I’m back at interviewing people in NYC in 2022 to try to guess how much people make in a year working in New York City! I ask questions like, "what's the most expensive thing you own" & "are you happy?" Their incomes varied a lot which was interesting to see…

Some parents do. I figured its not that weird thing. Most of providers offer family/group plan(typically cheaper than a single plan) which they probably kept it since the guy was in middle school or high school. Unless parents are hardly making the living and really in needs for the 50 bucks a month.. they just go like 'We will just pay. Dont worry separating out of the plan' Frankly a lot of kids around me with jobs still has their phone bill paid by their parents lol

Did some job hopping and lucked into a lead role now 3 years in.
I did work with some psychology grad students in the HCI lab; it seems like an easier, more interesting and more relevant route but I think you need a graduate degree to be taken seriously as an applicant. Plus the earning potential is lower while you're waiting to break in.
My best advice is to read some Don Norman and Jakob Nielsen (they have a great website) and make a portfolio with 5-10 of your best sample designs, along with a story focused on your design reasoning for each project. Good luck!

Im taking the leap, going back for a second bachelors instead- in Computer Science. Looking back, 17 yr old me wasn’t confident enough to pursue it even tho I took and passed all the “right” AP courses in hs. But now, I’m willing to pivot to tech even if it means starting from complete scratch( literally have 0 knowledge of coding, data structures, tech in general ). My goal is to eventually get into Front-end Web dev but that’s way after I learn everything first. Wish me luck, any advice would be greatly appreciate. Thanks for reading ! 🙏🏿

Like any big city, depends on how much you can tolerate - smaller / older / shittier places? Living further out / long commute? Never eating out? You can struggle in NYC with 70k if you don't make compromises. I have a software friend who made 150k+ share a place with 4 roommates and lived in the living room with a curtain over it back then. Did that for a year to pay off his student loans and more, moved to a tiny place with his gf (made more money at that point, with his gf dual income of 500k+), saved up super fast and bought his own big place. If a dude making 150k is ok with 4 roommates being in the living room, or making 300k (or 500k+ with gf) with just a small studio / loft, nothing stops people making 70k to not struggle. It's just about what you value / compromise. Lol
