in league, there's only faker. players of recent years have come close to his mechanical skill, mainly chovy and showmaker. however, no one has the same amount of success, domestic and international as he has. no one has the same consistency and longevity as he has. no one has the same amount of impact he had on the game. simply put, he is the goat of lol and there is no argument that would dispute that

"Is he that good?" Yes, he is HIM. To say that nobody is comparable to him would be an understatement. The fact that a lot of people who don't play league or follow the pro scene knows Faker is already a testament to his credibility as the GOAT of LoL.

This is all you need to know about Faker:
He has a 50% WORLDS WINRATE, arguably the highest-stakes major esports competition in the world (single elim btw). As in, he attended Worlds 8 times and won 4 of them, losing 2 Semis, and 2 Finals. NA as a region has only ever reached semis, and EU as a region lost both finals. He has never placed below 3rd-4th EVER. Over 10 years. He has always made it out of groups as 1st seed.
Unbelievable stat. In fact, it is pretty much unanimously agreed upon that when it comes to the GOAT conversation, EVERYONE is vying for 2nd place. The gap between Faker and whoever else is the 2nd best is so large that nobody even bothers to challenge it.
Additionally, he is the only person to have won Worlds *4* times. The only other active player with the closest amount of Worlds wins is BeryL, with *2*. The only other ex-players with 2+ Worlds trophies were Faker's teammates. They're retired.
Faker won his first Worlds as the best midlaner in the world. 10 years later, he won his fourth as the best midlaner in the world.
Also, the fact that Faker was literally a prodigy coming in on the scene. Kkoma, their coach, back then did a qualifier for 100+ members for the team except for Faker, because that's just how good he was already, they had to build a team for HIM. When Caedrel said he could carry his whole team alone and was an anomaly, he wasn't kidding around. The man is a generational talent, and I doubt we'll ever see another Faker in our lifetime.
To add to this, he has to date, afair, not lost a single series to an LPL team at worlds.

He might have 4X worlds (the most in history) but people don’t realize that when Korea was BY FAR the number 1 region (before China caught up to them) winning LCK in 2013-2017 was harder than winning Worlds. Faker has 10 of them.
It's when China and every other region started buying Korean players from veterans to academy players.. it's still amazing LCK is still relevant and wins most of the time and the times they don't it's LPL with Korean carries.

@@korallyne2114 not necessarily the whole year but during the worlds run, League's meta is unfavorable for SKT at the time. Skt vs Rng is just a guaranteed lose for SKT for sure and they were not be able to attend that World's Finals if it weren't for Faker's Galio absolutely carry performance.

Short answer: Yes he is, you have to be incredibly good to have every single league player agreeing that he is the undisputed GOAT of the game.
Long answer: Yes he is, at his peak he was truly 5 to 6 years ahead and pretty much revolutionized mid lane. He has a wide champ pool, with incredible mechanics and championship winning shot calling. That together with 10+ years of consistentoy being one of the best mid players makes him a player that's in a different category.

Simply put, whilst people do doubt his current ability, nobody, and i mean nobody, doubts his legacy. Heis by far and away the greatest player in league of legends and it's not even close. You can point to the likes od messi and ronaldo but in terms of his legacy compared to his peers, he is above them. There's not a single player that comes close to being called the goat in the face of faker. Every player is fighting for a distant second in the all time greats and every player just accepts that because they know that nobody will catch faker. Another player could come along and wjn more titles but honestly, faker's legacy is untouchable for at least the next 10 years.
It's not just about his legacy, at his peak the dude could dodge a point blank cassio ult, beat one of the best midlaner in the world with the same champion and single handedly drag corpses to a world title, get benched to Eazyhoon 'cuz he wasn't good enough on Azir to grind so much that he is now one of the best Azir player.
If you were to have a valorant comparison, you'd have to fuse players to get an equivalent to Faker, he is THAT good.
Imagine Forsaken's agent pool, the raw mechanical skill of aspas or prime yay, and the brain of Boaster/FNS/Saadhak, all combined into a single person, and you have the Valorant equivalent of what Faker is.

Faker is the only reason i ever started watching esports unfortunately after the bounty system was put into league of legends it made the game unfun to play and it hurt the ability for a player like faker to 1v5 and make risky plays now i play valorant and watch valorant esports but faker will always be the goat of league of legends to me

There is no comparable player in other games to Faker (at least not in any of the games I've followed over the many many years now).
Faker's name is so recognizable people who don't even play League know of Faker. You don't get that level of notoriety without having done truly remarkable and damn near impossible achievements to beat.

I've watched Fakers' entire career. Along the road, he has had rivals, competitors, and even kyptonites.
Pawn, a man who seemed to have fakers number but could never perform outside that match up.
TheShy, WeiXiao, Smeb, Dandy, Showmaker, players who burned beight but burned low, and fell out of competition very quickly.
Uzi, Rookie, Deft, players who stayed consistently elite but due to poor career management and roster choices never gave themselves the opportunity to win like Faker won.
Chovy, Knight, 369, Bin, players who are performing at that bonjwa level but have still much to prove in terms of longevity and meta proofing.
Faker over his career has been a 10 in every possible stat. Where one player has failed, he has succeeded. Where other sports have players who can be broadly compared holistically, there is no comparison to faker as an entire player. Where one player matches his mechanics, they fail in his clutchness, or versitility, or longevity, or adaptability, or the leadership qualities which are hard to measure but are obvious to see.
Faker has never been a 10 in ever stat in 1 point in his career. Early in his career he wasn't a leader. Later he wasn't the most mechanically skilled. He was always able to balance one flaw with a world class strength (usually multiple).
So, unlike messi and ronaldo, federer and nadal, MJ and Lebron, Lewis, Senna and Schumacher. There is no angle right now for anyone else to be the GOAT. No valid argument. You can have the thought experiment but it would be insanity, as the conclusion is always the same.
Faker is the tallest mountain and the widest river in LoL. His comparisons have eclipsed league of legends. Players like Flash, Infiltration, and S1mple are players who can be compared to Faker properly. Undisputed (or close to) GOATs of other popular games.
Rookie came the closet in LoL, but due to poor career management, he went left down a path of despair where fake went right to glory. The only "What if?" In LoL with respect to Faker is Apdo, the dark prodigy who got himself banned before being able to properly start his LCK career.
Someone in the future will challenge fakers title if LoL lasts long enough, but for now there really is only 1 Faker. 🤫

I don't understand the gameplay of LoL. Is he the most dominant pro in a video game compared to other dominant pros in other video games? Like is he leagues above Zen from Rocket League or Shaiiko from R6 in terms of dominance/performance?
To put it simply think of it like this, imagine the guinness world records but for LoL and in that book from the very first page and to the last, all that records belong to Faker and no one is ever close to it even the 2nd place is nowhere near to where he is. Which is why Faker is the undisputed goat of LoL.
