Liked Bad News, despite the fact he was a heel for most of the time I got to watch him. Never knew that he wrestled for Stampede or a Canadian promotion in general. Makes sense though, seeing as New York is closer to Canada. Plus the Canadian promotions were always good about giving everyone a chance at a title run, politics and other foolishness never seemed like part of Canadian promotions business model.

Up here in Canada we had seen him in Calgary for many many years. He had a lot of great matches against the Harts… right up to Owen… as well as dynamite, and Davy… in the last great stampede era he was in and out of the territory along with such Greats as Pillman, thunder lager, Owen, Benoit, hiro hase, and many others!! Great times. Bad news Allen was usually a heel, but also had a nice face run when he turned on the bad guy faction… the fans were happy bc even as a heel, everyone respected Allen as a legit tough guy who didn’t need to cheat like the other bad guys.

Hi, Jake. My name is David Thomas. I owned a promotion here in Calgary with Allen, Hybrid Wrestling Coalition or HWC from 2002 to just before his death in 2006. I can tell you, for shoot, that News loved the shit out of you. he said you were light as a feather and a joy to work with. He loved every minute of it. As for the belt, Vince would have given it to Allen. and Hogan was good with it and supported it. The problem was that Vince wanted Allen to work face and be , as News put it, a f*****g Uncle Tom.

Knowing what I know now about the situation it would be hard for me to see Bad News as the World Champ, yes Vince might have talked about it but he never made guarantees to anyone, Bad News was big and legit tough but he was 45 when he entered the WWF, his age and knees alone would have kept him from carrying the company flag

BNB was the type of wrestler that worked better as the challenger. If he became WWF champ he would have failed to connect to the fans and the reign would have been short, or he would have connected with the fans and would have to water down his heel act which would have killed off any appeal he had. And that wouldnt have happened because during that era Vince wasnt going to push a tweener as champion, it took nearly another ten years for that to happen with Austin and that decision was born from desperation. When BNB was in the WWF business was great so why change fron everything that works? Maybe Vince did tell BNB he'd make him champion with a long run but Vince was telling a lot of guys a lot of things that never came to pass
