I read the Centaur Carbon was faster than the ACS CX...If I remember right the Centaur was 195+ on the "walk the talk" bow test on Pirates of Archery...

Wow, quite a bow! Like you, I'm not into all synthetic materials in a bow, but this one is beginning to sway my opinion.

What is the role of the archers paradox to the energy transfer of the bow ? If it is very aggressive it will slow the arrow. And if it is smoother it will not slow it as much. Maybe something in that which affects the speed of the arrow.

I think what you meant was ten grains per pound not inch

Great review, Grey! I have a question about the brass nock point on the string. If you replace it with a nylon thread (dental floss) marker, would that reduction in total mass of the string promote faster acceleration of the arrow? I don't have a chrono or I would try this myself. Thank you sensei.

You should have your chronograph 're-calibrated or check the arrow weight again. Every test I have seen with the Centaur Carbon has been around 190 Fps. For the set up you are saying.

I would look at calibrating the chrono or if lighting issues are affecting the accuracy. 175fps at a 28" draw using 8.7gpp arrows seems very low for the Centaur.

A flatbow as short as my recurve is mind boggling

Well is it 8? Gpp or gpi?

I assume you've tried some modern type recurves. They typically kick over 200 fps at 40 pounds, and most of them are really pleasant to draw. Anyway, I shot my bow at less than 150 fps and I really felt it. And disliked it - the arc of the arrow shot from 30m was just waaaaaay to high.
PS. I can't stand my curiosity eating me up. I'm wondering how much would a lighter arrow and a continous loop fastflight string change the speed. :D

Tomahawk have 185 fps with 9gpp , and that is serial bow

Without these beaver puffs on your bowstring the arrows would be much faster.

Pro Chrono is not a good chronograph. All those $200 and under chronographs read slow. Next, why is he shooting 8grains per pound of draw weight when nobody hunts with 8 grains per pound. Oh now, further in the video he says they are 8.7 grains per pound. Why doesn't he just say arrow weight and draw length?? The Centaur Triple Carbon Elite tested 190 at 9gpp 50 pounds at 28 inches, and that is before Jim Neaves improved the limb design. I have on built AFTER Jim improved the limb design and it is 59 pounds at 31 draw, and it is a shooter! I have a LabRadar chronograph, and it is a $600 doppler radar chrony that won't read 10+ fps slow like these Pro Chrono's and Chrony brand and Caldwells and Pro Chronos do. Jim recommends 10gpp or better. On my 59 pound Centaur Triple Carbon Elite, Jim recommends 12 gpp which is 708 grain arrow. My arrow build is likely to be 658 grains up to maybe 685 grains. I will chrono it once I have my bow tuned to the arrows I am building for it.

:-)) :-)) :-)) Yes, I am not too! I did not even noticed a gay there. looked only at the bow :-) So, it is not a Gay Porn! It is a Bow Porn!!! ;-) Most of all I liked the slow motion flight of the arrow at the end of this video!!! How it bends in flight!! This is what you're told!!
