Maybe a crazy theory, but is it possible the Grenadier is at least partially responsible for the fall off in classic NAS Defender values? You get that aesthetic, with modern reliability, for what was the same price at the previous NAS market values.
re: Giulia QV, some points about what the guys said: (1) the production HAS ended last year for North America at least so after June 2024 no one can order one; (2) As far as the numbers, the Giulia QV is much rarer than the C4 Corvette Doug analogized to. GM produced 358,180 C4 Corvettes over the 12-year model run. Meanwhile, there were ever only 3000 Giulia QVs in North America (and not a ton more globally) so the C4 Corvette guys outnumber Giulia QV Alfisti by a lot. (3) Filippo said QV was not "era-defining" but it is unclear what this means. What about being the fastest 4-door sedan at Nurburgring? In fact, even today, 9 years since that record was set (and subsequently beaten by others), the Giulia QV is still the 8th fastest 4-door and holds the 10th fastest laptime. Is being a "baby Ferrari" and a better handling than the M3 not helpful in defining the segment? Look at the Throttle House's review for context on what Giulia QV is capable of. Anyway, love the channel and please review the car again, you won't be disappointed.
Wait, what about those of us who genuinely enjoy your videos? @PhilipBeresford obviously it depends on which cars you like. I think the reputation for the 80s comes from the fact that 1990s made such a huge leap forward, especially in terms of appearance, and the 1980s generations of the same cars that shined in 1990s pale in comparison.

@@TheUPSviking Anything and everything can seem really bad to some people. If we live by that, we won't live, because the online "righteousness" and "social justice" police won't let us breathe. He didn't say anything that isn't true, and that's exactly the reality. Rich people stick together, and those who don't stick together don't enjoy their wealth in public and use their "poor costume" to stay comfortable in their social circle. Shaming people for being successful or for their life story just because it wasn't something horrible and deplorable, just a regular guy who ended up being successful, is the basic ammunition of internet losers who won't stand up and fight for their own lives, because it's easier to point the finger at everyone else for every stupid thing and blame society and luck instead of taking responsibility. I think the magic number for how many copies need to be made for it to be a real production car is 200, the number historically required for rally Group B homologation for example. Cars like the Porsche 959, Renault 5 Turbo, Audi Sport Quattro and Escort RS200 all had to hit that number. There are cars like the Vector where the intention was clearly to make more than they did make, so maybe there can be exceptions.
As the owner of a limited production “50 Years of the 550 Spyder Edition Boxster S”, of which Porsche built 1953, to commemorate the first year of 550 Spyder production, I find this topic interesting. I must admit, I enjoy seeing the production number plate, I own #310, on my Boxster’s “batwing” in front of the manual shifter.
I enjoy all of your new, used, exotic, unusual car reviews especially on cars I'v never heard of or will ever purchase as most of the cars you review I can't afford Also I was curious on where you get all fo the state license plates.
There are so many great iconic 80s cars. Ferrari Testarossa, F40, Corvette C4, Delorean DMC12 (okay crap but iconic), BMW E30 M3, Audi Quattro, Porsche 959, Lexus LS 400......
Regarding 80's cars that started in the 80's and ended in the 80's? BMW 5 series (e28) and the 6 series (e24) both had M versions in the 80's, debuted in the 80's (for the US market with fuel injection) and were good generally (in my opinion!)
Wagons aren’t just as practical as a crossover, they’re usually more practical. Lower load floor, usually a longer trunk than an suv. The only thing to give them a run for that are trucks
Doug’s the type of guy to admit he came from a privileged background, was at the right place at the right time, but nevertheless worked hard to get where he is… and people still get mad
I wasn’t aware of the rich parents video but i saw a reupload of it on YT. I totally get not wanting to deal with drama for someone in your shoes. You are not some teenage UA-camr chasing clout and I immensely respect you for that. But as a person with influence AND wisdom, that video had many amazing messages for todays generation with arguably the most important one being personal accountability and I think RE uploading it would be a service to the internet in 2025
I think they used electric trucks hoping for secondary damage when the batteries caught fire and went into thermal runaway. Instead it showed how resilient these battery packs can be.
I do agree that the 2000s are peak in the sense of analog enthusiasts cars, but the 2010s especially 2010-2015 has the best looking cars in my opinion. Examples: 458, p1, laferrari, 918, 675 Lt, f12 etc.
Shout out to us 1% who watch every Doug video and the fan made compilations but just don’t care about the Drama bc we’ve all seen how weird and annoying the comment section gets.
1:05:09 The specific reason they've been going for $25k is because once you hit 100k miles or 8 years, whichever comes first, the warranty no longer applies. So these previous owners are offloading the battery replacement to whoever buys them. Given that 92% of an EV's battery can be recycled, this could perhaps lower costs over time - but the above is simply the explanation for right now.
Imo the japanese luxury brand tier is Lexus, Acura, and whats the other one? Acura is special in my opinion thanks to higher performance engines, SH-AWD, great designs, and Honda quality with nicer materials. Im not sure what else you could want other than rwd.
Doug slightly misunderstood Yoshi's question. The guy didn't ask to generally describe the epoch, but to name a specific type of vehicle that the decade is famous for. I believe the 2000s was the era of offroad crossovers like the original Cayenne/Touareg, Mercedes-Benz W164/X164, Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2, Land Rover Discovery 3, etc. The 2010s are famous for early EVs like Leaf, i-MiEV, early Model S and Model 3. The 2020s are famous for big ol honking offroaders with 35-37 inch tires like Bronco, F150 Raptor 37, Wrangler Rubicon Extreme Recon, the new Scout, GMC Hummer, etc.
10:33 Totally have been thinking this for years, even if Acura only sells them to limo companies and Uber Lux drivers. I definitely want to ride in one to the airport. By the way, I saw a Lexus minivan in Poland last summer, picking up well dressed passengers at the airport.

Bugatti's speed record was only set in one direction. They can't run Ehra-Lessien in two directions due to the orientation of the road surface.
Happy New Year, C&B! I can't wait to see all the new ideas yall have this year. Maybe Filippo will finally buy a new car 😅
The Mazda Mx-3's crown for the smallest V-6 being taken by (presumably) the AMG One is quite funny to me
Regarding 80's cars that started in the 80's and ended in the 80's? BMW 5 series (e28) and the 6 series (e24) both had M versions in the 80's, debuted in the 80's (for the US market with fuel injection) and were good generally (in my opinion!)
DOUG NEEDS TO REVIEW THE LAMBORGHINI BOAT
🙄 Lamborghini tractor 🚜 That has more quirks and features 👍
When Filippo starts to talk about which car to buy....... Kennan shaking his head at the camera as if sympathizing with us viewers
Politicians need to see this podcast! Spot on
80s homologation cars, Delta Integrale, R-32 GT-R, Audi Quattro, 288 GTO, 959, Lotus Espirit, GNX, Sierra RS Cosworth, 1st Gen M3 and M5
Wagons aren’t just as practical as a crossover, they’re usually more practical. Lower load floor, usually a longer trunk than an suv. The only thing to give them a run for that are trucks
Noodle! Where's Noodle? We want Noodle! Have him hang out while you guys chat!
I’m not an Acura fan but the RDX is an awesome compact crossover.
15:30 to be fair...you can now see seriously fast cars that are produced in way bigger numbers
Good point, if it was just the weight they could've rented something heavier from U-Haul
good point
I think this guy an inside man that’s 100% it. Remember, 99% of criminals are really stupid, that’s why they criminals.
If I may propose the W201 190E, introduced in the 80s, and the 2.3-16 by extension. Totally an 80s car, and some might say quite good!
Should call this show The Dough Boys. New Year’s resolution time guys - hit the gym!
Sir, please, EAD. 👍
Yesssir
They Could hear him "floor it" with the Lightning, road noise and chaos of the 3 ton, 4.1 Second 0-60 time EV pickup plowing down the curb
Backing up the performance SUV timing in 2000s, ML 55 began in 2000 as well.
I’m hammondyouidiot! Thanks for answering my question!!❤
I didn't watch Doug too often before THIS CAR POD began, but I've watched basically all of his videos since then!
20:18 Someone brought an Ionic N to my local autocross. Pretty rad.
Ford Fusion was the Mazda 6 and almost all speed6 parts fit the Fusion including the manual transmission.. Would love to build one
The 2024 Genesis GV60 also has a manual mode. What does Doug think of the mode in this car?
Big fan of your work, always look forward to your uploads!
Kennan is the type of guy to kiss his M5 goodnight before going to bed
and name it Chase
Like that guy from my strange addiction@@fortheloveofnoise
Question: What is the minimum production number should be considered as a attainable production car?
I called it would be Toyota as soon as the Z4 was mentioned. The Acura minivan is just the Odysey Elite, they just misspelled Acura as Elite.
51:32 2020s is the decade of the 4 cylinders hybrids replacing high displacement engines
Hey doug, do you have that countach simulator for real? You guys should all run some laps on a short track in like a mx5 cup or something
Kennan got me looking into cayenne turbos too
10:33 Totally have been thinking this for years, even if Acura only sells them to limo companies and Uber Lux drivers. I definitely want to ride in one to the airport.
By the way, I saw a Lexus minivan in Poland last summer, picking up well dressed passengers at the airport.
9:00 btw, in Canada the Mx-3 was called Protégé
You may be thinking of the 323. Like I said, in Canada the MX-3 was called the MX-3 Precidia:
“The MX-3 was also marketed as the Mazda MX-3 Precidia in Canada”
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_MX-3
It was the Precidia for sure. The Protege turned in to the mazda 3
I enjoy watching all of your videos. Is there any way to get Filippo to slow down when he talks so that everyone can understand what he’s saying?
19:50 about to go from a 987 cayman to a 981 boxster s, and completely agree 😂
How much did the Grenadier impact Defender market?!?!?!?!
Smartass 😂
Real
1%
Judging by all the Grenadiers (still) sitting at the dealership in my city.
Zero impact.
I did see 1 the other day. I thought it was a G Wagon at first though 😂
Doug the type of guy to comment "FIRST!!!" on an ad for the new Camry
The 80's produced the s13 240sx. Look I know its no ferarri, but it is one of the most influential cars of the last 40 years.
As always a well cultivated episode.
Petition for Doug to do more house reviews!
Curious what you guys think about ineos and if it's effecting defender prices
Great show as usual. 😱
I always look forward to your videos
Great episode! HNY!
I'm happy to be part of the 3% that watch all of your videos Doug
I just don't argue anywhere lol, I just watch and enjoy
