Under every Metallica live video, Jason is the most often mentioned member of the band (though it's been 20 years since he left).
That's because Trujilo sucks.
@@OwnMySunrise Rob is a nice guy and a skilled bass player. But Jason was something more, that's why everyone misses him.

I can’t pass any Metallica gig from late 80s-90s without mentioning the importance of Jason Newsted. He added heaviness with his bass and power with his vocals. And his professional attitude kept Metallica going after Cliff’s death.
Love Jason's bass being the loudest thing in the mix. Makes you realise just how heavy Justice could have been! Also miss James' long hair!
100% with you.
Why was Jason’s bass sound little to non existent on AJFA?
Bigkidstudios23 they wanted to let Jason know that he was the new guy so they cranked it way down
@@Bigkidstudios23 Because Lars was a dick who couldn't hear his precious drums in the mix

Jason Newsted with Metallica is my Metallica. He always gave his best. Legend
Same here man!
Agreed
Amen. Yes Cliff is Jimi Hendrix of bass but I don’t look at is Jason replacing Cliff. He might have been the next bass player but Jason brought a different energy to the band. Jason was the bass player I grew up with and while I love Rob and he is also a great bass player, man I really hate Jason had to leave .
ur trippin rob is the shit
I liked him too, but honestly Cliff was a much better player, and wrote amazing bass lines...the only other that compares is Les Claypools writing.
i'm 41 years old and i miss the black album era, i miss jason with his long hair and headbanging, i miss 90's, i miss Live Shit: Binge & Purge , God this was my times of adolescence, long live //Metallica\\
I'm 44yrs old next week and my first Metallica show was this tour in Toronto. Just a Fuckin Great set up and set list, back when the guys were Killin it!!! Jason was by far the best Bass Player (R.I.P Cliff) and Back up singer and then some. Miss the good ol days when they were the Machine. I have seen them 15 times and the last time was the Hardwired Stadium show and it was Pretty Fuckin Good I must say. I still have faith in the boys and hope to see them again soon.
I'm 55 years old from Sweden.First time i saw them live was on a vacation in Los Angeles July 24, 1988,
Monsters of Rock at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. 80,000 people.
When Metallica came on stage, shit got CRAZY !!
People on the field started throwing their chairs toward the stage and all of a sudden,
chairs, bottles and more flew everywhere in the air.
Next the fences that separated the stands from the field were being torn down and all hell broke loose !
Metallica had to stop playing and told everyone to calm down before resuming.
Van Halen, The Scorpions, Dokken and Kingdome Come also played that day but,
Metallica Crushed Them All !!!
you miss your childhood, dude :) same here

@@davesparks4046 Hey bro can you tell me a song name where is Cliff Burton playing his guitar? I just don't know about Metallica a lot. :D
Sure, Jason wasn’t Cliff, but his stage enthusiasm and love for the music is something to be respected!!
I love how James and Jason growl like a boxer, bulldog or a pug in a lot of these 1980s and early 1990s concerts.
Jason's stage presence proved simply irreplaceable, Metallica was a band with two frontmen!
Sadly the egos were just as irreplaceable
and why did he left then..?
Dude ! F@ck yeah !
Not to mention his bass in the justice medley; crazy to hear how good the bass could've sounded on the whole album!

when u see this lineup with "Jason" u be sent to a different reality ..u r absorbed into the vibe u stay there until the show ends ...Metallica with Jason is the" Metallica" for me
Jason was the ENERGY and the source of ON PITCH backup vocals. It's actually derogatory to call Jason's singing backup, because he added a whole new dimension to Metallica that hasn't been matched.
Seeing Metallica live in the 90's has to be one of my best ever memories. So awesome, and that their performance is here on UA-cam is even better so I can show the next generations what they missed out on.

John Fielding They aren’t taken down for me
I will always miss Jason. The reason I watch Metallica's old stuff is just to see his energy and power on stage.
I'm currently living and teaching English in Cambodia but Muskegon Michigan is my hometown. I remember being at this concert. It was a huge deal for metal heads back then!
We got high before the concert, extremely drunk after, and enjoyed every minute of the show itself! 👍😃🍻

@@avidahiya437 Yes he was and still is.

Yeah, that solo was eally good, loved the Orion tibute
For me Jason was the best bassist for Metallica because he brought in something more than just bass, he had an intense, intimidating stage presence and incredible backing vocals. He simply made Metallica way more badass and a song like Creeping Death became his own. It has never sounded as good live as it did with Jason.
Deathshuck and I’m glad that we can hear Jason’s bass in this mix so well, it’s doing the justice for Jason
I think Metallica was very lucky to have the bassists they needed at the right time. Cliff was highly innovative and knew music theory, which was necessary for the new band. He played a huge role in setting Metallica apart from other bands of their time and making them unique. He probably would have continued to do so, but, you know. Jason, as you said, had that energy and stage presence. Rob has the skill to do Cliff's bass solos well enough - most of the time - and to keep up with the other guys. He's good enough for an established band at this phase.
@@lorigoshert6667 I think you're exactly right. Cliff's knowledge of music theory probably pushed the band to try more complex arrangements, and if you look at AJFA, it's a further development of the sensibilities established on MoP. AJFA has insane time signatures and could even be considered prog-metal, because of how complex it is in places. When Jason joined, he became part of a more musically developed band. I have to say I like Rob, but in some way I feel like he never fit in with Metallica, he has kind of a different vibe. He's still a monster bassist, but Jason fit the mold so well that when I look at him perform, I even forget Cliff was ever a thing, no disrespect to him of course.
Cliff for me was the melody king, best bass player for me period. Jason never really got accepted in the band fully but love his energy and dodgy side shaves he had with his Kirky perm albeit long. Jason had good stage presence and loved a joke making the shows special.
Also Whiplash! Jason made it into a whole different way more intense version
90’s performances are so badass. So many prolific bands. No phones. 100% kicking ass.
"It's not who you know, it's who you know."
- James Hetfield, 1991.
Jason's energy was always amazing and heartwarming. nobody can be with that energy again in metal

Jason Newsted will always be the reason why I fell in love with Metallica, I mean, look at him. What a beast on stage he was. So sad, to see the only support he had in that band was Kirk.
So true
Rich Evans Sad but true
what happened? I'm out of the loop
When he left I just couldn't listen to them anymore..
@@DFWTF Jason had another side project called Echobrain. James found out this and basically "recommended" Jason to leave that project, stating that Jason could not be able to be compromised with both projects. Jason saw it as the last time he was disrespected by either James or Lars and quit the band.
James looked like a lion back then. The stache, black tank top, black pants, power stance, can't beat it.
Jason was the reason I started exploring Metallica, though he has not written much of their music, his live performance makes it feel that "Jason is Metallica".....
Agree with you on that, freaking live beast!

I wish some of the polyrhythms in entire solo were on purpose not by accident.
ANGUS YOUNG OF DRUM
Biggest metal band ever? I think iron maiden would disagree
Respect for getting lucky and being in the one of the greatest bands but no respect as a drummer. The whole solo is cringe at best.

How about asking Jason to record an intro for the next Metallica Monday? Don't think it's gonna be a big deal for you, but for the fans - absolutely.
As long as it is used for a live show where *he* played it would be amazing. I think he is in quite good terms with James and Lars now, if i remeber correctly.

Metallica 1987-1994 sounded unreal! Anyone who got to see them live back then is lucky. I really wish James to be able to sing like this again. Also no one can compare to the guitar tone and the drum sound during this period. Please bring back that kind of production, eq, mic placement etc.

I'm from Muskegon, so knowing they played here before I was even born makes me sad but OMFG METALLICA PLAYED IN MY HOME CITY
I was 4 years old, my dad took me to this show. We had seats way up top before they took all of the seats out and now the arena holds next to nothing. Loved the Walker Arena back in the day. Went there almost every weekend for Fury games. We used to get so many good concerts, Pantera, Metallica, Ozzy, now we can't even get a band to play at Heritage Landing.
I sure wish Jason never would have left the band.
I got offered a ticket to a Metallica show on this tour the day before the show, but I turned it down because I had a math test the next day. I was a fucking nerd.

If time travel became easily accessible, going to see Metallica in this period of their career would easily be the first thing I would do. Seen them 4 times since my first show in 2008, every time they kicked ass but nothing compares to seeing them perform like this, the Live Shit album/dvd is always a personal favourite and go to show

James and Kirk may have had a few too many drinks before this show, little sloppy. Lars and Jason are tight as you can be!
You can tell James got a little better as the show progressed but when he first started playing he was wasted

Badass Jason 🔥🔥🔥
Before watching the bass solo here I didn’t know Jason could slap this good. Such an underrated bassist. His only weakness is that he replaced a god in this band.
Cliff, despite his legend status, was probably the least technical bassist in Metallica. Well, maybe Ron, if you take him into account. Both Jason and Trujillo were more precise and technical players.
Jason always got dumped on for no good reason. And he was by far the best backup vocalist they ever had.
@@blppt Thank you! I am always confused by people who say that Jason was the least technical bassist when he was there for Metallica's most musically complex era.

Was born in 1990 and been a metallica lover since day 1! I would give almost anything to go back to experience a concert like this.
I am fortunate that I can see it now though.
Lars's drumming is wildly underrated. Especially on Justice tracks.
Justice Album was Lars's peak. After touring with that album, he was waisted, which is why the Black album is slower and basic drumming wise.
@@ZeeDog27No? He was never wasted. Lars basically held the same skills he had since Justice all the way up until the late 90s after the load albums. The band just changed direction musically, that’s why the drum became simpler and they played the faster classics less. Also Bob Rock.
This "drum solo" is really lame
Black album was the start of me getting into Metallica. Loved Load and Reload too. Loved 90's Metallica.
