      Dad was really excited when I got this head because both of us have wanted one for a long time and he wasnt about to miss it going on the first time and seeing it roll over. We went to lots of sales over the years trying to buy one but they always went for a crazy high price and we both werent going to spend that kind of money to buy one. When I told him I got this one bought for $1300 he said it took you long enough ! LOL He coulnd wait to go over and look at it on the trailer and he was really surprised how good the head is and really cant get over the price I got it for. He was excited to see the 770 too ! He really likes it now that I got it running right and I really wish he could get up on it and run it cause I know he would love it ! Bandit

      @@banditfarmer1900 that’s a neat deal you and your dad share. I wish like hell I could get back into farming cause honest to god it’s some of the best times Iv had in my life. Man I hope I never have to do that again as that was a job and a half to do and took 3 weeks to do! Man that was a job and ended up taking 2 of us a few times to get the belts on. I had to get Jacob to help me get a couple of belt guards back on it, I barely got them off and there was just no way 1 guy could get them back on. But I really ended up with a good combine from all the work and the year I did that I didnt have any brake downs and that was a first ! LOL I sure hope this year is the same way ! Bandit

    Nice to see a farmer that doesn't spend 500 k on a combine. From a former small farmer. Looks like a great machine from what you paid for it. Keep up the great videos, nothing wrong with being a small Farmer

      Thank You Alan, With what I gave for the combine and putting all new belts on it rice tires and steer tires I had and buying the corn head I have about $3500 in it total and to me this is still a cheap combine for what it is. If I take care of it it will last me 10 or 15 years or about the time I'm done farming and retire. I still just cant believe the number of people who say junk it and buy a new one, These are all the arm chair farmers who dont know squat about real farming and what it really takes to make money on the farm. You dont make money making big payments on equipment that sits most of the time you own it, But good used bought cheap will make you money every time ! Best thing about this is it's all paid for including the farm ! I might be a small farmer but I'll bet there is a lot of the big ones who wish they had it all paid for ! Bandit

    Taken September 17 2022 , After getting the JD 4400 combine running well its time to get the JD 443 corn head hooked up and rolling over. I honestly can say this was the easiest I ever hooked a head up to a combine and even dad was amazed ! I had bought new chains for the couplers and this will help in the future to make it easer to hook the heads up to the combine but for now it just makes it easer for now, But I got it hooked up and rolling over and it really needs the chains oiled up cause I really dont know how long it has set and by the looks of it its sat awhile so lots of oil its needing right now. A lot went on today getting this hooked up 1550 gas the long 1850 and the 770 came out so I could get the combine out and I did finish the last of the work on the Oliver 770 with checking the oil in the rear end and adjusting the brakes so its ready to go to work ! The JD 4400 is running great now and the corn head is in great shape now and ready to go to work next year, Unless I find some corn to shell this fall ? Why knows what will happen just have to wait and see. The combine is ready to go as is the corn head so now I have ground work to do and I'll get the try the 770 out on a disk ! I hope you enjoyed watching. Bandit

      Dad really wanted to see this head go on the combine for the first time, Its been kind of a dream of both of us to get a head like this and I'm really glad I bought it. Had to drive 4 hours to get it but for the price it was well worth it . I'm used to the Gleaner style of hook up and this was oh so easy I got it on the first try, Pull up to it inch in and raise it up and I had it ! Dad said thats the easiest we ever hooked up a head on anything. When he got to the house covered in dust he told mom he worked hard today, Mom just rolled her eye's at him ! LOL But dad will always be the supervisor on the farm ! Cousin Bandit

    Nice, I put 26 seasons through the same setup. I bought it second owner. It was a very reliable machine. Parts are getting scarce. Shoup in Illinois is a good supplier. Buy a parts machine if you can get one cheap, lots of changes along the way on those 4400s so it'll need to be close to the same year. I loved running mine. The only difference is mine was a 443 low tin oil bath head. Enjoy.
    Best regards from Indiana.

      I'm lucky that dads old 4400 is still sitting there and it makes for a great parts machine for me, Lucky for me there both first year machines. One is the 700th one built and mine is the 1200th one built and believe it or not there are differences between them, Just goes to show they were making changes even early on on these. One thing different is dads old one has a chain that drives the feeder beater behind the cylinder ware mine has a belt to drive it. Mine had a variable speed pulley for the head that had 2 locator pins in it and was worn and dads had 4 locator pins in it so I put it on mine when I was changing all the belts on it. Its funny how many little things were changed in these machine in the first year of production so I'm glad to have a parts machine sitting there to use as I need it. There good old machines but they are harder to get parts for them. Bandit

It had a hoses to drive a hydraulic reel on it and at the time were unhooked from the head, Well lets just say when I started it up and engaged the machine my uncle and an other guy got covered up with hydraulic oil when the pump blew up from being dead headed ! The grain head will have a bolt on each side of the feeder house. If I remember correctly, it's a 1/2" bolt, but it could be 5/8". The bolt is about an inch and a 1/4 long that you can thread into the head. I use a lock washer and a regular flat washer with that. However, on the corn head, the book shows 3 spots to use a carriage boats. The corn head carriage bolt might be the 1/2" bolt. I do remember that they are different sizes and go in different places. The carriage bolt goes from the front down underneath that channel on the bottom of the corn head towards the combine. There's a slot in the middle and one on each side. I never used the 1 in the middle and only bolted it on each side. The bolt sticks out into a hole on the feeder house and I always use the flat washer, lock washer, and nut. Hopefully that all makes sense. Yes, they are easy to take off and put back on. I have a 643 and when running down some of the roads, I will use a header cart and put the head on when I get to the field.

    • @banditfarmer1900
      @banditfarmer1900  2 роки тому

      I think the 4400 has like 5 or 6 sets of holes in the feeder house to bolt up the head to and I think there all 5/8" bolts cause thats what I've always used on the different heads I've used on it. This was a great chance to try the head out for the first time and I did it just to get the chains oiled up. I dont know how long it had been sitting in the barn before I got it but from what I saw in it it had been sitting several years easy by the amount of rusty oil I saw after it ran awhile and the chains were really stiff. But they got oiled up and the head got put up on a running gear and put in the dry back in the barn good and oily ! Nothing wrong with a little rust prevention ! LOL Bandit

    Raise snouts clean and lubricate and adjust gathering chain tension. Put JD corn head grease in snapping roller gear boxes if needed. Oil chains .

      I would really rather put this head on the old 95 because I know it will eat corn up ! But the 4400 will do it just as good I think cause I've never run a 4400 in corn before but I have seen plenty of them doing it over the years and they always did a good job shelling and cleaning it. Most all the corn heads I've used were AC corn heads so this is the first JD corn head for me and I got to get used to it and learn about them before I screw something up ! Bandit

    Ole pop got a good dusting when you first reved her up 😆, there 2 big bolts that secure the header to the feederhouse, there should be a hole in the bottom of the feederhouse plate on each side and the bolt will thread into the frame of the corn head you may have to clean out the threads some it take a 1 1/8 wrench if I remember correctly

      I have a set of rear wheel weights off a MF combine I can put on it if I need them but they wont go on the rims no way , I'll bolt them to the frame someplace instead. Former owner had put links between the frame to the axel on both side to take the wobble out of the axel. When I bought it there was no real give or flex in the steering axel it was pretty rigid so I loosened the links up and now its a lot better. This is the first 40 series JD corn head I've ever owned so I got a bit of learning to do on it so I know how to maintain it to keep it in good shape for years to come. Bandit

    Well, looks like you got a good head there. I see that it is a "hi tin" model like my 444. My cousin also has a 444 head, but it has low tin. That 443 really seemed to run well, and I think you definitely need to find a neighbor that needs a little help harvesting and try that beast out.

    • @banditfarmer1900

      I never really worried about the high tin or low tin heads cause I really never grew enough corn to see the difference in them for me in my conditions. Most of the time its standing good but years ago we had several years ware the corn went down and boy was it a mess to shell, One time I shelled corn with the grain head because it was down so bad ! If it lays down one way you got a chance with the corn head but when it goes down in every direction a corn head aint got a chance , Thank God for a 10 foot grain head ! I wouldnt want to do many acres like this but it did work pretty good I must say. I used my old rigid 13 foot head but it sure looked funny doing this ! LOL I just watched oliver66farmboys video ware he's talking about his grain head not working right and I know whats wrong with it but he dont want to hear what it is but its an easy fix from what he has said about it. Thats one thing I can say is nice about having 2 grain heads, If the new fancy one goes down the old rigid head will come out and work like a charm but you just got to watch it a lot closer ! I'm getting rain right now and its the first rain we've gotten in the last 29 days and for that we broke a record for the longest stretch without rain ! 5th wettest May on record 4th driest August on record and October as of this morning we have a total of 100th of an inch of rain for the month , We've got more tonight than we've had all month and there is more to come from what they say. I checked my beans today and there are some that are 10% or less and others you can cut with your finger nail , So there all over the place moisture wise, Maybe this rain will help in the dry down and make them more even in moisture.
