  • Why Get a Motorcycle!
In the 1970s a working man would put on his working clothes, and whether it was an office suit or rough neck gear, he would then don lightweight weatherproof overalls, carry his possessions, his lunch and even his working shoes in a backpack; pull on his Doc Martin boots, fix his helmet and he was good to go. Of course if it was a dry day, he would put the weatherproof overalls in his backpack. It was dangerous riding a motorbike, but then, like the bikers of today, he had balls.
I hardly use my car these days, I put on my protective gear and head out in all weathers. I love lane splitting on the dual carriageways and passing those folks sitting in their cars as the slow moving traffic queue edges forward. Jumping the queues in the city is a breeze, one minute you are 300 yards back and next, you are up there near the front at the traffic lights.
I remember the UK economic recession and the fuel crisis back in the 1970s when you had to queue for petrol and often when you reached the front, there was no petrol left. My car was left in the garage and I purchased an ancient 125cc Yamaha to travel up and down to my work. In those days if you had a driving licence for a car, you could slap L plates on a 125cc motorcycle and you were good to go. I wore a helmet and my work clothes with Doc Martin boots. After the fuel crisis was over, I sold the bike and went back to using my car. When I look back, it was a mistake and it took 40 years for me to get another one and start riding motorcycles again.
Today, inflation is rising again and the UK Government is positioned between a rock and a hard place. It has no money and it will be forced to let inflation rise out of control whereby there will be strikes and unemployment or they can increase interest rates, just like the 1970s and early 80s to reduce inflation but strikes and unemployment will still happen. The UK roads are becoming more and more jammed packed with long queues in the city, on the dual carriageways at traffic lights and especially back from traffic lights positioned at roundabouts. To add grist to the mill, new car prices are crazy high, especially the electric cars and people who cannot afford a new car are finding that second-hand cars prices are rocketing.
So, if you like a bit of danger, enjoy the adrenalin rush, riding out in all weathers, and you have enormous balls, get yourself a motorbike and wave at those poor sods stuck in traffic queues as you pass them by. Sure, you might get killed but that's what makes it exciting.
