It strikes me as a lot of work to edit through and compile your old clips. Well done for persevering. It does help a lot with understanding the context of the tree 🌴
I definitely also appreciate Nigel’s hard work- he does already have playlists of all his trees he updates as he uploads the work he’s done on them, so he’s saved himself a lot of effort ahead of time :)
Thanks for all your beautiful, creative work Nigel. The explanations of your trains of thought and the planning for the future of your Projects are as entertaining as they are educating. I enjoy it with great excitement! Up and away into another year with you and your beautiful trees! Wish you all the best for Season 11!
Can’t wait to see how it turns out this spring!! I will be reporting my seedling this spring!! Maybe I will make a video!! Thanks for inspiring me Nigel!! Truly appreciate your videos!!
It is a good feeling to watch our little trees grow. This one grew nice for you. Your work on this tree is amazing with how you explain your steps. Excellent!
Nice little black pine. I haven’t had any luck with pines yet (killed a few mugos) but think 2024 will be my year. I overwinter my trees outdoors here in Connecticut so I’m thinking maybe I’ll look for a Japanese white pine and give it a go. Thanks, keep growing
You seem a real know it all, again you didn't watch the video or you can't understand what style I'm after. I find you very rude and a "real know it all" who probably knows very little?!!!
Thank you for your detailed updates on the history of the latest trees you have been working on. It must be a lot of work, but it is very helpful for us as viewers I think. Excellent work! I will be using some of your techniques on my own native pine, which I too am hoping to develop in a similar style. Nothing like driving the highways of Northern Ontario and seeing these graceful pines!
I love how you just keep doing things that work and prove the nay-sayers wrong! I have successfully taken off 1 air-layer from a JBP, and have 2 more on the go. It certainly has pushed the weaker lower branches to get stronger candles, and I may just get a nice tree in the end. Loving the progression on this one!
As always, I enjoyed watching you work on a tree. I've always wanted to work on a Japanese Black Pine, but I don't think they do well here in southeast Florida, USA. I would love to see your work on some trees that we use as a substitute for the Black Pine down here like the Podocarpus. Have to tell you that my husband and I trimmed our Carambola tree in the yard this morning. Used lots of the techniques that you explained while trimming the orchard at the Community Garden recently. So, your videos are extremely helpful not only for bonsai. Must be a bit colder there as you are wearing an extra shirt and a cap while working in the greenhouse. We have been going through a cold spell with temps down in the low 50s and 60s F. Believe it or not when you're used to warmer temps and humidity it does feel cold down here. Take care and Happy New Year.
Hahaha I've forgotten about the wired needle!!! I'd like to know how the roots in those pics, spanned that gap! It's almost like it grew, then the rock fell away, causing the gap.
Great job with this. It's nice to see how this tree has progressed and also very useful to hear your thinking in your decisions on where to go with this. Kinda surprised me to see you branch pruning in winter. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but I would have thought that this would be more of a springtime activity. Also, I assume you are sheltering the tree after the cut? It looks cold up there ! Thanks for your work on this!
Hi Nigel I have a Japanese black pine that’s not in good soil and needles are yellowing. Do you think I can do an emergency repot now and not before spring and get it into better soil? Can’t wait to see your tree grow great video 😊
This is exactly the type of video I needed, obvious.y takes a lot of editing, but so worth while for teaching, is a black pine the same as a scottish pine, I get a lot of seedlings from my gravel, in early years the pine needles., but I do not know how to identify them. I think the seedlings are from bird droppings. The pine leaves, needles look so out of proportion to the young tree,,, when do the needles start to look more in proportion ? From n east scotland.
These trees can be candle pruned and the second flush of needles will come in much smaller (usually). At this stage of development it's best just to let the tree grow and not worry about needle size!
I have a big white pine tree 55 years old and many seeds come down some of them germinate in winter while other seeds i eat !! Can i deal with the ones geeminating to have bonsai trees?!?!
I know you don’t typically wire trees, but tbh a Japanese black pine and wiring go like peanut butter and jelly. Consider trying it out to give major wiggles to the trunk while it is still rather thin and flexible.
Ill never understand why you take a tree with so many low branchs and just grow it ten miles high only to cut it down. Create save spots and theeeeen grow it out

I'm looking for to see next development of this tree .Thank you so much Bonsai zone.

I like the way you go back in time 😊 reminds me where I started ❤
I finally mannaged to catch you on another premiere. Enjoyed the updates :)
Wow! That tree grew a heck of a lot more than I expected in one year!
Can’t wait to see how it turns out this spring!! I will be reporting my seedling this spring!! Maybe I will make a video!! Thanks for inspiring me Nigel!! Truly appreciate your videos!!
I have a Japanese black pine around the same size. You gave me ideas to think about. Thanks Nigel!

Great video. The previous videos you added were very cool and helpful!
Love watching about the history of the trees, makes me realize how long I've been watching. Thank you and Happy New Year mate ❤

Dramatic cuts on this tree, Nigel. Thanks for the guidance and encouragment to be bold …
It hasn't done much since this work, I hope it pulls through!!

Those are best videos, when we can see the timeline of your trees, thanks you very much Nigel! ✌🏼
The Japanese Black Pine looks good so far. I hope the new shoot will develop in the right spots!
Just got my first black pine and Im following alon with your process...Maybe I'll get lucky...Thanks...
I hope my JBP takes a big step forward this year. Happy new year all!

Thanks Rebecca, there are not many videos on growing trees in more of a natural style!
Bonsai for the grandkids to continue with 💚💚💚
Thanks Nigel. thanks for the wisdom.
Good luck with the rubber cement.
Thanks 👍
My seedling just forming its 1st branches is almost half that high. Must be a happy one.
Hi Nigel,
Just discovered your channel, it looks like you are doing some great detailed work!
I'm looking forward to learning a lot!
Thanks and welcome to the Zone!!!
la pazienza del bonsaista👌
I love japanese black pines. I'll be interesting to see if it back-buds where you want it to.
I’ve got some black pine seeds and haven’t tried to germinate yet. I do have some wisteria potted up after soaking a couple days.

Good Strategie 👍 thx for showing us. 👌
I hope it works out well, time will tell!!
@@TheBonsaiZone i Hope it too !
well done

It's an amazing tree, it's called Chapel rock, a very famous tree!!
Fascinating
Bonzai zone 11! How cool!
Bel video, grazie

Could you have tried to stimulate roots on the cutting off the top of the tree?
I've never seen a plant push out itself from the pot in shuch a short time.....what do you think is the reason? fertilizing or you loose soil mix?
I think just strong growth, both up top and the roots! The tree is also not wired in the pot, so it can rise up more easily!
What type of fertilizer is best for JBP? Thank you.
Nigel, is it possible to root the cuttings?
Yes, if I planted the top, it would likely root and grow, under the right conditions!!
Will those cuttings root?
DO I WAIT FOR NEW BRANCHES BEFORE DECANDLING MY JBP SEEDLING?
I have a big white pine tree 55 years old and many seeds come down some of them germinate in winter while other seeds i eat !! Can i deal with the ones geeminating to have bonsai trees?!?!
I've never heard of eating White pine seeds! Yes, you can definitely create bonsai from the seedlings!
Say what!? Nigel Saunders wired a Bonsai!? Wow!, so funny
Foist after foist 😉
can u root that cut?
I've managed it in the past with JBP
👍👌👌
"BIG CUT coming!...Here I go ❗” ✂️ 😰
Foist

I want a straight trunk on this tree, similar to the reference photos, but if you did want a wiggly trunk, this would be the time to do it!!
good luck lol

Time will tell if I'm doing anything right!!!
This is an in joke right?
If you say so.
