Snorkeling With Whales in Raja Ampat [Rare Sighting of Pilot Whales] | Papua Diving Resorts

Our guests at Papua Diving Resorts got a chance to swim with whales in Raja Ampat!
On the 28th of April 2022, we had just had the most amazing afternoon dive on Blue Magic. On our journey back to the resort with clear and flat water glistening with the pinks and the oranges of sunset, we noticed something remarkable on the horizon. Splashes and large tails standing vertical and motionless in the water. As we slowly approached, we realised it was a super pod of Pilot Whales. They were so calm and relaxed and were at total ease with us being there. With the boat engines off and drifting with the currents, we gently entered the water and snorkeled with them. As they swam under and around us we watched them go by and we were even able to hear them communicating to each other. After almost an hour with them we all headed back to the resort realising we had witnessed something truly remarkable. This whale sighting is one of the many reasons Raja Ampat is considered the greatest dive location in the world.
