You know this is true historical fact because you used to be able to buy shrunken human heads at the souvenir shop if you ever visited an island and they were in movies all the time.
CITY BOY
They weren’t able to show it explicitly, since this was a kids show from the 2010s, but those 2 cops are a couple
10:01 - *“The band-aid on the beard is always gonna be funny.”*
Uhh… You might wanna wait for the episode in Season 2 that explains why it's there, before you say that.
7:37 You Sure About That, Dipper? 😏
Aot part 3 dub finally gets released on crunchy roll on 10 September ❤ waiting for ur guys reaction soon
1:58 Which Makes Wax Figures More Creepy Than Dolls.
I just realized something crazy that I’ll mention on one of the last few episodes
Commenting here so I get the notification cuz now I wanna know 👀
Look closely in the back of the crowd at minute 4:14!
ik im late but there are secretes within the outros
how long will the full 2 seasons take to finish 😳
Almost a year in total, I think.
Fun fact: Wax Sherlock Holmes is voiced by John Oliver, aka Professor Duncan from Community.
Try unhearing that.
Edit: Dang, didn't expect Kenny to point it out.
18:35
Finally Attack on titan english dub. I cant wait
This is the saddest episode 😢😢😢
Gravity Falls will definitely need the 'this is not a kids show' counter especially in S2 also spoiler:
This episode hits way harder when you realise the reason Stan was so freaked out with the sculpture is because it makes him think of Ford.
These two should watch Steven Universe
Nice
10:15 - Right-handed players typically *catch* with their left hand, so I take issue with this one.
1:44 At Least She Doesn't Have Bad Breath.
4'15"... Look at the scene in some episodes to understand how amazing the show is...
Maybe because Stan was so sad about wax Stan murdeded is because his twin(not my theory)
wtf worst theory i’ve heard about this show yet doesn’t even line up with any plot points???
YALL SHOULD WATCH CYBERPUNK EDGERUNNERS!!!!😢
pls watch the post credits scenes
John ritters son is the voice actor of dipper john ritter threes company tv show problem child movies real men movie
"Disgruntled, that's the word I'm looking for...more like dis-GRUNCLED."
😑
Goodbye.
Hi
You guys should really check out Lego Ninjago
4:14 There was a futuristic looking guy in the scene last episode, where we were introduced to old man McGucket now he was in this episode too
3:54 They Are Uncontainable In Excitement. 😒
Grungkle Stan has a reason why he’s attracted to this wax figure
Why is Kenny afraid of ventriloquists? Is he afraid they're going to throw their voice at him?
4:14 BLENDIN!
