Spindle Spotlight #13 - The Spindolyn!

- In this Spindle Spotlight I am featuring the Spindolyn designed and invented by Cady May. This unique spindle is a truly supported style spindle and is a great tool for those looking graduate from a suspended to a support style of spindle.
Also, I misspoke in the video; when you are support spinning your hand will never be down by the base or the bowl (I blame the cocktail I was drinking during the filming). You will want to keep your flicking hand up near the top of the spindle-sorry.

Spindle Style Pros:
completely supported
spindle and bowl all in one
speed varies based on "flick"
consistent spin
balanced spin
super easy to get started
can spin any type of fiber
custom options available (contact maker)
Spindle Style Cons:
not readily available
does not hold a lot of fiber
short shaft
beads in this particular base are awkward
easy to over spin single if you aren't paying attention
hook seems redundant in a fully supported spindle
This video contains no paid endorsements.

I'm so glad I found your channel through this series, I've been learning so much from the videos!
Thank you for showing this spindle. I don't hear much about it, and they are fabulous.
I have one I bought last year and I love it....
Thank you so much for this! I am so enjoying this series! I have one of these and it’s challenging for me. I keep wanting to lift it up 😊
Thank you so much! 🥰
I believe it is spurlitzer spinner
Correct, they are called spurlitzers. I have seen these and they remind me a lot of the Mayan rope spinner. I have not used one, and unless I suddenly find one in my collection, I don't think this will be a tool that I feature. Not that they aren't great tools, but they are not as easily acquired here in the states as other types of tools.
Is your base stuck to that pillow? I have mine stuck to a piece of wood and in hindsight I think that was a bad idea
No, the base is loose in the pillow. At the time I ordered this one, it was the only style available.
I wonder if this spindle would work for cotton?
I've used mine for cotton
Yes, this will spin cotton, but I honestly prefer my support spun tahklis or my espinner.
Have you heard of the spur loser spinner
Please may I ask more about this? Tried googling but couldn't find anything
