Using my phone for field videos proved to be problematic for several reasons. Firstly, the video quality was always slightly choppy, regardless of my efforts. Additionally, I had to set my phone to Do Not Disturb or Airplane mode to avoid interruptions from notifications while filming. There are numerous reasons to avoid using a phone for this purpose. I've just ordered a V10, and the deciding factor was the availability of a cage and accessories from SmallRig. With these enhancements, the V10 transforms into a practical field camera with a compact size, allowing for hassle-free filming in various locations.
I actually liked the audio in the car and outside with the inbuilt audio, it has a nice richness all things considered. Thanks for this thoughtful review!
I'd love to see someone try a setup with 3 of these; place them around a podcast studio or live performance for instance. Simple multi-cam setup to capture many angles at once for a cheap price overall.
I realise that this is literally over a year old now but there are a couple of things that I would like to mention. I think something needs to be considered here, the target audience. This isn't here to replace peoples phones. Phones tend to over saturate, which I'm not a complete fan of. That being said, the idea of having something that isn't draining my phone battery is a nice thing in my eyes. As other people have pointed out, you can use the V10 as a webcam on your computer, easily. I use it all the time on things like Teams, OBS and Zoom with no issues. There are a few people that have been talking about the limitations with the digital image stabilisation. Realistically, if you want to go manual and have stabilisation, then do it post. That's essentially what Canon is doing with the video but on the fly. Use your video editing software to stabilise and you're golden. I guess everything has its draw backs at times. The colour grade and shifting through ND filters is going to take mini bit because they aren't just changing the ISO, shutter speed or aperture. Guaranteed, every phone is doing a collection of the three to get you results. I like the idea of this and would love to see what they bring up in the next release of this camera, if there is one. Overall though, good job Daniel. :)
Convenience is it's best selling point. You can take it out without drawing attention to yourself, doesn't drain phone battery, you can concentrate on just filming. Memory cards can be taken out and changed. It's not about the quality, it's about conveniece

the external mics are pretty good , just a little on the loud side but other than that, they sound okay. The wireless sounds okay as well, just not so loud, I think it's just a matter of preference.
I looked at the specs on this one and thought they were questionable. B&H recommended this one to me but honestly I think they were just throwing out a recommendation,suspecting I would not buy it. I'm sticking with my phone as my phone was $50 and is paid for.

GoPro 11 is great. Plenty of accessories you can use for it. Great stabilization too. Only thing is it doesn't do very well in low light. That is an issue with all action cameras.

And I say it again: this camera is amazing. fair for what it offers. It is not an action camera. If that's what you want, you should look for other options!
If you buy something like a Pixel 7A which has a little higher price but decent camera quality you will get a better camera to do your vlogging jobs and you can buy a lot of good accesories but this camera from canon is cheap but that comes at a cost of a very bad quality especially in terms of exposure adjustment
People who don't like to learn cameras, they use their phones. Other who like to take an extra step and learn about cameras, will use a system camera. Unlike the Ronin 4D and GoPro, this Powershot V10 doesn't really have a market in my opinion.
Totally agree. I think they were trying to make an affordable vlogging camera like a Sony ZV-1 but cheaper, but didn't understand that that doesn't make any sense.

This is one of the worst cameras by Canon. Ever! I bought it because of all the fake praises from paid influencers. There is no optical stabilization. If you turn on the digital one, your video will be severely cropped which defeats the purpose of a wide angle lens. Even then, the stabilization is never as good as the one with my iPhone. The auto exposure is extremely poor in still photos and video. Simply atrocious. The camera will take several seconds to adapt to a change in lighting. The auto focusing is equally bad. This is one cheap useless camera Canon should not have released to scam their customers. It's clearly a very desperate attempt to rush into the competitive action/vlog camera scene. But sorry Canon, you're too late. The V10 felt like it was a camera released 10 years too late!

Actually you can plug it into your computer and use it as a webcam. In fact, no drivers needed as it complies with uvc webcam standards.

Im considering using it as an "around town" camera instead of my r10 but the battery life may be an issue for me.
Not having swappable batteries is a bummer on a simple camera like this

Nice review. I doubt any serious vloggers will want this as a primary camera, but perhaps it could fill a need as a backup.

GoPro 11 is great. Plenty of accessories you can use for it. Great stabilization too. Only thing is it doesn't do very well in low light. That is an issue with all action cameras.
