honestly, even the first game is worth a little more than 10$ (not talking about copy-paste the same idea over and over, but as is , it's worth a little more, maybe like 15-20$) for the second game, u can notice the nice art style, its simple but u can tell it's made by an expert artist that gave u what u paid for, even more, and u can notice the colors has been chosen wisely, also u can tell he could make the gameplay smoother but he didn't, for that price, it's worth at least $45 lastly, for the last game, he is a good creative programmer, but not an artist, the game mechanism is more complicated compared to the last 2 games,he is not an expert artist, even so, he is smart bcz he knows how to make a good simple design with no effort or advanced art skills
The second game is maybe too good for 10$ and one week of work. Everything is way too polished, I mean he implemented : A really great procedural generation for the map generator Animation on basically everything which needs a lot of time to polish Effing parallax scrolling for the background A fully fledged UI system that seems to be working I really doubt that the game was made in one week by one person from scratch, either he started with an already existing project and tweaking some things or he is a god of game jams.
@@neutral1707 I'd say it depends on how much you copied and pasted from previous projects, if you made something similar before, it could probably be made fast, from scratch tho, probably takes a while, even for skilled programmers

You low balled them so hard, it hurts when artist don’t value their own work, even the title screen of one game is worth more than what you paid them all in total.
As I'm working at an indie game studio, I can tell you that every job under 25 USD/hour is a ripoff. For 10 USD, I wouldn't even start working on a prototype.
tbh fiverr is really for building porfolios as you learn how to make games, whilst getting a little extra cash on the side. I can't imagine they're really trying to make an actual living working for $10 a game.
Yeah, I wish more people would sell their art for what it's actually worth. It would even out the market a little bit to for others who do sell their art for what it's worth, but not getting any sales because those who are just as good as them or better are selling their work for basically nothing.
The guy who created second must be really desperate. That game looked so good. Also, I actually think the third game developer created the game "literally" described in your brief: An Endless run *platform* game..
Pretty sure he's just trying to get 5 stars and build up a reputation. As he gets more 5 stars, people will be willing to pay more so this is probably just to set the foundation.

The idea of making this video came from the person who uploaded the video, He got paid for the views his idea brought. The game devs got paid for their work, now, I'm not saying it is fair this guy made more money than the people who worked to create the videogames, but that's where you should consider, Did I study 6 years in game development to get paid 10 dollars for my work ? No reward?? They got paid for the amount they asked for. If the devs wanted more money they should have charged him more, it’s not his fault. The only thing I agree with is the credits. I agree. I would have loved to have seen another game at a much higher price point and the people who made these nifty games for pocket change deserve some credit.
these games would probably be free on any platform anyway, unless they put more polish into the games they are just unfinished prototypes. $10 is generous for a game that should be free. you also assume that these people are full-time game devs that have no other source of income. however, I do agree with your point that it is dirty to show in the thumbnail large sums of money while only paying small amounts. He should at least link these peoples pages so that they can thrive in the game dev community.

That's the worst part about it, he didnt even bother to credit them. It would have take like 5 mins if that to add their fiver account name over the gameplay and analysis of their game... At least then he would ad least be giving them some kind of "exposure." He better have given them a five star review though to help boost them on the website.
I know he's not obliged to do it, but I was hoping he would tip them after mentioning his raving reviews... Even other "I paid people on Fiverr for X" videos that paid a cheap base price for entertainment remember to tip them, especially for the ones underselling themselves.

@@ashrafibrahim4934 the technology would depend on what the creator offers and what BadGameDev specified in his request. If no technology was mentioned, it wouldn't be strange for a creator in this price range to choose whatever they like. A creator in a more realistic price range should ask for more information. Where I'm from, a software developer charges 50 - 150 euro per hour, depending on education, function and experience. If, for the sake of this argument, we take 50% of the lowest rate, we'd have an hourly rate of 25 euro. Which means that the total development time (including the art etc.) has to be 24 minutes (= 60 ÷ (25 ÷ 10)) to be profitable for a developer where I am from that charges 10 euro. This is also not taking into account that the developer also has to interpret the request and chat with the client. In my opinion and based on where I'm from, the developers did an amazing job, even if most of the code would be available on github or UA-cam videos. It fulfilled the needs of the client for a low price. *edit: Added the calculation for the 24 minutes.

I'm a developer myself. I see one of two possible scenarios that happened here. 1. Developers had a highly similar project on hand which they previously abandoned and it only required a minimal amount of effort to meet the brief. Perhaps the developer was working on a side scrolling platformer and only had to make it move automatically or something small like that. The small amount of money gained is therefore for the little amount of effort needed to adjust it, and the existing project, which might have taken substantial effort, would not have earned the developer anything at all otherwise. 2. The prices quoted are hourly rates, not for the project as a whole. Even so it's pretty low, but I can imagine some developers working for those rates. Nobody in their right mind would build any of these games from scratch for $25.
They wouldn't build them from scratch, they would use an engine, such as the one advertised. They were all made in less than a week. People do game jams all of the time for free and create cool games in a short time for fun and the experience.
@@DanielDroegeShow I assumed using an engine, most likely GameMaker as mentioned. Building it with pure OpenGL/DirectX/Vulkan/whatever and not using any engine or frameworks would be a much taller order. There are certain responsibilities that come with accepting payment.

There are two alternatives that would likely also work - 1) do extremely small jobs for many people, for reasonable prices, or 2) charge less but still substantially more than this. $1000 is still pretty cheap, $500 even cheaper, dropping to $25 is a bit extreme in my opinion. But you’ve made your point because the fact that it seems okay to you in itself means some people are willing to accept it.
Game 1 seemed like a game that only cost 10$ to make. Game 2 looked actually well designed and like you said, polished, worth way more than 10$. I got really interested in the style of Game 3, and started to imagine different enemies, weapons, and a recharging ammo counter that could all make it get progressively more complex, as opposed to the simple "get faster".
A good/interesting video that would work just fine without the lie. That's not even clickbait, you straight up bullsheetted in the thumbnail. This is the first, and last time, I watch you. I did enjoy the video tho. A shame it ended like that.
The 2nd one seems the funnest and most complete. For $10 that was a great deal. The 3rd one I think did something unique, and given your request to 'please be creative', a isometric(?) semi-3D endless runner game seems to fit the bill. I think it was a little sterile in its current iteration, but it had something a bit unique compared to what is typical for the genre, and that I think that creativity is worth something.

Any chance you might be able to let us know who the artists are? I'd love to hire the creator of the 2nd game for a project.
That second game was really good honestly
honestly, even the first game is worth a little more than 10$ (not talking about copy-paste the same idea over and over, but as is , it's worth a little more, maybe like 15-20$)
for the second game, u can notice the nice art style, its simple but u can tell it's made by an expert artist that gave u what u paid for, even more, and u can notice the colors has been chosen wisely, also u can tell he could make the gameplay smoother but he didn't, for that price, it's worth at least $45
lastly, for the last game, he is a good creative programmer, but not an artist, the game mechanism is more complicated compared to the last 2 games,he is not an expert artist, even so, he is smart bcz he knows how to make a good simple design with no effort or advanced art skills
i think they used free art assets from the internet but yeah it actually had meaningful level generation and points so it’s good
The second one definitely worth more than 10 $ you are right
The second game is maybe too good for 10$ and one week of work.
Everything is way too polished, I mean he implemented :
A really great procedural generation for the map generator
Animation on basically everything which needs a lot of time to polish
Effing parallax scrolling for the background
A fully fledged UI system that seems to be working
I really doubt that the game was made in one week by one person from scratch, either he started with an already existing project and tweaking some things or he is a god of game jams.

I'm pleased to see the comment section calling you out for not mentioning the developers. That's not right.
You should credit the fiverr artists that made thsese game, they actually made playable stuff for 10 bucks, so the least you could do is to credit them
Thumbs up for the developers in your video, thumbs down for you not giving them the exposure they deserve.

3. You didn't credit any of the devs, and still haven't in the description or comments weeks later (but you did make sure to comment another link to your sponsor).
This video looked like a cheap, rushed cash-in on a popular Fiverr video trend. Sorry to be blunt, but that is the what I see here, and after 14 years on this site, I can tell when there was actual passion put in the content.
Actually true
I was looking forward to seeing the games in the thumbnail, although I knew it wouldn't be $1000

You don't understand how easy it is for a person to be tricked into thinking that their work isn't worthwhile, stupid or not. The 25$ one would be much more interesting if the blocks got stronger as time went on.
Then it would be pretty fun. Plus you can unlock new weapons the more you play. Or maybe new enemy and player skins. Also, new location designs.
That 25$ one has ALOT more potential than people think, it's a very unique play style.

tb that is below minimum wage pay. None of it was any less than 50.
How can you consider a working prototype no effort? Do you think games make themselves?
Just getting to a minimum viable product for an endless runner and having the game function as intended take hours. Even that first game probably took about 10 hours to make

Your thumbnail is misleading. No $1000 budget and no first person shooter (YT actually has an option to report the video for this)
You didn't even put the fiverr profiles of the developers in the description which is the LEAST that you could do after promoting basically slave labor paying them $10 bucks for a full game.
No wonder this video has such high amount of dislikes
So you're telling me you're not even showing who made the games, not even linking to them or shouting them out?
Second one was definitely the best, honestly with a few updates to design , ui and the background this could be a top tier mobile game, the background could change to a crystal cavern at a higher lvl and the enemies could change later lvls.
The third game would have been a lot more interesting with one change. The platforms are hexagons, much smaller, and with several more of them on screen at once. So that you're always in danger of falling into a hole, and not exactly sure where the path is going.
Furthermore, after reading several other comments, I agree about crediting the developers. However, everyone needs to realise that the prices were agreed upon before development, and the prices were integral to the experiment. If the developers were not OK with the amounts they were paid, then they wouldn't have accepted the job.

yeah these devs did you a huge favor. the amount of money they were paid for the work they did is pretty incredible. even the first game must have taken some time to get all the artwork done before even putting the game together. it might have not been diverse but it probably took some time to put that all together. I would definitely say 10/10 for all three
I'm a developer myself.
Nobody in their right mind would build any of these games from scratch for $25.
for 25$ MAYBE i can turn on my computer
They wouldn't build them from scratch, they would use an engine, such as the one advertised. They were all made in less than a week. People do game jams all of the time for free and create cool games in a short time for fun and the experience.
@@DanielDroegeShow I assumed using an engine, most likely GameMaker as mentioned. Building it with pure OpenGL/DirectX/Vulkan/whatever and not using any engine or frameworks would be a much taller order.
I still think there's a huge difference to doing a game jam, or working on a volunteer project, to working on a project for an extremely low fee - I mean, why work on a paid gig that isn't worth your time rather than working on your own project, or some community project that you believe in? There are certain responsibilities that come with accepting payment.
@@lionelpinkhard This is the way the fiverr marketplace (or any freelance site) works. You have to develop a profile of happy customers with glowing reviews or you can't charge the going rate. To do this, you have to intern for awhile doing dirt cheap projects and build up rapport in the community. The best thing he could have done for these people were hire them (at the rate they accepted) and review them highly.
@@DanielDroegeShow If that’s your reasoning, I can only imagine the devs must have the same reasoning.
Shame offering that kind of prices.
These 3 developers should group together to make a indie game lol
Alternative title: "I try to rip off indy game devs until someone agrees to work for a price below their value and I'm not even gonna credit them at all but make sure to check out my sponsor!"
That makes 0 sense. If someone agrees, then it is their value. Everyone finds their own value this way.
I feel bad for the 2nd dev, that deserves a minimum 100-150 dollars
But he accepted it tho…
