JVC stores its HD videos in .MTS format, as well......I was about to sell my camera, but you saved the day! Handbrake worked like a charm, just like your demo. Thank you!
Even 5 years in the future this video has helped me out a lot. I've been googling for maybe 3 or 4 hours now, I lost count, I can't feel my brain. Every converter I came across was not free and would demand payment or put watermarks across my video. This software is brilliant.
Wow, thanks so much. You saved my project too. I wasted a ton of time and money with Wondershare. What a waste. Your video made it so simple and straightforward. Thanks so much.
Oh my goodness, this is so helpful! I have a ton of video data for my dissertation that I need to import into a software program for analysis. I'm not tech savvy at all, and this just made my day! Thank you for posting this!
Hi, if you like the command line than instead of using avidemux use tools like ffmpeg or libav. With libav comes the command avconv. Just type into a terminal: avconv -i MY_MTS_FILE.MTS -c:a copy -c:v copy MY_MP4_FILE.mp4 Both ffmpeg and libav are available for Linux as well as Windows. No reencoding necessary therefore the "copy" switch in the command...
Hi, thx for the nice intro to the tool. But if you only want to convert an MTS->MP4 there is no recoding necessary as MTS already contains a MP4 vid stream. You need to recode the file if you want to remove interlacing, but as there are many deinterlacers out there one could prefer to just extract the MP4 stream. (Deinterlacing can be done at runtime e.g. with VLC or Totem so no need for recoding here...) E.g. try Avidemux 2.6.1, open MTS file, choose Output Format "MP4v2 Muxer", save. done.
My picture size output keeps being reduced. Can you let me know what your settings are on the 'Picture Settings > Size' screen are? Example: "Picture Size: Source: 1440 x 1080, Output: 1440 x 688, Modulus: 16"
the software worked fine, it's a little bit annoying if you need to convert a bunch of files at once but it works great considering it's free, i'll definitely use it more in the future
Thank you so much! Your video is very helpful. But I came across a problem after following your conversion; the mp4 video generated had multiple freezes, where the image would freeze for a few seconds but the audio is unaffected. Would you have a solution to come around this? I would really appreciate your help!
i am not very good at this stuff but your video is really helpful. the only problem i'm having is getting the file on to handbrake - it says 'no valid title found' when i try and add the MTS file. any ideas would be great ;O)
It is good but not so convenient for batch conversion. I used Aunsoft MTS/M2Ts Converter for Mac now. It can be used for batch conversion of MTS to mp4. Saves me lots of time.
When I loaded Handbrake, another program tried to piggy-back as an AV tool bar. Not acceptable! If I want other SW, I will be the one to pick it, not the party trying to sell "bundle-ware".
Thank you so much! It kind of piss me off that a free software like handbrake can do such a good job at it and a software like premiere pro or anything in adobe suite that cost thousands of dollar can't even playback MTS file properly. I even chatted with someone in customer support and they were not able to fix it. They told me they will call me later but never did. Adobe is horrible at customer service.

You are able to deselect the tool bar offer :) Handbrake is one of the absolute best applications for converting stuff to MP4 / MKV files :)
So this will work with any camera not comparable with Mac?
Thank you so much! Your video is very helpful. Thanks for your video!
Is there anyway to keep date and time form the original clip?
Did you receive an answer?
How can I add the date and time and pick it up from the attribute of the video?
Worked like a charm. Thank you so much.
