- Drag Race All Stars 3 is known as one of the twistiest seasons of them all. The crazy self-elimination by frontrunner BenDeLaCreme, the last minute jury twist, and the return of a previous winner! Even Trixie Mattel coming off as the eventual winner rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way. Lots of aspects came together from producers to try and make this season bigger and better than All Stars 2. But based on the fan reception, it failed on that front.
So where exactly did producers intervene to help move the season along? In a season that is notorious for its riggory, I go episode by episode, ranking the queens' performances in each challenge, and determining how the placements should have went if the season was judged fairly. How will this affect the final 4? Will fan favs like Trixie Mattel and BenDeLaCreme still make deep runs in the season?

Chi Chi was dealing with a degenerative disease during the season. I agree she wasn’t at her best, I’m just letting you know because you mentioned you didn’t know what was going on with her. She mentioned in interviews that her mobility was limited and the cost to do AS3 because she know this was her last opportunity to showcase her drag before dancing became almost impossible. May she Rest In Peace.

This might be true, I'm sure she was feeling the effects by then... but All Stars 3 filmed in 2017. She was diagnosed in 2018 and didn't publicly speaking about losing her ability to dance until 2020. When she agreed to do All Stars 3, she had no reason to believe her ability to move was in jeopardy.

Honestly I could see her coming back for an all stars in the future. She’s gone back to drag. Right now she obviously doesn’t need drag race but maybe in the future.

I'm genuinely grateful that the viewers had one more opportunity to see her growth since season 8. Such a wonderfully charming and talented Queen.

@@NyanGiraffe The only time I felt pure favoritism was for Shangela and Dela in the Divas Live challenge they got the parts with the most comedy and it was very unfair to the girls and Shangela didn't even get choreo

@@nicoboggs1517 Also Bebe took her wig off and won a lip sync on her original season, again removing it at the emotional peak of the song. And it was clear she had NOT kept up with Drag Race (and hey, she was working, good for her to be too busy for reality tv).
She did that on purpose because she knew she had Shanglas name and didn’t want to reveal it

There’s literally only one challenge after Manila leaves though? Don’t get me wrong it was an awful challenge but it’s literally that and then the finale

The double win was a mistake.
I could see Thorgy coming into Snatch Game as Stevie Nicks just to rub it in that she was still there and absolutely killing it.
It would be tough, but I’m sure Thorgy could pull it off better then the producers.
In the Kitty Girls challenge, they had to create characters and play them in performance. It wasn't a branding challenge, so Trixie and Bendela were the best.
Indeed. It was Girl Group Challenge. I totally disagree with DeLa in the bottom. To my opinion, Top 2 was DeLa and Trixie or BeBe. But it's your season DragDetective and I respect it ! Condragulations for all this work ! It was a huge amount of time I guess !😘
I mean it's a girl group challenge first and foremost. So I think top should go by performance. Aja and Bebe had the best performances with Trixie just below.
@@c.k.8585 Creating a character was part of the challenge, mainly because it was a Spice Girls-inspired challenge, which had distinct and specific personas, so that should also be taken into consideration, not just the quality of the performance.
I’d argue that it was Bendelacreme and Bebe at the top. Bebe’s verse was fucking hilarious.
Idk not to be the bitch but I really thought Bebe deserved her top placement. The level of iconic is far too much with Jungle Kitty. Was it an original character? Nah. But it was done in a way that was impossible NOT to praise and give it a top placement (in my opinion)!

I think Bebe would've eliminated Thorgy rather than Trixie at the Girl Groups episode, but honestly Thorgy in a top 4 on AS would be a dream so I'm not mad lol

I love how you said this season didn't have a ton of rigging, then proceeded to have a top 4 that only included 1 of the original 4.
If you change 1 elimination it has a massive knock on effect on the rest of the season as it’s all speculation lol of course it wouldn’t play out like this exactly

What happened to Thorgy during Diva’s Live was a travesty. Beside Trixie who brought her own guitar and was asked to use it during the show, every queen with props were given those by the production.
I should say that... Trixie at the talent show is SOOOOOOO underrated. Pure talent

Season 3 is hard because
-the weird writing that they’re trying to make you think Trixie was failing in the start (she wasn’t)
-the Aja of it all
-the whole note issues with Shangie
-Bebe truly coming back and somewhat harming her reputation

I always love seeing Aja getting the justice she deserved on that season, I think you hit all the marks with her placements, and her being top 2 with Dela is SUCH a good storyline specially when they were somehow rivals.
5:00 Latrice Royale also dropped her flag in the variety show but they didn’t air it. The face Manila does when Farrah falls is actually from the time Latrice dropped her flag.

I only agree about Aja. I think you gave extra credit to Thorgy (not that she doesn't deserve it), but I think that you were kinda biased with her. Bebe keeping Thorgy over Trixie? I don't think, especially when Trixie did that good. I agree that Aja was mistreated.
I think there’s a tendency to discredit Trixie a little more than is deserved because she’s done so well and stans do overhype her to an extent. A lot of DDs critiques of her are very valid and I agree with them, but then they seems reluctant to really praise her when she did do well. Like she did so well in the girl group challenge and had a win, idk if at that point in the competition Bebe would eliminate her from that challenge when she’s against someone with no wins and a low placement. I liked Thorgys verse but I don’t think it would have been enough to save her over Trixie that episode. And in general they tended to place Thorgy in the higher ‘neutral’ positions (when she was in a middle placement) and Trixie lower ones. But it’s all personal opinions and we’ll never know what really happened bc editing, I enjoyed seeing how it played out (and honestly as soon as the decision was made that Dela didn’t eliminate herself then she was going to win regardless 😂)
I knowwwww, to me the video stopped making sense when Thorgy was kept over Trixie. Also, Thorgy doing better than Dela on both the girl group thing and the soup design challenge felt more like wishful thinking from a fan rather than based on her actual abilities.
It's still pretty fun to think about how the season could've gone, but I think the Top 4 would probably be Bebe, Aja, Shangela and Dela, not Thorgy (if the producers weren't trying so hard to rob Aja, of course).
Trixie's verse and look is soooo iconic. Beauty and intelligence in one combined. She should have been on top that episode

I feel like Ben still would have offered herself up for elimination so somewhere she would have told Bebe to cut her and Bebe probably would have taken her out instead of Trixie. Then everything would play out the same probably with Trixie and Thorgy being in the top in the acting challenge. Thorgy would probably win the lipsync against Trixie but regardless it's just natural at this point to send home the returning queen. Then we end up with a top 4 of Trixie, Thorgy, Bebe, Aja and if we just take the two with the best top record then it would be Aja and Thorgy in the top 2 with the winner being... I guess the one with more wins since they're both tied in this scenario of points per episode, which is Aja. That's my take on it at least.
I disagree. Ben didn’t have bottom placement originally, and kept winning consecutively, While in this scenario, not only does Ben not get consecutive wins, but also has bottom placement. So, I dont think we would get the Ben Delachrist moment.

I will never get over Aja unsheathing a sword, that matched her outfit mind you, and then just throwing it off the stage. She really was so chaotic
Hear me out, Trixie would be number 2 to Kennedy for the bitchelor. What held her back was milk and now she has thorgy, Dela even said like she felt like she took trixies win. With a partner that’s better at acting and better in a duo I think she’d for sure be above dela because she wouldn’t be getting talked over and annoyed at the stalker girl.
Also from comments from Trixie and Katya, the actual bitchelor shot was quite longer and we got a fairly edited cut. They said that Kennedy's full performance was EVEN BETTER than what we got to see. So perhaps we got to see the best parts of Ben? Trixie was struggling to get any joke in because of Milk.
Assuming that Thorgy would do great in literally every improv/acting challenge is giving her way too much credit considering she went home on a improv/acting challenge on season 8
All Stars 4 is such an underrated season, its only bad in the last 2 eps

The issue I have with the Divas challenge is that probably Thorgy knows more about Stevie Nicks than Todrick, but they spinned It into Thorgy being difficult.
I do want throw a wrench in the whole “Bebe threw the lipsync” thing that everyone assumes when Dela eliminated herself.
Had Bebe done what she did at regular bar, everyone would’ve loved it. It was an emotional song and Bebe taking her wig off just added to it. Not to mention that Bebe did the same thing on Season 1 which won her the lipsync. While I can’t guarantee Bebe didn’t throw the lipsync, I do think that Bebe taking her wig off wasn’t her giving up.
Not to mention the fact that Ru has made plenty of LSFYL calls that don't always make sense with the edit. They didn't need Bebe to "throw" the lip sync to call it for Ben.
you can add this in with the fact that bebe likely hasnt been keeping up with drag race since she won (ORNACIAAAAA) and dewigging yourself being a faux pas is mostly a drag race thing, so she genuinely thought it was a good move
In terms of MYLK as Celine Dion, I can say this: Celine was one of the last concerts I saw before the pandemic started. And I know for a fact that Celine does not over-accentuate herself and her movements when she's performing, unlike what MYLK did. Even when she's hitting the big notes, she keeps her body more natural and smooth. The most I think she does is hold her arms out or something, but she doesn't dance around or go crazy on-stage. What MYLK was doing, it was more like Lady GaGa, who actually gives a big and crazy performance on stage. But with her, even when she's doing her slower or mid-tempo songs, she goes over-the-top in a way because that's how she presents herself on stage. She has the big voice, she has the big costumes and productions, so it makes sense for her. Celine isn't like that. While she has the poppier songs sometimes (That's The Way It Is being an example), her physical performance isn't as loud or over-the-top as someone like GaGa. So no, MYLK did not give an accurate Celine performance by ANY stretch.

Celine is known for hitting her chest, living her music and doing crazy faces and sounds. She also throws her arms out frenetically. She's kinda funny and crazy, I've seen her concerts many times.

@@styles2535 Better than Aja you mean. Shangela was nothing special in the Snatch Game, she had one prepared joke that got laughs that she forced in the game and that was really it. Aja did a solid job and had a superb runway. Still, I do think Thorgy would do well at Snatch Game. Heck I think she did as well as Bob in S8 but then kimonogate happened so neither Thorgy or Derrick even had a chance.

@@styles2535 Oh yeah, Thorgy would easily be better than Shangela. And really Shangela seems to be best with a script. She was bad at the improv challenge this season she won the improv challenge in her season with a performance she had probably thoroughly scripted, if not already performed and was bad at her original Snatch Game as well. Her best skill is scripted acting and performance.
So basically the only challenge thorgy would do bad on this season is the one she went home on?

It’s so obvious you don’t favor shangela or dela when you place them lower or bottom for challenges they actually did over Thorgy in a make believe scenario. I almost stopped watching when I reached the Soup Can/Studio 54 episode, but continued till the end just to see the outcome. Yes, I agree that Dela would have won if she didn’t self eliminate herself. And don’t get me wrong, I love Thorgy and her career, but I believe that putting her in top in almost every challenge in a make believe scenario was weird. But was interesting to watch

Finally someone who agrees that shangela did not 'kill' as3. Everybody talks about how shangela was robbes and she dominated the season, but the thing is, she basically performed at a solid 3/5 for the entire season and the girls around her bombed. The 9bly challenge she did really well in was the one set up for her to win and the talent show. Shangela should of done great in challenges such as the bitchellor, girl group, snatch game and the final acting challenge but instead just came off as okay in all of them, a competent performance while others floundered.
Dela was hands down the best winner of the Kitty girls challenge. Of all of them she had the clearest character, a good verse and great look to pair it with.
i love the drag detective, but I find it so funny that his unrigging of any season is just rigging it for his favorite queens😭😭😭😭
I honestly think Trixie was a pretty solid winner but the production had not set her up to win in the beginning so she was severely unscored at time making her track record look much worse than it should be

Bebe's Talent Show is severely underrated. Personally the 3rd best of the week.

Hmm. I agree with most of this but I think you favor Aja a tad in this. Not in the way you place her in the challenges but in the way you talk about her. You said Aja’s look she made in the Warhol Ball was one of the best looks made in a design challenge. Choices.

Honestly, I agree. Looking back, Shangela did meh in the challenges. I didn't think she was that great and if it wasn't for the heavy favoritism of her throughout the season then I believe this would be the result

I live for Aja and Thorgy as part of the top 4. Ignoring literaly everything, my ideal top 4 would have been Aja, Thorgy, Dela and Shangela, just based on personal preference.
BeBe was actually my least favorite out of the kitty girls challenge. She didn’t really write a verse (when half of the verse is utter nonsense I call it a cop out) and her lip sync was off.
Also the challenge didn’t ask queens to brand themselves to their drag personas. It was to create a Spice Girls style character. So to criticize Trixie for IQ Kitty not being “in the Trixie brand” I think is kind of a silly and unfair critique. Tbh out of the queens only really Trixie, Ben, Aja, Thorgy and sure BeBe actually accomplished what was asked of them in that regard.
Aja said pretty recently that her two faves to win AS3 were herself and Dela so even if she didn't like her she'd definitely have kept her
I disagree with 3 things. Trixie should have been in the top for the kitty girl group challenge. It’s not about branding yourself it’s about creating a character. She did that so well. I think while I do enjoy Aja they were given a little bit too much high treatment/praise. And I also think Ben would have still gone home the episode they did. I think she would have asked to go home because she wanted to be done or something like that.
Truth be told, Milk almost fell because her heel got stuck in the tambourine when she was dancing in the back of Thorgy's performance so both Kennedy and her should have been in the bottom. I completely agreed with the video in that part.
Season 3 had so many design challenges Shangela really said "Enough." with that Disco Ball.
To me the best talent show performances are the ones where queens show something you normally wouldn’t see on Drag Race. Performances like Thorgy, Gia, Latrice etc stand out for me because of that. Seeing a queen just sing or dance or do comedy just doesn’t interest me as much because you see that on Drag Race normally
Literally I want from a future all stars, is Thorgy getting the credit she deserves and being ATLEAST top 4.
I know you really like her (same as Jan on both seasons) and that's why you weren't able to recognize their Meh performance on the season, but I think Milk should've been in the bottom every episode she was on
AS3 is one of my all time least favorite seasons. I thought maybe I was just disappointed at the time because it was such a downgrade from AS2, but I rewatched all the AS seasons recently and it only reinforced my dislike for the season. There was just a lot of uncomfortable moments in the werk room plus Thorgy and Aja's eliminations were super frustrating. Not to mention the horrible twist and the fact that Trixie won without actually having a win the whole season. "Aw Jesus, gross" pretty much sums up the whole thing for me.
I feel like they were able to justify Trixie winning without a lip sync win since just recently Sasha Velour had won without any form of main wins at all. Trixie had done pretty good throughout the season and it was evident a few times she was being held back by certain things. (Milk ruining the Bitchelor, Shangela's fat suit "comedy")

Kennedy wouldve def sent Aja home, I wouldn’t want her to but Kennedy would’ve never sent home Chichi, as we saw with Roxxy emotions play a big role and I doubt she’d take into account Aja’s slayage thus far since she did mediocre in the challenge
No shangela was better than Aja in Snatch game. Aja just responded to the questions with famous Crystal Labeja jokes. Shangela was doing more improvisation by making jokes on the spot and volleyballing with Rub

i do think this was spot on, much as i would still have liked to see Trixie make it to top 4. I was trying to predict your eliminations just based on your bottom 2/3 and got it right every single time. I think if all of this had happened, AS3 would be SOLIDLY better than AS4.

wait. Milk not being #10 for the All-Star Variety show is _really_ telling. it screams bias. + i’m not being shady. just making a point, i guess? i mean to put the…paper doll…act(?) (again, not being shady, don’t know what to call it) above actual performances//displays of talent (singing, dancing, quintessential lip-syncing)?! really? seriously?
i’m supposed to believe + accept that Milk’s velcro-ripping//paper doll thing is not only talent, but more talent//better than actual singing, dancing, gymnastics?! b|c Chi Chi’s wig was flat + her dance shoes were ugly?? i-huh??
even worse, audience reactions//engagement should not be a factor _at all_ since we have absolutely no idea how the audience actually responded to each performer. we only know what the editors//producers want us to see. we already know since they mix up the footage of the audience to suit their narrative. it could have been silent in the studio, w| not a single audience member blinking or breathing during Milk’s time on stage.
but….you know that. your channel is about the manipulation, the riggory, exposing the edit. so…why mention audience response as a factor to justify Milk’s placement? this video is supposed to be about what it would’ve been like w|o or despite the editing + the video starts by….ignoring that//using it to justify a wild decision//placement.
i’m confused, i am. actually…no i’m not. Milk is the definition of privilege. walking, talking, breathing, velcro-ripping privilege. the problem is, it’s so insidious it shows up + is subconsciously (giving the benefit of the doubt here) upheld//perpetuated even in instances designed to call it out.

I just Googled Dela’s birthday to discover she is a Libran, which is totally what I guessed. She’s pleasant (even congenial 😉), calculating, extremely talented, intelligent, very concerned about fairness, and hates confrontation. Interestingly, she has the same birthday as Chi Chi, who contrarily to Dela, is always on the bottom.
this was such a good video i would’ve loved to see the season play out like this. i feel like dela would’ve asked the top two to eliminate her in the girl group challenge though, it would make sense with her whole story line as it’s the main reason she chose to do that character in the first place
I was with you until the Dela sending Shangela home bit. I see her sending herself home again at that point.
I honestly thought Shangela was horrible at the Bitchelor. Chichi at least got a laugh out of me. Also on Kennedy, I think Trixie and Katya have said that the full performance was even better than what we saw and a lot was cut. I would have had Bebe keep Trixie over Thorgy. The longer Thorgy stayed in that workroom, the less Bebe would like her:) If you kept Trixie there, then it would be Dela and Trixie top two on the next challenge, Dela would cut Shangela and then win the season. I think though that you should have tried to keep the jury twist.
I’m sorry, but Aja, yes could’ve made it longer, but I think was given a few too many wins in this video. Wins that Trixie definitely deserved. I think Trixie was amazing in almost all of the challenges (obviously not snatch game) and during the actual season I think she earned more wins than she was given credit for.
